The Nebraska medical cannabis commissioners' decided to maintain their current regulations despite public criticism. The commission approved only two growing licenses out of the four allowed statewide, with each grower planning to cultivate up to 1,250 cannabis plants per harvest. The commission stated that this cautious start will help them monitor supply and ensure compliance before expanding the program. Two other applicants appealed their rejections, and the commissioners will revisit those cases next month. The commission also reaffirmed that smoking or vaping cannabis will remain prohibited under Nebraska's medical program, focusing on tightly controlled, medical-use products. Advocates are hopeful that the commission will take steps to make the program more accessible for patients at their next meeting.

Today' science review articles are about cannabis and migraine headaches.

Teh first article I am gonig to review is Cannabinoids rescue migraine symptoms caused by central CGRP administration in mice by Zorrilla and others. This study investigated the therapeutic potential of a combined dose of CBD and THC at a 100:1 ratio in mitigating centrally induced migraine symptoms in a mouse model. Pretreatment with 100:1 CBD:THC rescued light aversion, increased resting time in darkness, decreased transitions between light and dark zones, and partially rescued the decreased rearing behavior and spontaneous pain induced headache. The 100:1 ratio of CBD to THC was administered 60 minutes prior to starting all the assays. The findings suggest that a combination of CBD and THC can alleviate light aversion and pain symptoms induced by a centrally-acting migraine trigger, which could have potential therapeutic implications for migraine treatment. The study was conducted in a mouse model, and the findings may not directly translate to human migraine patients.

Next up: Should CBD be used for migraine? This article provides an update on the clinical evidence for the use of CBD in the prevention and treatment of migraine headaches. Migraine is a prevalent and burdensome condition, and CBD may be a potentially effective strategy to relieve it. The article reviews existing studies on the use of CBD for migraine. Clinicians should be aware of the potential use of CBD as an adjunct or alternative to primary treatment modalities for migraine. The article does not provide detailed information on the methods used in the studies reviewed.

Finally: Cannabinoids in headache: helpful or harmful? This study critically evaluates the current evidence on the use of cannabinoids in the treatment of headache disorders, weighing their potential benefits and risks. While some studies suggest cannabinoids may provide analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, concerns remain regarding their potential for overuse headache, cognitive impairment, and psychological dependence. This is a critical review of the current evidence on the use of cannabinoids in headache treatment. The findings of this study have important implications for the clinical use of cannabinoids in the management of headache disorders, as healthcare providers must carefully consider the balance between the potential benefits and risks. The study does not provide detailed information on the specific methods used to conduct the review, which may limit the ability to assess the rigor and comprehensiveness of the analysis.
