Only Christ Sets Us Free
By Tammy Lacock
“But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.” (Romans 5:15)
In Romans 5:15, Paul explains to us that Adam was the one man who passed sin onto the world and by only one man, Jesus Christ, we are set free from that sin. But the free gift of God is not like the trespass. If many died by one man’s trespass, much more abundantly did God’s Grace and the gift that comes by the Grace of one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to benefit many.
So how does that work?
God, at the Cross, took the liberty in the death and resurrection of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, of placing His Son in every believing sinner. By God’s amazing Grace, when Christ died, our sins died with Him. When Christ rose to a new life, we rose to a new life with Him. Christ became our new life. This is what Jesus meant when He said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10 KJV).
Throughout Paul’s epistles to the churches, he speaks of this mystery, Christ IN every believer. This mystery he received only by the revelation of Jesus Christ. In fact, no man before him had this mystery revealed. And every man after, needs to have this revelation. Every sinner that believes in Christ as their Savior receives this great mystery, the free gift of Christ in us, our salvation. He is our Eternal Life.
As believers in Christ, we are saved and on our way to our Father’s house in heaven.
But do we know Christ lives in us now? How will we live our lives now knowing this Truth?
Christ said, “I am the Way, The Truth, and The Life” (John 14:6 KJV). He is the the Way to God, the Father. He is the Truth in the world. And He is the Eternal Life within each of us who believes. “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32 KJV).
