Hi, we're Cinthia Varkevisser and Michelle Walters, co-hosts of Mind Power Meets Mystic. Our weekly show is here to expand your mind to what's possible, to uplift your spirits, to move forward with confidence and joy, and to create a space for your collaboration with the invisible.
Welcome to Mind Power Meets Mystic. Welcome to Episode 111—an important episode in the history of Mind Power Meets Mystic. This is Michelle Walters. I am our show’s “Mind Power.” I'm a Clinical Hypnotherapist, and I am joined by my partner on the show, our co-host. She is Cinthia Varkevisser. She is our show's Mystic and Intuitive Reader.
So this is the week of the election in the United States, and there's a lot of apprehension—probably putting it mildly—about what's going to happen with the election this year. This year’s election is the presidential election between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, and Cinthia and I are both concerned about it, concerned about how it will go, concerned about who wins, and concerned about how people take the news. We thought it would be helpful for our listeners to put together a few themes to help with the election and even the aftermath, around three thoughts: positivity, peace, and prayer.
Cinthia, do you want to add anything before we get started?
Yeah, I want to be really honest. And yes, we're doing this for our listeners. We're also doing it for ourselves. The thing that was very clear to us when you brought it up as a topic, Michelle, is that it's time to really talk about what's near and dear to our heart. And yes, healing others is important. This is healing on a bigger scale and really reaching out and practicing what we preach. So it’s the “walking the talk,” and I love that you and I are ready to walk our talk on this Episode 111.
Exactly, walk our talk. Episode 111—here we go.
So, our first point is positivity. Positivity has been shown to be a wonderful shield to all kinds of feeling uncertain, afraid, or in a bad place. So, we each thought of a great super-tip for how to stay positive during this time. My positivity tip is that I'm going to spend time in the next few weeks being especially grateful for nature. Whatever happens with the election, the sun will rise, the moon will set, and the seasons will change. I love nature, and I'm sure many of our listeners find nature to be beautiful and transformative as well. So, if you’re experiencing stress, concern, or apprehension about the election, don't think about that. Spend a moment noticing a pretty rock or the turning leaves on a tree. Be grateful for nature. What do you have, Cinthia?
When we’re talking about positivity, we’re talking about health. We're not talking about rose-colored glasses. It’s about really digging deep and finding this space to get out of anxiety and despair no matter who gets elected. My positivity tip is always about connection. I think about the three things I have in common with the person in front of me. When I do that, I’m not looking at them as “the other.” I can think from local to global, or at least coast to coast.
I’ll be honest; I’m voting for Kamala Harris. I know so many are too—hometown girl, exactly—and she resonates with me. I also have family members who are not voting for her. So, even if I think about Trump, I can still find three things we have in common. First, we’re both human. Second, he has family, and so do I. We both value and protect our families. And third, he has a belief system, and so do I. While I may not agree with it, I respect that he has one. Once I can connect with people in this way, it’s not about fear of “you against me.” It’s about finding common ground.
I love it. So, positivity was number one.
The second thing we wanted to talk about was peace. What can we do to help maintain the peace? My approach to peace is not getting in the fight. I've read studies showing that being courteous—remembering to say “please” and “thank you”—is essential in setting a tone of peace, which will be crucial in America over the coming weeks and potentially months.
I agree, and I love that you’re talking about politeness. Peace is not passive; peace requires action, but it doesn’t have to be aggressive. We can promote kindness. In martial arts, it’s not about fighting; it’s about avoiding the fight. Promote kindness by opening doors, sharing appreciation, and helping where you can. If you can’t be of service, maybe you can be a resource. And if you can’t be either, take care of yourself so you can be ready to help someone else.
I love it. I want to remind all of our listeners that they’re listening to Mind Power Meets Mystic with me, Michelle Walters, and Cinthia Varkevisser, my podcast pal.
Our last topic for this special Episode 111 is prayer. Now, Cinthia and I are not big on traditional prayer, but we are big on setting intentions. This time of year, around All Saints Day, All Souls Day, and Día de los Muertos, is a nice time to build or revive a home altar. On my altar, I’ll place a circle of stones representing unity, symbolizing people coming together with arms around each other.
Well, I have a partner, Dee, who has Mexican heritage, so we’ll have an ofrenda. I want to keep it up longer so that our ancestors can be with us as we walk through this time. Also, I set an intention before every reading or coaching session, a practice I learned from my Swami Mommy, Connie. It goes, “I ask for the divine light of love and compassion. I ask for the Divine Light of perfect health and protection. I ask for this protection to fill and surround me. I ask for the highest amount of service for those I love and those before me. I also ask for the highest reading for myself, so that I may be my best self when I offer myself to the other person. I do this for the highest and best good.”
Thank you for sharing that, Cinthia. So, as we move through this time of transition, remember positivity, peace, and prayer. Show compassion, be kind, and take care of yourself and those around you.
