Our host, Wioleta, dives into the often-overlooked aspects of being single and how to fill your calendar with exciting plans that don't hinge on someone else. Instead of waiting for that special someone to come along, she encourages us to embrace our independence and find joy in personal milestones like solo trips, home renovations, or even learning a new skill. The episode is packed with examples, from planning a weekend getaway to picking apples at a fall festival, all aimed at igniting excitement in our lives right now. Let's choose to live fully in the present and create experiences that we can look forward to, whether it's hosting friends for a game night or simply enjoying a quiet morning with a good cup of coffee. So grab your favorite drink, maybe dance a little, and let’s get inspired to make plans that are all about us!

Takeaways:

  • Being single doesn't need to be a waiting game; we can create our own joy and excitement right now.
  • There are countless personal milestones we can look forward to, like solo trips or starting a new hobby.
  • Taking control of our finances can open doors to experiences we’re excited about, like vacations or new adventures.
  • It’s important to focus on goals that are independent of others; our happiness shouldn't hinge on someone else's plans.

Speaker A:

What's something you're looking forward to doing? Welcome. Or welcome back. I'm Wioleta, your host, and this is all about being single.

If you haven't already, please take a moment to just rate and review this podcast, wherever you're listening. I really, really appreciate A, you listening, and B, you're reviewing and rating it just so other people can see what it's about.

So let's get to today's topic.

I've definitely been in eras of my single life where I, as an adult, didn't have many things to look forward to, you know, just more adulting, basically, or maybe a trip that was, like, months away or like, you know, the elusive meeting my person and being in a relationship.

And, you know, I think you might be able to relate to this, especially with the, oh, I'm looking forward to, like, meeting somebody and, you know, getting a house with somebody or meeting somebody and getting a dog with them, meeting somebody and going on all these trips with them, meeting somebody and blah, blah, insert whatever, you know, it is that you want to do. And so I definitely understand the want to meet a person and then do a bunch of things. However, if we're single, we're single.

And I don't think it's fair to ourselves to just put our lives on hold for somebody else that may or may not come. And I'm not trying to be, like, grim. I mean, I'm hoping that it happens for you, I'm hoping that happens for me, and I have faith that it will.

But also, you know, life is unpredictable. This is a part of our lives that we just cannot control. But what we can control is ourselves, right?

So we can also, you know, maybe we can control some of our spending.

And again, I know the economy is super bad right now, so this is maybe not the best example, but it is an example, you know, but we can maybe control putting some money away for a vacation that we can be excited about, or maybe putting some money away for a new hobby that you want to try out and maybe you need the gear for it, whatever the case might be.

So today's episode, I just want to give you some things and some examples of things maybe that you think maybe you didn't think about, that you could quote, unquote, wait, you know, to do or, you know, just be excited about doing so.

So, you know, there's our personal milestones, so maybe your next birthday celebration or maybe finally taking a solo trip or going on yet another solo trip, maybe decorating or renovating your space or paying off Some debt again, if you're able to.

Or maybe starting a savings account or reaching a savings goal or starting a business or launching a podcast or a YouTube channel or learning a new skill or getting healthier or stronger, running a race, reading a certain number of books, maybe per month, per year, per week. Whatever the case might be for you, getting a promotion you know that you deserve and you've been promised.

Switching careers, adapting a pet, finally mastering a hobby or even just starting a new hobby. And you know there's also experiences.

So maybe going to a concert or going to a festival, some kind of a weekend getaway, a road trip, trying a new restaurant, taking a cooking class, visiting a national park, seeing the first snowfall. I love snow, Summer patios. Or maybe the opposite of that, you know, being outside in the summertime and going to a pool or going to the beach.

Fall festivals, holiday markets. I'm definitely a big fan of just going to farmers markets.

So farmers markets, camping, sporting events, comedy shows, museums, Broadway or just the local theater.

As far as friendships go, maybe some game nights, dinner parties, girls or guys, weekends or group vacations or coffee dates or making new friends even, or joining clubs, doing more meetup activities, volunteering together, celebrating friends, achievements. As far as family goes, if you know you are close or have family around, I know for some of you you might just not even have family around.

But seeing nieces and nephews grow up, family vacations, holiday traditions, parents, birthdays, siblings, birthdays, siblings visiting from out of town or you visiting siblings or your parents or family, whoever, family reunions, just creating new traditions.

As far as a home goes, buying that piece of furniture you've wanted or getting rid of one that you just really hate, planning a garden, finishing a DIY project, creating your dream office or upgrading your kitchen, even just, you know, painting your kitchen cabinets. That's what I did with my kitchen.

Hosting friends, movie nights at home, finally organizing your house, maybe getting rid of some clothes and donating them and then some seasonal joys. And I'm not going to talk about spring, but I'm going to talk about fall since that's coming up.

So pumpkin patches, apple picking, maybe Christmas lights, Halloween decorations, the fourth of July fireworks. Well, those just happened. The first bonfire or maybe the last bonfire of summer, Opening day of, you know, I don't know, football.

I don't know when that starts. Your favorite seasonal coffee drink, self care. So a spa day, a massage. I try to schedule one massage a month.

I haven't been able to afford it the last few months, but whenever I Can I do it?

A weekend with no plans, Sleeping in, maybe even just like watching cartoon when you wake up Saturdays or Sundays, you know, just kind of acting more like you did when you were a kid, finishing a great TV series or just starting a really good show, starting a new book, a fresh haircut, buying yourself flowers, maybe even a digital detox. I'm definitely going to plan one soon.

And as far as adventure goes, maybe learning how to ski or taking dance lessons or skydiving or scuba diving or ziplining or hiking a mountain or seeing the northern lights or going on a cruise or traveling internationally and maybe giving back. So mentoring someone, organizing a charity event, donating to a cause you care about, helping a friend move, starting some kind of a community group.

And then there's also the little things, which are always the big things. I think Friday evenings after work and just relaxing and not having to go out with, you know, your boyfriend, girlfriend to wherever they want to go.

Your payday, a package arriving the weekend just in general, fresh sheets, your favorite meal, coffee on a quiet morning, maybe watching the sunset, maybe having a drink while watching the sunset, finishing a difficult project, finding a new favorite song, you know, maybe just laughing until your stomach hurts with whoever makes you laugh.

And as far as, like, dreams go, maybe writing a book, maybe learning another language, living abroad for a while if you're able to, starting a side hustle, becoming financially independent, building a life that you're proud of. You being the keyword there. Reinventing yourself. I think being single, this is such a good time for reinventing yourself.

Maybe we'll do a whole separate episode on that, actually meeting people who become lifelong friends and maybe discovering a passion you didn't know you had. And just in general, discovering yourself. I think this is the best time to truly discover who you are and create who you are.

And I think that some of these things are already waiting to happen and sometimes we might have to schedule them and make them happen ourselves. So your note to self today is what's something you can come up with to be excited about and work towards in the near future?

Maybe something you've been wanting to try out, like creating a YouTube channel, but you know, are maybe too afraid to even try and do. And if you've listened before, I from most of my episodes, I do a little dance break.

So I believe in dancing daily and I dance at random times of the day. Just improves my mood, makes me feel better, makes me get stuff done, honestly sometimes.

So I'm going to go ahead and do a little dance break and when I come back, I'll talk about my note to self and then I'll give you the glow up for the week. So let's dance. Okay, I'm back. So for me, I really want to do more solo dates again.

And I'm actually currently doing the artists work away with a friend.

We're on week three this week and it kind of quote unquote makes you do a weekly solo date, which is great because I miss just being out and about by myself instead of, you know, the things I have been doing lately because I've just been.

I haven't even been taking my walks as much because I've been so focused and so much of my energy has been going towards finishing the remodel of the house. So it's just been a lot. And I'm also doing a 5K, the Diplo Run Club one in Chicago in October with some friends.

So also looking forward to training for that and doing that.

And last but not least, I'm looking forward to finally being done with the remodel of my house so I can just live here and just enjoy the fruits of my very, very, very, very hard labor. So your glow up.

My favorite part of the episode every week, your glow up this week, is to actually work towards the thing that you can look forward to.

So this week, maybe schedule a solo date and on that date make a plan or take some steps towards doing the thing that you really want to do and just start looking forward to it. And I do truly believe we can't fully start looking forward to something until we, like, take the first step towards it.

And then the only stipulation I have for this is don't make this goal dependent on others. You know, at least try not to.

So, for example, don't say I'm looking forward to being in a relationship again because that's again, dependent on another person, not just on you. So make it something that you're looking forward to that you yourself, by yourself can make happen and can be proud of for doing.

And in the case you haven't yet, please take a moment to rate and or review this podcast. I truly appreciate you listening. As always, thanks for being here. This is your space, your era, your community.

Always remember that even if we're late, we're right on time.

Let's get ourselves closer to the lives we want to lead by getting a plan going and being excited for what's creating for what we're creating for ourselves. Have a good rest of your week. Again, thank you so, so much for listening and being a part of the show.

Please email me at all about being single gmail.com if you have any suggestions for I can improve the show. Anything that you want to hear more of, Anything you want to hear less of. Just anything. I really want to make this a space that's yours as well.

I will talk to you next Tuesday.
