Business Breakup Counselling | Session 1

What happens when the business you once loved starts feeling like a relationship you've outgrown?

The things that used to come naturally now feel like pulling teeth. Creating content feels exhausting. You're resisting the very activities that used to light you up. And you're wondering whether you've lost your motivation, hit a rough patch, or simply fallen out of love with your business.

Here's the thing: Maybe your business isn't broken. Maybe you've just outgrown the version of you who built it.

In this first session of Business Breakup Counselling, we're exploring the relationship between your personal identity and your business identity, why they sometimes become incompatible, and how to recognise when it's time to recommit, renegotiate, reinvent, or walk away.

We'll explore:

  • The difference between resistance caused by fear and resistance caused by outgrowing something.
  • Why your business identity doesn't automatically evolve as you do.
  • How changes in your industry, audience, or circumstances can create a disconnect.
  • Why falling out of love with your business doesn't necessarily mean you need to close it down.
  • How to start figuring out whether your business needs a little relationship counselling or a full-blown breakup.

Because you don't have to keep running a business that belongs to a version of yourself you've already left behind.

See you in session!

Bree Boucher:

welcome to the Business Breakup Counselor sessions.

Bree Boucher:

We are now in session.

Bree Boucher:

All right, are you in a business that you've outgrown?

Bree Boucher:

Things that are gonna be clear to you when you have outgrown your business

Bree Boucher:

is this level of resistance To actually keep doing the stuff that you used to do.

Bree Boucher:

Now, there is some discernment here.

Bree Boucher:

You need to remember that some things you're resisting because they're hard,

Bree Boucher:

you haven't done it before, or you're afraid for some reason to do it.

Bree Boucher:

This is not what I'm talking about.

Bree Boucher:

I'm talking about the things that were easy for you, the things that

Bree Boucher:

were, like, your bread and butter, the things that were, like, super

Bree Boucher:

chill for you to do, and now you're like I really don't enjoy this now.

Bree Boucher:

This feels like pulling teeth.

Bree Boucher:

This feels like scraping my nails down a chalkboard kind of vibes.

Bree Boucher:

Not loving it" And yet it's like a core piece of your business

Bree Boucher:

and how you have always shown up.

Bree Boucher:

And now it's like, well, what's different?

Bree Boucher:

Why do I feel like this today when I didn't feel like this two months ago?

Bree Boucher:

It's because you're slowly and surely becoming incompatible

Bree Boucher:

with your business identity.

Bree Boucher:

So you have your individual identity, your personality, you as a human, and

Bree Boucher:

then you have your business identity.

Bree Boucher:

And I want you to think of those two as having a relationship,

Bree Boucher:

much like a relationship you would have with anyone, with a lover,

Bree Boucher:

with a friend, with a parent.

Bree Boucher:

Like you've established rules, you know what's up, you know how to act

Bree Boucher:

and be within that relationship.

Bree Boucher:

But at some point You've met a different version of yourself

Bree Boucher:

that no longer fits with that past relationship version of you.

Bree Boucher:

So the business identity is no longer something that you

Bree Boucher:

wanna be in a relationship with

Bree Boucher:

Because you've changed?

Bree Boucher:

Maybe the climate that your business is in has changed.

Bree Boucher:

Sometimes it is you, sometimes it is the circumstances, like the

Bree Boucher:

business itself hasn't matured or hasn't evolved with the times.

Bree Boucher:

Or, let's say you're a web designer and you haven't evolved with the efficiencies

Bree Boucher:

that AI now brings to web design.

Bree Boucher:

So you've obviously got, like, all of this skill set and knowledge, but

Bree Boucher:

there's ways you can do things better and quicker now that the way that AI

Bree Boucher:

has, is transforming, the industry.

Bree Boucher:

And you're maybe super anti-AI, which fine, your choice, no dramas.

Bree Boucher:

Like I'm not gonna behold you to making that decision.

Bree Boucher:

But you need to realize that maybe it's not that you're gonna be ma- You…

Bree Boucher:

It's not that you're going to lose your job because of AI, you're gonna

Bree Boucher:

lose your job or your career because you haven't adapted to the culture and

Bree Boucher:

the circumstances that your business now fits in, which AI is part of.

Bree Boucher:

But people are able to design pretty decent websites now with prompting

Bree Boucher:

and vibe coding, and some will look the same, but there's a lot of people

Bree Boucher:

selling templates out there as well and websites have looked the same for

Bree Boucher:

a while now And so sometimes it's about the circumstances your business no longer

Bree Boucher:

fits, but a lot of the time, and so, like, your identity of your business

Bree Boucher:

no longer fits the culture and the community that your business resides in.

Bree Boucher:

And we often, we'll see people pivot their business because of

Bree Boucher:

that or close programs down and stuff because no one cares anymore.

Bree Boucher:

For example, I used to be a reels coach.

Bree Boucher:

I don't teach that anymore.

Bree Boucher:

Firstly, because that's not really my calling, but secondly people started

Bree Boucher:

to understand what they needed to do.

Bree Boucher:

It wasn't as technical anymore.

Bree Boucher:

People just got it over time.

Bree Boucher:

So either I had to shift into being more, like, content focused and less

Bree Boucher:

about teaching them how to actually do the thing technically, and I chose

Bree Boucher:

not to evolve that product and that offering and that, that kind of business

Bree Boucher:

niche So you give up and choose to let go of businesses for that reason.

Bree Boucher:

Or your identity has grown or outgrown the version of you that you

Bree Boucher:

were when you started the business.

Bree Boucher:

And so those two identities in relationship, that past version

Bree Boucher:

of you and your current business identity, they were a match.

Bree Boucher:

They were in love.

Bree Boucher:

They loved each other.

Bree Boucher:

Everything worked so well until it didn't.

Bree Boucher:

And the reason it stopped working was because you grew.

Bree Boucher:

You're a human who evolves and you're changing all the time.

Bree Boucher:

You're doing personal development work.

Bree Boucher:

You're doing professional development work.

Bree Boucher:

You're doing work on your shadows and your ego and all of that stuff, which evolves

Bree Boucher:

you as a human away from the version of you when you first started your business.

Bree Boucher:

But your business didn't evolve with you because it's not a human.

Bree Boucher:

It's like it's static.

Bree Boucher:

It's staying exactly the same until you make the choices to shift its identity.

Bree Boucher:

Until you have the conversation with your business to tell it where you want to go.

Bree Boucher:

and decide whether that is whether you're going together or whether you are

Bree Boucher:

Shifting and moving apart

Bree Boucher:

And that's something that I do, that I teach, and I, it help you explore

Bree Boucher:

inside the Starting Over Society over in Skool, where you can access the business

Bree Boucher:

breakup audit to understand what level you are at with your business, whether

Bree Boucher:

you're still in love, whether you need to renegotiate, have conversations

Bree Boucher:

with your business about how you wanna continue showing up, whether you need to

Bree Boucher:

reinvent your business to match the person and the identity that you have become.

Bree Boucher:

Or when you realize that you are no longer, willing to commit to this

Bree Boucher:

relationship with the business and you've decided already that it's over.

Bree Boucher:

So how do you navigate that?

Bree Boucher:

The audit will help you identify where you're at if you're not sure.

Bree Boucher:

We also have the business breakup plan, which helps you take those three

Bree Boucher:

areas where you wanna actually make change in your business to suit and

Bree Boucher:

match your identity now, and helps you map out the next 30 days on, like,

Bree Boucher:

how you're going to navigate that.

Bree Boucher:

And then lastly, if you know that you need to make the change but you're

Bree Boucher:

not quite sure how to navigate it and you're not quite sure am I selling IP?

Bree Boucher:

Am I quietly retiring things?

Bree Boucher:

Am I, doing all of that practical stuff whilst also navigating so much change

Bree Boucher:

internally that you haven't potentially fully explored or understood or unpacked?

Bree Boucher:

That's the sort of work we do inside the business breakover.

Bree Boucher:

So if any of that sounds of interest to you, I would love

Bree Boucher:

to talk to you about those.

Bree Boucher:

Drop into my DMs.

Bree Boucher:

Hit me up wherever you can find me.

Bree Boucher:

We can have a chat.

Bree Boucher:

But I'm gonna start doing live coaching on Instagram this month, where I'm going

Bree Boucher:

to coach you on where you're at with your business and act like your relationship

Bree Boucher:

counselor between you and your business and help you figure out where you're

Bree Boucher:

at and what you need to do next.

Bree Boucher:

Basically, the audit and the plan rolled into one so you can take some

Bree Boucher:

action and some steps going forward.

Bree Boucher:

So if you wanna be part of those live streams, jump onto

Bree Boucher:

my Instagram thebreeboucher, and we're going to do those…

Bree Boucher:

i'm probably gonna do them my morning time, so northern hemisphere

Bree Boucher:

sort of afternoon, evening.

Bree Boucher:

We might do some impromptu ones at different times because, I'm just

Bree Boucher:

playing and practicing and getting into the rhythm of this myself.

Bree Boucher:

But we're gonna have the initial moment where I just talk what what's going on

Bree Boucher:

with your business, and then you'll be able to put your hand up for coaching.

Bree Boucher:

I won't be able to coach everyone.

Bree Boucher:

I might only be able to coach one person, because we're only gonna

Bree Boucher:

be doing this for 30 minutes a day.

Bree Boucher:

And then after that, if you want more support, more coaching, you can come into

Bree Boucher:

the society and I can help you in there.

Bree Boucher:

Or of course deeper work inside the breakover.

Bree Boucher:

Okay, so hopefully I'll see you live in the first, or the next live stream,

Bree Boucher:

depending on when you're watching this, or listening to this I should say.

Bree Boucher:

And then, yeah, we can kind of explore where you're at with your business, we

Bree Boucher:

can explore how now it's time to step into the true identity of who you are

Bree Boucher:

and for your business to match so that everything feels fucking amazing to

Bree Boucher:

create content, to talk about your sales activities, like to talk about what you're

Bree Boucher:

wanting to sell, to have conversations with clients, with people in the DMs.

Bree Boucher:

All of that will feel so much better and easier when you're in alignment with the

Bree Boucher:

way that you want your business to be.

Bree Boucher:

So let's jump into that next live stream, and I will see you

Bree Boucher:

there, and let's get you coached.
