Pamela Christa:

Hi, friend.

Pamela Christa:

Welcome back to the Moms who podcast show.

Pamela Christa:

Today's episode is all about podcast music.

Pamela Christa:

And I am excited for this because in episode number 90, I changed my podcast music after having the same music for a really long time.

Pamela Christa:

And so I felt that this episode was really necessary because there's actually a lot that goes into choosing your music.

Pamela Christa:

And we're going to be talking about not only the best places to get podcast music, but also, do you really even need podcast music?

Pamela Christa:

And what happens if you want to change it?

Pamela Christa:

When is a good time?

Pamela Christa:

Right?

Pamela Christa:

And what other things should you be looking for when it comes to choosing your podcast music?

Pamela Christa:

We're going to dive into all of that.

Pamela Christa:

This is a really juicy episode.

Pamela Christa:

Let's get into it.

Pamela Christa:

You're listening to the Moms who podcast show, where I help you start and grow your podcast to sell your services, reclaim time with your family, increase your podcast downloads, and ultimately get clients directly from your podcast so that you can create more income.

Pamela Christa:

I'm your host, Pamela Christa.

Pamela Christa:

I'm a Christian, a wife, a mom of five, and a podcast manager who has helped hundreds of other moms in business elevate their podcast.

Pamela Christa:

And now I'm here to help you do the same.

Pamela Christa:

So let's get ready to skyrocket your podcast growth, and let's dive into today's episode.

Pamela Christa:

Before we dive into today's episode, I just wanted to let you know that if you need help with your podcast music, I would absolutely love to help you.

Pamela Christa:

Whether you haven't yet launched your podcast or maybe you've had your show running for a while and you feel like it's time for a fresh, new sound.

Pamela Christa:

You want new music, you want to record a new intro, a new outro.

Pamela Christa:

And if you're rebranding, maybe even a new trailer, I can help you.

Pamela Christa:

I can help you mix that audio and refresh your intro and outro and trailer to better align with your brand and better align with your podcast.

Pamela Christa:

So if this episode is speaking to you, go ahead and go to the show notes.

Pamela Christa:

The link to book a podcast clarity call with me is there.

Pamela Christa:

And on that call, we can talk about your podcast music and your podcast goals and just chat about what exactly it is that you need.

Pamela Christa:

And we'll get you all set up with new podcast music.

Pamela Christa:

And if you're launching, then we will talk about what that looks like.

Pamela Christa:

Maybe you need my full package.

Pamela Christa:

Maybe you need my mini package.

Pamela Christa:

Or maybe you just need me to do your intro, outro and trailer.

Pamela Christa:

That's actually the help that I got with my podcast when I first started, I just needed some help getting my intro, outro and trailer altogether.

Pamela Christa:

So, friend, again, if this speaks to you, go down to the show notes.

Pamela Christa:

You can find all my contact information there and I can't wait to talk to you about it soon.

Pamela Christa:

Okay, friend.

Pamela Christa:

So this episode was 100% necessary because I recently changed my podcast music in episode number 90 after having my podcast music for quite some time.

Pamela Christa:

So I wanted to take a moment to talk about podcast and music because it's important, you know, it's something that we, you know, kind of think about and do one time.

Pamela Christa:

But also there are times where maybe it's time to do a little something different and change up your podcast music.

Pamela Christa:

And so this episode is going to encompass all the things about podcast music, and we're going to just dive right on into this juiciness.

Pamela Christa:

Okay, so do you need podcast music?

Pamela Christa:

Let's just start there.

Pamela Christa:

Do you need it for your show?

Pamela Christa:

Now, I've said this a lot, and I'm going to say it again, right.

Pamela Christa:

The really cool thing about podcasting is that you can do whatever you want, my friend.

Pamela Christa:

If you don't want to do podcast music, you don't have to.

Pamela Christa:

I know somebody who doesn't do an intro or an outro, and she just uploads audio, and if that's what you want to do, that's totally fine.

Pamela Christa:

So, I mean, the short answer is no, you don't need it.

Pamela Christa:

But I will tell you that you should probably have it, okay?

Pamela Christa:

And here's why.

Pamela Christa:

Your podcast music is a part of your brand, right?

Pamela Christa:

It's a part of your show so people can recognize your music and they're going to know that it's you.

Pamela Christa:

And it just builds comfortability and professionalism.

Pamela Christa:

It makes your podcast just sound professional, and it really just does help, you know, with your brand.

Pamela Christa:

And so I highly recommend that you have music.

Pamela Christa:

Now, most people have their music playing over their intro like I do.

Pamela Christa:

My intro was actually over a minute long before, and I actually, when I updated my podcast music, I actually changed that so that it actually is 30 seconds now.

Pamela Christa:

So it's much shorter.

Pamela Christa:

Punchy, to the point, right?

Pamela Christa:

So you can choose to have your podcast music play over your intro.

Pamela Christa:

However, the other way that you could do it is you can simply just have your podcast music playing in the background over, you know, a clip or an organic intro or however you would like to do it.

Pamela Christa:

But you don't have to have a canned intro.

Pamela Christa:

And what I mean by canned is that it's used in every single episode.

Pamela Christa:

Right.

Pamela Christa:

So the intro that I use over the music is a canned meaning it's 30 seconds, but I'm airing that every single time on the podcast.

Pamela Christa:

I'm using that in each of my episodes.

Pamela Christa:

But you don't have to do it canned.

Pamela Christa:

You can do it organic.

Pamela Christa:

Right.

Pamela Christa:

And so there is different ways to do it.

Pamela Christa:

Okay.

Pamela Christa:

But I highly suggest adding podcast music because it just makes it sound more professional because I had to explain this to my husband.

Pamela Christa:

You don't change your podcast music with every episode.

Pamela Christa:

Right.

Pamela Christa:

It's like a theme song to a tv show.

Pamela Christa:

You're going to keep the same music for a long period of time.

Pamela Christa:

And then if you want to change it, which this is, the next thing we're going to talk about is, okay, so when should you change your podcast music, or should you change it at all?

Pamela Christa:

The short answer is you can change it whenever you want to.

Pamela Christa:

Longer answer would be, if you're doing a few changes, if you're updating your intro, updating your outro, and you've had your music for like a year or more, maybe you could if you wanted to.

Pamela Christa:

But if you're.

Pamela Christa:

If you're totally in love with your music, you can totally keep it.

Pamela Christa:

You can update your intro and outro and all the things without having to go buy new music.

Pamela Christa:

Okay.

Pamela Christa:

So you don't have to change your music.

Pamela Christa:

In fact, it's probably a lot cooler if you don't because then you've kept the same, you know, song for years, and that's really cool, you know, so it really just depends.

Pamela Christa:

Me, I've had three musics on the podcast, so I started the podcast with different podcast music, and then I switched, I forget when I might have been about 20 episodes in, I'm not really sure.

Pamela Christa:

And then I switched the music to something that I loved even more, and that was probably for 60 episodes or more, which is about over a year.

Pamela Christa:

And then, now that I'm.

Pamela Christa:

I'm not doing a rebrand or anything like that, I just.

Pamela Christa:

I went and took care of the foundations of my podcast.

Pamela Christa:

And so as I was doing that, I just felt called to choose new music.

Pamela Christa:

So that's what I decided to do.

Pamela Christa:

So if you decide to do that, that is totally fine.

Pamela Christa:

However, I do not recommend changing your podcast music, like every month or even every six months.

Pamela Christa:

It's just too much and it's like, for no reason.

Pamela Christa:

Now, if you're making significant changes in your business, and maybe you did change it three months ago.

Pamela Christa:

Maybe you don't change your music, but you just update the intro.

Pamela Christa:

But if you're called to change the music, then, friend, do what you will.

Pamela Christa:

That is completely fine.

Pamela Christa:

It's your podcast and it's up to you.

Pamela Christa:

I'm just here to give you the strategy.

Pamela Christa:

You can take it or leave it, but there's so many ways to do things.

Pamela Christa:

Okay?

Pamela Christa:

So you can do what you want to.

Pamela Christa:

Now, where to find podcast music?

Pamela Christa:

I'm going to be honest, there are many places that you can go to find music for your podcast, but I'm going to share with you the two places that I trust and that I really like, that I've used and that I recommend to everybody.

Pamela Christa:

And so the very first place that I ever bought music from was audiojungle.net dot.

Pamela Christa:

I will have everything linked in the show notes, so do not worry.

Pamela Christa:

But I love audiojungle.

Pamela Christa:

It was really easy to use.

Pamela Christa:

You pick a genre, you pay for the song and it, you download it like it was very simple.

Pamela Christa:

And you can buy songs from audiojungle.net from anywhere from, I would say like $5, maybe even cheaper, all the way up to like a hundred.

Pamela Christa:

So it depends on probably the artist, the popularity, all these different things, right?

Pamela Christa:

So the price varies on audiojungle.

Pamela Christa:

And the second place that I love to find music from is something called premiumbeat.com.

Pamela Christa:

and I really like premium beat.

Pamela Christa:

I've actually bought my last three podcast songs from premium beat and I really, really, I really like it.

Pamela Christa:

The difference is that it is not a range of price.

Pamela Christa:

It is one price.

Pamela Christa:

So it is $59 for one song.

Pamela Christa:

But if you're using that for over a year, I mean, it's worth it.

Pamela Christa:

You know, it's going to be for your podcast brand again, we don't need to change it frequently at all.

Pamela Christa:

So it's, it's kind of something that you can consider one and done.

Pamela Christa:

You know, you don't have to do it again because again, you can keep the same music, but you can always change and update your intro or your outro, right?

Pamela Christa:

So it's a very good investment, in my opinion, of spending that $59.

Pamela Christa:

For me, it was 100% worth it.

Pamela Christa:

And so what I really like about premium beat, audio jungle actually does this too.

Pamela Christa:

Depending on the type of song you get and the artist and all that, you actually get multiple different, like, files.

Pamela Christa:

So with audio jungle, it kind of depends, right?

Pamela Christa:

But with premium beat, every single song that I've come across has like a regular version and then they have an instrumental version, and then they have like different lengths and they have loops and shorts and these different things.

Pamela Christa:

And so I actually use one of those sounds for my transition, right.

Pamela Christa:

So how I do my episodes is I do my hook and then the music plays and my 32nd intro plays over the music and then I go into, you know, my call to action and then after that, a transition plays.

Pamela Christa:

So it's really, really cool to use in different ways like that.

Pamela Christa:

And so when you're looking for podcast music, when we think of, you know, what else should I be looking for?

Pamela Christa:

You need to be looking for the length, okay.

Pamela Christa:

Because I've had to tell a few of my clients this.

Pamela Christa:

If your intro that you're giving me is like a minute long, you want to make sure that the song is at least, at minimum 1 minute and 30 seconds long.

Pamela Christa:

Because what happens is if you buy a song that's shorter than your intro, you're going to be talking longer than the music's playing.

Pamela Christa:

And we don't want that.

Pamela Christa:

That's not going to sound good at all.

Pamela Christa:

So be mindful of the length when you are purchasing music and be mindful of how long your intro is.

Pamela Christa:

So what I recommend you doing is recording your intro first, knowing how long it is after you have recorded and after you're happy with it.

Pamela Christa:

So, okay, my intro is 57 seconds long, I would add at least, I would say like 40 seconds to a minute after that, honestly.

Pamela Christa:

So I would, I think it's always a safe bet to get a song that's over two minutes long because you want to have time to maybe think about, you know, how you want it to sound.

Pamela Christa:

If you want it to fade in, fade out all the things.

Pamela Christa:

Okay.

Pamela Christa:

So you should be looking at the length.

Pamela Christa:

The second thing you want to be looking for is you want more than one file.

Pamela Christa:

So I just talked about this.

Pamela Christa:

So you want to make sure that it doesn't only come with a song.

Pamela Christa:

And if it does, if you really, really love it and it only comes with like one two minute song, that's cool, that's fine.

Pamela Christa:

But if you have different things to choose from, different, like variations, links, that's always nice.

Pamela Christa:

So not necessary, but definitely something to look for.

Pamela Christa:

Also, you want to make sure that your music is not too overpowering.

Pamela Christa:

Because what happens is when you're talking and the music is so loud and like, you can't really make out what you're saying.

Pamela Christa:

And then that goes to like, you know, the audio levels and how loud you're speaking in addition to the music.

Pamela Christa:

So you want to make sure that it's not too overpowering.

Pamela Christa:

And honestly, don't stress about the podcast music.

Pamela Christa:

You know, it is something that's important for sure.

Pamela Christa:

But again, it can be something that's one and done.

Pamela Christa:

And then if you want to update the intro or the outro, you totally can.

Pamela Christa:

You don't need to purchase a new song every six months or once a year or anything like that.

Pamela Christa:

You should do it as needed or as you feel called to.

Pamela Christa:

So I hope that this was super duper helpful.

Pamela Christa:

I would love to know what you think of my podcast music.

Pamela Christa:

Let me know.

Pamela Christa:

Either shoot me an email or send me a message on Instagram.

Pamela Christa:

I love a good saxophone, so this music just speaks to my soul and I hope it speaks to you, too.

Pamela Christa:

I hope you love it when you listen to it, and I hope that your audience loves the music that you pick.

Pamela Christa:

And if you need help with this, I actually help all of my podcast launch clients through this.

Pamela Christa:

So what I do is you tell me the genre of music that you like, or you can even send me some examples of podcast music that you like from other shows.

Pamela Christa:

And then I will then go back and give you like three songs to choose from at a time and just kind of keep sending them to you until you find your perfect music.

Pamela Christa:

And then I also send all my clients a video of, like, me actually going into audio jungle and of me actually going into premium beat and finding a song there and kind of like showing you like, where to click and what to look for and all of that, like visually through a video.

Pamela Christa:

So if you need help with the podcast, launch, if you, so if you're in the process of launching your podcast and you know that you would love some help with your podcast music and really just the whole entire process of launching a podcast, because that is a lot of work.

Pamela Christa:

I would absolutely love to help you.

Pamela Christa:

There's actually a link in the show notes for you to click on.

Pamela Christa:

If you are interested in launching your podcast, I would love to help support you with that.

Pamela Christa:

And if you have already launched your podcast and you are wanting to take your podcast to the next level, or you're feeling a bit stuck and you're not sure what the next steps are, I would love to help you get clear on your goals and map out a strategy for you.

Pamela Christa:

I want you to go to the show notes and book a free clarity call with me so that we can chat about how I can support you in growing your podcast and making it work for you and for your business.

Pamela Christa:

And honestly, there's no pressure, no obligation, just an absolute, honest conversation about how we can make things easier for you.

Pamela Christa:

You can find the link to book that clarity call in the show notes.

Pamela Christa:

I would absolutely love to connect with you.

Pamela Christa:

And also, if you haven't yet launched your podcast and you're not sure what you need help with and you might not be interested in my launch package, that's okay, friend.

Pamela Christa:

I would still love to chat with you.

Pamela Christa:

So book a clarity call even if you haven't launched your podcast yet.

Pamela Christa:

I just wanted you to know that there is a link in the show notes specifically for a podcast launch.

Pamela Christa:

So I hope you love this episode, friend.

Pamela Christa:

As always, I hope it was jam packed with value for you.

Pamela Christa:

I know that this would have been so helpful for me when I was launching my show.

Pamela Christa:

So that is what I want to bring you is I want to make things easier and I don't want to give you any fluff.

Pamela Christa:

So with that being said, if you haven't already, please leave a review on the podcast because that would absolutely make my day and I might even read it right here on the show.

Pamela Christa:

I read every single one that comes through and it just lights me up so much.

Pamela Christa:

And it also helps this podcast get shown to other moms who podcast like you.

Pamela Christa:

Thank you so much for listening and I will talk to you next week.

Pamela Christa:

Bye.

Pamela Christa:

I really hope that you enjoyed this episode.

Pamela Christa:

If you did, would you please take 30 seconds of your time and share it with another mama friend who wants to start or grow their podcast?

Pamela Christa:

Podcast?

Pamela Christa:

That would mean so much to me, and I'm sure she would appreciate it too.

Pamela Christa:

Also, I would absolutely love if you could really, really quickly leave a review for the show on Apple Podcasts.

Pamela Christa:

That's the only way that I know that you're loving the show.

Pamela Christa:

Plus, it helps the show get in front of more female entrepreneurs just like you.

Pamela Christa:

I'll see you in next week's episode for even more tangible podcast tips.

Pamela Christa:

Until then, have a beautiful week.

Pamela Christa:

Bye.
