New charges will be filed on Thursday in the US criminal case against ousted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, the Manhattan US Attorney's Office said on Thursday. Details of the new charges were not immediately available.

A US official told Reuters on Wednesday that Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were expected to face new charges over the alleged torture of Americans held in Venezuela.

After 130 days of relative calm, the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season birthed its first hurricane, and it’s headed for the Gulf Coast. Hurricane Isaias officially evolved from a tropical storm late Wednesday, according to the National Hurricane Center, setting a new record for the quietest start to a hurricane season since the satellite era began 60 years ago.
