What would you achieve in your life if he followed through
Speaker:more often on your intentions?
Speaker:What difference would it make?
Speaker:If you were more consistent in completing what you started.
Speaker:Would you like to try out three simple techniques that can help you
Speaker:to follow through to completion?
Speaker:Get more done.
Speaker:And be more true to your word, especially to yourself.
Speaker:That's all coming up today.
Speaker:I'm Heather masters and this is the choosing happy podcast.
Speaker:Hello and welcome to the choosing happy podcast.
Speaker:I chose to explore, choosing to follow through because it's one
Speaker:of my personal biggest challenges.
Speaker:There are a number of reasons that we don't follow through.
Speaker:I think often we can be quite harsh with ourselves quite critical and judgmental
Speaker:when we don't complete something.
Speaker:When often there's an underlying.
Speaker:Subconscious unconscious reason we don't follow through.
Speaker:Why we self-sabotage and we don't complete on things that we promise ourselves.
Speaker:We do.
Speaker:I know for me, if I make a promise to someone else.
Speaker:I will do it.
Speaker:I will follow through I'll commit.
Speaker:I'll make the effort.
Speaker:I'll get up at five o'clock in the morning.
Speaker:If I have to, to make sure that I get what I said, I do.
Speaker:Done.
Speaker:If I make the same promise to myself.
Speaker:That's not always guaranteed.
Speaker:I can make commitments and intentions and work that I find it really
Speaker:challenging to follow through.
Speaker:There's something about a self-sabotage that I put myself into situations
Speaker:where I'm very likely to fail.
Speaker:In this episode, I wants to explore three ways that you can avoid.
Speaker:Not following through that.
Speaker:You can avoid self-sabotage that you can avoid.
Speaker:Being inconsistent on your commitments.
Speaker:The first one is really simple and yet quite powerful.
Speaker:And that's to sync through before you commit.
Speaker:What you're actually committing to.
Speaker:Plan it out in your head, just visualize it.
Speaker:An idea.
Speaker:Of the.
Speaker:Enormity or even if it's small.
Speaker:Get the idea of what you're committing to.
Speaker:Are you going to go into overwhelm?
Speaker:Is it something that you've never done before?
Speaker:Will you have the resources to do it?
Speaker:Do you have the time.
Speaker:In your day, if you're a mother who's working and has kids.
Speaker:But you commit to helping someone else.
Speaker:Do you really have that time available?
Speaker:What's the impact it's going to have on those around you and on
Speaker:the work that you're already doing?
Speaker:Do you have the money to carry it through?
Speaker:What's the payoff.
Speaker:What's the payoff.
Speaker:That's going to keep you going.
Speaker:And you're going to really enjoy it.
Speaker:Is it something that you really want to do?
Speaker:What's the benefit.
Speaker:Is it going to generate income?
Speaker:If you're an entrepreneur, are you attracting customers?
Speaker:Um, Y.
Speaker:Identifying your why?
Speaker:What's the motivation?
Speaker:What's the real reason.
Speaker:That this is important to you.
Speaker:Are you going to get out of bed every morning to do this for you?
Speaker:For whoever you've committed to on a scale of one to 10.
Speaker:In terms of your commitment.
Speaker:If you really honest with yourself, How far up the scale are you when 10
Speaker:is absolutely certain and committed and definitely follow through.
Speaker:Once you've.
Speaker:Started you've committed.
Speaker:And you've made a start on your projects.
Speaker:And you find yourself struggling and resisting.
Speaker:Take the time to check in with yourself, step back and just ask
Speaker:yourself, what's stopping you.
Speaker:And then go deeper.
Speaker:Ask yourself and.
Speaker:So I know for myself, if I asked myself, what's stopping me.
Speaker:Quite often I can come up with some real.
Speaker:Great excuses, but the surface level excuses.
Speaker:For instance.
Speaker:If I struggle to do a podcast, I can blame it on the extra hours
Speaker:I'm spending with technical issues.
Speaker:And that might actually be genuine.
Speaker:And if I'm really committed.
Speaker:And I'm really passionate about subject.
Speaker:The technical issues really won't stop me.
Speaker:So what's the root of what's stopping you.
Speaker:And be kind to yourself when you're asking this.
Speaker:But also be tough.
Speaker:Really get to the root, really understand.
Speaker:It's okay to resist.
Speaker:As long as you are aware.
Speaker:Of what you're choosing and why.
Speaker:Cause when you're consciously aware of what it is that stops you, then
Speaker:you can choose something different.
Speaker:You take back your power.
Speaker:And one of the first places to go to is.
Speaker:That Y.
Speaker:Write down that why?
Speaker:Right at the beginning.
Speaker:And remember why you started.
Speaker:And it's okay.
Speaker:Once you're conscious of what's stopping you.
Speaker:And you've had a look at the why and how important things
Speaker:are and you've reassessed.
Speaker:It's okay.
Speaker:To decide not to continue.
Speaker:To let people know that there is a deep reason why you can't continue.
Speaker:But do face the real reason.
Speaker:And decide from full responsibility.
Speaker:Observe yourself.
Speaker:Learn.
Speaker:And then decide.
Speaker:The third step.
Speaker:It's just too.
Speaker:Visualize yourself completing it.
Speaker:Having.
Speaker:100% completed.
Speaker:The task.
Speaker:And then to decide what's the first small step.
Speaker:That you can take to move forward.
Speaker:To take that one step closer.
Speaker:Toward completing.
Speaker:Even if the step isn't the one you think you should take.
Speaker:Do something along your path to get you back into momentum.
Speaker:Just take one small step and then the next, and then the next and
Speaker:see how many steps you can take.
Speaker:To move you forward today.
Speaker:And then commit to the steps you're going to take tomorrow.
Speaker:And when you're ready and you feel up to it.
Speaker:Then choose to do the should step.
Speaker:The step you're resisting.
Speaker:And when we're talking about momentum and moving forward, actually moving your body.
Speaker:Movement in your body encourages movements everywhere else that generates
Speaker:energy and propels you forward.
Speaker:In your head in your body.
Speaker:In your energy field.
Speaker:So take the time to move.
Speaker:And there's a bonus, create a poster or a sticker.
Speaker:Put it on your wall, right on post-it notes.
Speaker:I put it on the screen of your phone.
Speaker:Say out loud.
Speaker:Every time you sit down to work.
Speaker:I follow through with my commitments.
Speaker:Especially when they are to myself.
Speaker:The rest of this week.
Speaker:I'm focusing on a happy Christmas countdown and I hundred days to happy.
Speaker:I want to thank you for listening today.
Speaker:Thank you for your attention.
Speaker:If you have any questions, please do drop me a line.

Speaker:Every little helps me to commit and follow through.
