The inner tension in the Nayaka world was between the role of a Komara and Nayankara. To be a Komara meant that the Nayaka was a part of an inner circle of service elite. And to be a Nayankara partner implied having access to and share of political power along with the Rayas.
There was this simmering tension between the paths of mobility and loyalty and this resonated deeply during the period in question.
