36 Watch therefore, and pray always.
Jesus. Luke 21:34-36. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 30 of 30 Days in the Gospels. Watch and pray. Always. Why? Because the rush of life—with all of its varying activity from parties to bills. If our hearts get wrapped up in life so that we forget the One that really matters, we’ll be devastated at Jesus’ return by the reality that we don’t know him and are thus unprepared to share eternity with him. Think of it. Watching the living Jesus, accompanied by a sweeping sea of angelic beings, as he approaches earth for the final rescue—only to realize you’d sold your soul for a few years of comfort. Can you imagine the intensity of regret in that moment? The inner-horror at realizing all you have lost—to gain so little. No human sorry could be deeper than that moment of devastating realization. Don’t let that be your story. Make Jesus first. Daily. Let the entire horizon of your life be consumed by the wonderful vision of Jesus. And when he comes, it will be the very best day of your life. Ever.
