Today, I want to talk about why you won't see any ads or affiliate links on my Bible 805 sites. It's pretty simple: I think it's very hard to be honest about resources when you are paid to discuss them and I believe in keeping things straightforward and honest. I want you to find resources without the distraction of flashy ads or paid recommendations. I’ve had my fair share of disappointments with affiliate marketing, and I just can't go down that road. Instead, I focus on sharing what I genuinely find useful, without any outside influence. In addition to this podcast on www.Bible805.com at this link, you'll find a much more detailed explanation if you want to take the time to read it.

Welcome to the Ministry Miscellany Podcast A collection of tools, strategy and challenges for Bible teachers from me, Yvonne Pran, someone who's been teaching the Bible ever since As a third grader I started to teach the kindergartners at my church about Jesus.
Speaker A:I've never quit doing that and along the way I've picked up some practices, strategies and resources that might be useful to you.
Speaker A:Our topic for today is hi, I'd like to briefly talk for a few minutes about why you will not find any advertising or affiliate marketing links on any of the sites associated with Bible 805.
Speaker A:I think this is really important for me to clarify.
Speaker A:Let me just read you my overall statement.
Speaker A:Now I'm going to go over some things.
Speaker A:I hope I won't take too much time.
Speaker A:There is a longer article that I will link this podcast to, but basically here is the stand of the Bible 805 Ministry and it says Bible 805 and all associated ministries, past and present does not take any paid advertising, nor do I swap advertising, take free products for review, or take part in any affiliate programs.
Speaker A:The only items advertised and sold on Bible 805 sites are those that I produce and at present the only ones that I sell are books by me.
Speaker A:Yvonne Pryn Any recommendations given or lists of links to useful resources are totally at my discretion based on what I found personally useful and think might be useful to you.
Speaker A:Now let me talk just a little bit more about this because I know this is very different than most of the other sites that you will access now too.
Speaker A:I want to say up front, you know, it's not any moral thing that I'm, you know, against different kinds of advertising and stuff like that, but I just really feel from my personal experience that this is not something that I believe the Lord has led me to do.
Speaker A:Other ministries run their ministry is is completely, of course, up to them.
Speaker A:But first of all I want to tell you why I don't take advertising.
Speaker A:Now some companies may be strong enough to take it and not have that influence them.
Speaker A:I'm not like that.
Speaker A:If I took money for something or, you know, took free software or whatever, it would be really hard for me to be objective and I don't like it when a and companies can that they are.
Speaker A:But I had an experience a number of years ago when I was writing for a large Christian publication that I had been asked to review a category of materials.
Speaker A:I did that.
Speaker A:I turned in my findings and then I was asked later to change some of them because they'd Gotten a really big ad for something that was really upsetting to me and I told them I wouldn't do it and that was the end of my writing for them.
Speaker A:But I really sort of drew a line in the sand then and said, you know, I just don't think I want to do that then.
Speaker A:On affiliate marketing, what this is is where a site will say, well if you recommend what we do and people sign up and pay a certain amount of money that we will give you a cut of that.
Speaker A:Well, I can't tell you how prevalent that is.
Speaker A:And there's even many Christian sites and things on how to make money at stay at home as a Christian and do all this affiliate marketing.
Speaker A:Well, I've again I've seen that so terribly abused and I feel like I've been a victim of it where something was recommended and recommended and I thought, oh, I've just got to try that.
Speaker A:And so I paid money that I oftentimes didn't have, you know, being involved in ministry and you know, it was a huge disappointment.
Speaker A:And then I found out later, oh, they're part of an affiliate marketing system that they were paid to do these recommendations.
Speaker A:And when they talk about when you come across something that says, oh, this is just a little amount.
Speaker A:No, it's not just a little amount.
Speaker A:A lot of times it can be 30 to 40% of the cost of whatever you're paying for.
Speaker A:It can run between 5 to $50 or more per recommendation.
Speaker A:Well, yeah, you know, a lot of people make a lot of money off of that but I don't feel like it's really honest.
Speaker A:And so the time that it takes also too, I just ha going to so many even Christian sites and it's just a quagmire of flashing advertisements and visual junk and all this kind of stuff.
Speaker A:When you come to any of the sites associated with Bible 805, I want you to be calm.
Speaker A:I want you to calm down, take a deep breath, read the material, follow the links if they're there, download what you want to use, but no jumping things inside things and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker A:I promise not to contribute to eye pollution.
Speaker A:Well, just in closing, that's what I don't do.
Speaker A:I don't take affiliate marketing.
Speaker A:I don't recommend stuff that I'm paid to recommend.
Speaker A:I don't do advertising.
Speaker A:How does this site make money?
Speaker A:Well, it doesn't do a whole lot right now, but I'm hopeful.
Speaker A:Actually it's a donation based site.
Speaker A:I do offer most everything again except for my books for free and you can donate to the site.
Speaker A:There's a support link on the site.
Speaker A:I use a company called Ko Fi.
Speaker A:Now.
Speaker A:That's a recommendation that I will give.
Speaker A:I did a lot of research.
Speaker A:It's similar to Patreon.
Speaker A:A lot of people are familiar with that, where people can support ministries or resources that they really like.
Speaker A:But Patreon is kind of expensive and costs a lot.
Speaker A:They take a big chunk and it's rather complicated.
Speaker A:Ko Fi is highly recommended, highly reputable, but they only take a very small amount.
Speaker A:So that's what I do.
Speaker A:You can go onto my site and click the support tab if you're interested.
Speaker A:Again, we all need to do in ministry what we feel the Lord wants us to do.
Speaker A:But I feel that right now my calling is to provide my resources for free.
Speaker A:And I just the Lord's taken good care of me over the years.
Speaker A:I don't know how he's done it, but he has and I just trust him to continue to do that.
Speaker A:And may the Lord bless you and give you strength in however you support whatever your calling is for the Kingdom of God.
Speaker A:I trust you found the content in this episode of Ministry Miscellaney useful.
Speaker A:For links to any resources mentioned and lots of free material to help you know, trust, apply and teach the Bible, go to www.bible805.com Let me close now with a reminder from the book of Daniel 12:3 where it says, those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness like the stars, forever and ever.
Speaker A:That's you, someone who leads many to righteousness.
Speaker A:And in doing that, may you be ever growing in your reliance on the power of the Holy Spirit.
Speaker A:Spirit in the deepening of your friendship with Jesus, and in your trust in the goodness of God the Father, never forgetting in all the hard work you do that you have a glorious heritage where you will shine like the stars forever and ever.
Speaker A:Amen.
