Marvellous day ahead! plus a quick re-cap on understanding the temperature predictions across the 3 NSW resorts.

Well these are my favorite reports to do, because it’s very cold and it’s been snowing!

Before i get carried away, i just wanted to say a quick thanks / shout out to South East Printing in Cooma. They printed some Daily Snow postcards for me recently that turned out great. Pete and Dale were also helpful, so thank you.

Back to the snow, and it has not been above zero degrees at Thredbo top station for a couple of days now, and there’s been about 4cm snow between lunchtime and late evening yesterday. Over at Perisher, it’s been similarly cold - currently sitting at -8.5 degrees! There’s also been a few cm of snow through to last night, with it being a little wet down the bottom for a moment around lunchtime yesterday. Things are generally looking good right now, considering we’re in mid-September.

It’s currently overcast down in the lower parts of the resorts, but the prediction today is for a gentle, partly cloudy day - and it’s certainly looking like that around the higher areas right now. The winds should only get up to a moderate breeze at worst, and at Charlotte pass we’re looking at a top of 3 degrees, Perisher Valley also 3, and Thredbo top station 1 degree.

I explained a week or two ago how these temps work by the way - remember that the Thredbo prediction is at the top of the resort (which is max 1 degree today) and the Perisher temp is down the bottom of the resort (which is 3 degrees today) - so for Thredbo it’s usually a best-case temp for snow conditions, worst case temp for our comfort at the resort. In perisher, it’s kinda the opposite - a worst case temp for snow conditions and best case temp for how chill we will feel.

Added to this, Charlotte pass’s predictions are a general estimation, as the Bureau of Meteorology doesn't have a weather station there, but FYI it’s 8 km from Perisher and at cza similar altitude.

Anyway… whilst there is new snow, it hasn’t snowed since last evening, so the roads should be OK, just watch out for icy sections as it’s cooooold up there! Snow chains aren’t currently required, but keep them handy.
