Speaker:

Hello and welcome to the Crochet Business

Speaker:

School podcast, where you can use your crochet

Speaker:

to build a business that will give you the lifestyle

Speaker:

you've been dreaming of.

Speaker:

Do you have to show your face to use video?

Speaker:

So video video is a big thing right now.

Speaker:

All the social media platforms are prioritising

Speaker:

video content over anything else.

Speaker:

If you type in anything into the Google search

Speaker:

box, one of the first set of results that comes up

Speaker:

are video results.

Speaker:

Google owns YouTube, so it's prioritising

Speaker:

YouTube videos.

Speaker:

Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, they're all

Speaker:

prioritising video content overwritten posts.

Speaker:

It's the thing.

Speaker:

It's what everyone's doing and taking advantage

Speaker:

of.

Speaker:

I mean, look at TikTok.

Speaker:

Look how that platform has exploded just on

Speaker:

short videos.

Speaker:

So how can you take advantage of this trend for

Speaker:

video content being pushed forward without

Speaker:

having your face on video?

Speaker:

I get it.

Speaker:

It's anxiety inducing having to put your face on

Speaker:

video.

Speaker:

Do I look okay?

Speaker:

Is my makeup right?

Speaker:

Is the lighting right?

Speaker:

Do I look like I have a double chin?

Speaker:

I find it utterly anxietyinducing and I will do

Speaker:

anything to avoid putting my face on a video.

Speaker:

I mean, we look at Instagram and look at all

Speaker:

those perfect pictures.

Speaker:

The Kardashians are the worst for that.

Speaker:

But what we forget is that they are heavily

Speaker:

filtered.

Speaker:

So when we come on ourselves with no philtres,

Speaker:

no professional makeup artist, it does make us

Speaker:

feel inferior and it can be so anxietyinducing and

Speaker:

you just end up not wanting to do it.

Speaker:

So what else can we do so we can get our

Speaker:

content and our message out there without

Speaker:

putting ourselves on the camera?

Speaker:

Fortunately, there are other options.

Speaker:

So the first is you can talk.

Speaker:

So I could take this podcast and turn it into a

Speaker:

video and all it would have on there is some

Speaker:

pretty wave pattern.

Speaker:

There are apps that can do that for free, so you

Speaker:

can just have your voice on there.

Speaker:

Another one is to make a slideshow so you could

Speaker:

take photos of your current products.

Speaker:

You could take photos of you creating

Speaker:

something.

Speaker:

The different stages load each picture into Canva

Speaker:

and then download it as a video.

Speaker:

And then it will just show each photo in turn as a

Speaker:

video.

Speaker:

Canva will also let you add text to each photo.

Speaker:

So you can add a little bit of detail of what you're

Speaker:

doing in each picture.

Speaker:

Or you could even add a voiceover.

Speaker:

They're absolutely let you do that as well.

Speaker:

And that's a great way of creating video content

Speaker:

without being on camera at all.

Speaker:

You could do a PowerPoint presentation and use

Speaker:

that as a video.

Speaker:

You don't have to have your voice on there

Speaker:

either.

Speaker:

You can just do it as words on a picture.

Speaker:

Another way is to just show your hands.

Speaker:

These are types of videos I make all the time, is

Speaker:

that I just show my hands doing crochet.

Speaker:

Now that might sound boring to us as we crochet

Speaker:

all the time, but to customers who don't, crochet

Speaker:

is fascinating.

Speaker:

So if you're selling physical products, if you're

Speaker:

selling what you make, showing your item being

Speaker:

made is absolutely fascinating to your customers

Speaker:

because in general, those who buy Crochet don't

Speaker:

crochet themselves, so they are absolutely

Speaker:

fascinated by the process of something being

Speaker:

crocheted.

Speaker:

For me, I mostly sell patterns, so I will make

Speaker:

videos of how to do certain stitches tutorials on

Speaker:

how they're made.

Speaker:

I will do videos for my patterns and they're all

Speaker:

just showing my hands.

Speaker:

It's very rare you'll find a video with my face on it.

Speaker:

It's a very rare day.

Speaker:

I feel confident enough to do that, so I avoid it

Speaker:

like the plague, which is also why I'm doing this

Speaker:

podcast, because I don't want to do it facing a

Speaker:

camera to go on YouTube.

Speaker:

No, thank you.

Speaker:

I'm not the makeup type person, so applying

Speaker:

makeup is just like hard work to me.

Speaker:

So I'm going to stay off camera as much as I

Speaker:

possibly can.

Speaker:

But as you see, there are lots of other options.

Speaker:

So you can take advantage of this trend with

Speaker:

video content without having to show your face

Speaker:

on the camera.

Speaker:

So don't let this fill you with anxiety.

Speaker:

You can still take advantage of all this, and the

Speaker:

great thing is that you can repurpose your video

Speaker:

content.

Speaker:

So if you make a slideshow of what you make,

Speaker:

then you can just take a single photo of that and

Speaker:

put it in a normal post with what you're doing as

Speaker:

a caption and break that down into a written

Speaker:

post series so you've got all bases covered.

Speaker:

If you have a longer video, you can cut that down

Speaker:

into segments and just have it a short video to go

Speaker:

on TikTok.

Speaker:

The longer video can go on YouTube and on

Speaker:

Instagram and Facebook.

Speaker:

You do have to reformat it for the right size for

Speaker:

the platform, but Canva can help you out with

Speaker:

that.

Speaker:

And most video software will be able to resize for

Speaker:

the platform you're working on.

Speaker:

So you don't have to remake the videos for every

Speaker:

platform, you just have to do a bit of fiddling

Speaker:

about the sizes.

Speaker:

But Canva is your best friend.

Speaker:

I highly, highly recommend it.

Speaker:

Canva is free to use and you can do an awful lot

Speaker:

on their free version if you haven't tried it yet, I

Speaker:

can't recommend it enough.

Speaker:

And that's pretty much all there is to making

Speaker:

videos without showing your face.

Speaker:

It doesn't have to be complicated, it doesn't have

Speaker:

to be anxietyinducing, you can still take

Speaker:

advantage of the traffic videos will bring you, and

Speaker:

you'd never have to show your face.

Speaker:

Thank you for joining me on the podcast today.

Speaker:

I hope that's giving you some things to think

Speaker:

about and if you'd like to hear more about what's

Speaker:

going on in Crochet Business school and would

Speaker:

podcast is out, then subscribe to my newsletter
