Shownotes

As the year comes to a close, I always find myself in that strange, powerful space between Christmas and New Year’s — a true liminal moment. It’s not quite an ending, and not quite a beginning. And it’s not a time I believe is meant for pressure, resolutions, or forcing clarity.

In this final episode of 2025, I’m sharing temperament-aligned ways to close out the year with intention and care, rather than rushing straight into planning or goal-setting. We’ve spent the month talking about temperament and how it shows up in your business, and here I offer simple practices you can use to cross the threshold from one year into the next in a way that actually supports your nervous system.

I talk about honoring the transition between personal and professional space, creating small rituals of meaning and clarity, opening possibility through curiosity and enchantment, and even using strategic play to re-envision your business for the year ahead. I also share two end-of-year practices — one symbolic and one very practical — that help you release mental clutter and reclaim your attention.

This episode isn’t about reinventing yourself for the new year. It’s about orientation. It’s about letting your system settle, listening for direction, and crossing into 2026 with clarity, presence, and self-trust.

Transcripts

Speaker A:

This is the Be More Business podcast where wisdom and innovation merge to create a business that supports the life you want to live.

Speaker A:

Here's your host, entrepreneurial, wise woman and cyber sorceress, Kimberly Beer.

Speaker B:

and we close out the year of:

Speaker B:

p the page, so to speak, from:

Speaker B:

And then I also have a couple of other things that I'd like to offer everybody.

Speaker B:

So it's going to be a little bit of a potpourri episode.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

So all month long, we have been talking about the four different types of temperaments in business.

Speaker B:

The structured temperament, the spontaneous temperament, the meaning driven temperament, and the strategic temperament.

Speaker B:

And so for each of those temperament types, there's ways that speak your personal love language, so to speak, about how you might want to close out your year.

Speaker B:

Now, let me caveat this by saying if you're not that temperament type and one of these ways appeals to you, by all means, grab it and do it.

Speaker B:

There is no way to do this wrong.

Speaker B:

Okay?

Speaker B:

None.

Speaker B:

Zero.

Speaker B:

No way to do it wrong.

Speaker B:

For structured temperaments, the order in which you do things is incredibly important to your nervous system.

Speaker B:

So having a pace and a detail that designates the order of how things happen, even if you don't consciously recognize that really is a support and comfort to your nervous system.

Speaker B:

So what I have to offer you is a threshold cleansing.

Speaker B:

So we all go over a threshold when we go from being our personal selves into becoming our professional selves.

Speaker B:

That threshold may be the door to your home office.

Speaker B:

It could be the door to your retail location, it could be the door to your barn, it could be the door to your vehicle that you work out of.

Speaker B:

Regardless, we all have that threshold that we cross.

Speaker B:

And what I want to offer you is the concept of cleansing that threshold.

Speaker B:

Now, cleansing in two different ways.

Speaker B:

One, take a moment to recognize that threshold consciously as A place that you go from being the personal you to being the perfection, professional you, and take a moment to regard it.

Speaker B:

And does it need some dusting?

Speaker B:

Does it need some cleansing?

Speaker B:

Does it need some straightening up?

Speaker B:

Many times our doors get neglected.

Speaker B:

We open them up and close them so many times we don't even recognize that maybe they're in need of a little bit of care.

Speaker B:

That may be a more of a spontaneous, meaning driven person problem than a structured person problem, But I'm going to list it here anyway.

Speaker B:

Then after you have the threshold clean, what we want to look at is brightening it.

Speaker B:

So another level of cleansing up, brightening it for when we move into that space.

Speaker B:

Now, this can be as simple as just spritzing some mist, maybe rosemary, citrus.

Speaker B:

Those are all really good things to bring up clarity, to bring up energy.

Speaker B:

You know, just take a little moment to put some scent out around the threshold.

Speaker B:

It can also mean maybe just completely rebranding your threshold.

Speaker B:

Maybe you need a new doormat.

Speaker B:

Maybe you need a wreath or a sign.

Speaker B:

Maybe you need a whole new door.

Speaker B:

Maybe you need a new paint job for that threshold.

Speaker B:

But something that indicates that you are now moving into this with freshness.

Speaker B:

And as you cross that threshold, you are moving into a space of clarity.

Speaker B:

Do you have a spontaneous temperament?

Speaker B:

The love language that your nervous system and your subconscious really love to key into is novelty and enchantment and choice.

Speaker B:

So we can create that by drawing an oracle card or grabbing a rune, or even just getting a book that is sitting next to you, opening it to a random page, and then kind of blindly pointing at a sentence in the book and then reading that sentence.

Speaker B:

Now, you can do this with kind of an intention, like, I want to close out the new year, draw the card, grab the rune, pick up the tarot card, get the book.

Speaker B:

Or you can do it just completely open.

Speaker B:

Like, what would the universe like to enchant me with?

Speaker B:

Or what wisdom can I gain today?

Speaker B:

The key here is that there's a lot of choice involved in this, how you interpret that, where you want to take it.

Speaker B:

And it is an enchantment.

Speaker B:

It is a little bit of mess magic that you can bring into your day to connect with your subconscious and with the messages that are all around us.

Speaker B:

Meaning driven temperaments really love to connect to the deeper meaning behind something.

Speaker B:

No wonder, huh?

Speaker B:

Meaning driven temperaments, right?

Speaker B:

So for us, one of the greatest things that we can do this time of year is spend some time in reflection and.

Speaker B:

And then also future pacing and future planning and a great way to do that is to just simply sit with a candle.

Speaker B:

I recommend some shade of a red candle or a honey gold candle and just simply light it and sit with it and contemplate the year that has gotten us to this point.

Speaker B:

And then also contemplate where you want to go in the new year and just simply watch the flame dance and be completely present with that candle.

Speaker B:

Now, big hint.

Speaker B:

I know for us, for meaning driven workers, we sometimes don't want to sit there for hours upon hours watching a candle burn all the way down.

Speaker B:

So find yourself a small candle to do this with or a tea light even would work for strategic visionary type temperaments.

Speaker B:

We're going to go into something that is a little bit further out there for you guys.

Speaker B:

I think some of the most wonderful things are that you see the world around you very strategically like a chessboard.

Speaker B:

And you want to make moves on that chessboard that position you for success.

Speaker B:

And we can take the same concept of a chessboard and move it into our business.

Speaker B:

The pieces on the chessboard.

Speaker B:

Now you don't need a real chessboard.

Speaker B:

Let me qualify that.

Speaker B:

We're just going to use the top of a desk or a table somewhere.

Speaker B:

But gather some things that represent the different parts of your business.

Speaker B:

Maybe something that represents your marketing, something that represents your accounting, something that represents your future events.

Speaker B:

Gather the different parts of your business.

Speaker B:

I'm hoping that makes sense to you in some way.

Speaker B:

Interpret it however you would like and then take those things.

Speaker B:

They can be crystals, they can be stones, they could be pieces of paper with the word written on them and just simply allow them to be on your table or desk in the structure that they are now.

Speaker B:

And now that you can see that, look and see, could you move them around somehow to shape things differently?

Speaker B:

Is there a word that you would like to strategically change from where it is now to where it is in the future?

Speaker B:

The goal here is to give your analytic mind a resource and an outlet to be able to create a better possible future for your business.

Speaker B:

So it's a, it's an interesting way to sit with your business and take a look at what could be down the road.

Speaker B:

Now I have two other things I want to offer you and they're up for everybody, right?

Speaker B:

It doesn't matter what temperament you are.

Speaker B:

One is a little bit woo woo and one is extremely practical with a woo woo twist.

Speaker B:

So let's start with the extremely practical with a woo woo twist one.

Speaker B:

And that is to sit with your inbox and do some unsubscribing as a Self Respect ritual Email is one of those places that I think as entrepreneurs we allow other people to claim our time and our bandwidth.

Speaker B:

And this particular ritual is really designed for you to reclaim that back to yourself and as an act of self respect to say, I get to choose what I give my attention to and I get to claim how I am using my energy.

Speaker B:

So just simply set a timer on your phone for 15 minutes, sit with your inbox and you want to search for some very specific terms.

Speaker B:

Things like newsletter and don't miss this and reminder and update.

Speaker B:

Those are all words that indicate that you're part of a newsletter or email subscription list.

Speaker B:

And some of those may be wonderful.

Speaker B:

I'm not saying just blanket unsubscribe from your email marketing news lists.

Speaker B:

I personally love a lot of the ones that I am involved in that I subscribe to and I also send them out as well.

Speaker B:

But it needs to be my choice and they need to be relevant to me moving forward.

Speaker B:

So as you go through the list in your 15 minutes, as you look at each one of those searches that you created, unsubscribe from the ones that no longer serve you or aren't relevant for you, or aren't where you're going in the future.

Speaker B:

And as you do it, simply say, I choose what gets my attention.

Speaker B:

Just sort of repeat that over and over again.

Speaker B:

And every fifth unsubscribe or so just simply say out loud to the room or in the world that I reclaim this bandwidth for myself.

Speaker B:

Because it does take a lot of our time to even just ignore those emails.

Speaker B:

Believe it or not, you add that time up over the course of a year and it adds up to be somewhat significant.

Speaker B:

And now you have the option to use that time differently.

Speaker B:

gs for you to do to close out:

Speaker B:

I remember back when I opened up my very first actual like storefront type business in the early 90s in Clinton, Missouri and the Clinton of Chamber of Commerce came over and gave me in my ribbon cutting ceremony, gave me a framed dollar bill like this was your first dollar you could make for your business, right?

Speaker B:

They basically gave me an offering for my future business.

Speaker B:

Now as I sit here and I help a lot of entrepreneurs cross this threshold from being just a person into an actual business owner, I don't see us doing that practice as much anymore.

Speaker B:

And part of it is, is that I'm out of the Chamber of Commerce business world.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

But and I don't even know if it's a practice that still happens, but it is.

Speaker B:

It's an interesting concept to think about bringing the future energy of your business together.

Speaker B:

And whether you're brand new in your business or you've had it for 30 years, it doesn't matter.

Speaker B:

Take a moment and make an offering to that future business.

Speaker B:

Maybe it is taking a dollar bill or heck, I think with inflation that would be up to a hundred dollars bill these days.

Speaker B:

But taking, taking money and maybe putting it in a frame and offering that to your business and hanging it somewhere where you can see it on a regular basis.

Speaker B:

Or maybe it's a trinket or a promise or something you write on a piece of paper and you burn and release into the universe, whatever that happens to be for you.

Speaker B:

Just simply considering our future business and saying I see you and I want to partner with you and here's my first offering for your success.

Speaker B:

ry episodes this year are for:

Speaker B:

So I will see you on the other side.

Thank you so much for hanging out with me today.
