In this episode, we're talking about a trendy health hack that could
2
:actually be damaging your partner's s.
3
:Welcome to the finally Get
Pregnant Naturally Podcast.
4
:The podcast helping women identify
the real reasons you haven't
5
:conceived or stayed pregnant, so
you and your partner can finally
6
:grow the family of your dreams.
7
:I'm your host, Dr.
8
:Katie Wood.
9
:Let's dive in, shall we?
10
:Katie: In this episode, you're going to
learn why heat is such a hidden saboteur
11
:for sperm health, how long it really
takes for sperm to recover in simple swaps
12
:and lifestyle shifts your partner can
make right now to boost sperm quality.
13
:Now, I know a lot of you listening
are just doing all the things right?
14
:You've cleaned up your diet,
you're tracking your cycles, you're
15
:getting all the right labs done,
and maybe even you're working on
16
:your stress and your nervous system.
17
:But if your partner's sperm health
hasn't been fully optimized and
18
:it's not being addressed, this
may very well be the reason you're
19
:still struggling to get pregnant.
20
:So let's dive in.
21
:When I say trendy health hack,
I'm curious what comes to mind.
22
:What I'm talking about is saunas,
steam rooms, hot yoga or any
23
:infrared light therapy beds, right?
24
:What we're talking about
today is heat exposure, so.
25
:I have actually had a couple of my
male clients share with me that.
26
:They were regularly using either
hot tubs or saunas, and that's
27
:because men are leaning into these
healthy habits more than ever.
28
:And it could be for a variety of
reasons, including recovery, relaxation,
29
:or even longevity biohacking.
30
:And while there are benefits to things
like sauna for cardiovascular health
31
:and detox when it comes to fertility,
too much heat can actually backfire.
32
:So when I had another client come
through that was using a form of heat
33
:therapy, and they have been struggling
to get pregnant for a while now, I
34
:just knew that I needed to make a
podcast about this, to talk about it.
35
:'cause maybe it's not as well known as.
36
:I think it is.
37
:So let's talk about why
heat is not sperm friendly.
38
:So sperm are produced in the testes and
the testes are located outside of the
39
:body for a reason, and that's because
they need to stay a couple degrees
40
:cooler than the rest of the body.
41
:When the testes are exposed to
excess heat, it directly affects
42
:sperm production and also quality.
43
:So we're talking reduced sperm
count, sluggish motility, and
44
:sometimes even abnormal morphology.
45
:So that's why when someone has a
varicose seal, that can disrupt
46
:the quality of sperm because it
is increasing the heat exposure.
47
:So even short bursts of heat
exposure, like a few sauna sessions
48
:can have a measurable impact.
49
:And unfortunately, the sperm
don't bounce back right away.
50
:It can take a couple of
months to fully recover.
51
:So if your partner is spending
his evening soaking in a hot
52
:tub, cranking up the heated car
seats, doing hot yoga or a sauna.
53
:A couple times a week, or
even just here and there,
54
:this could actually be
sabotaging your fertility.
55
:So why does this matter so much?
56
:Number one, I think it's really
easy to forget that fertility
57
:is a two person equation.
58
:We tend to put all of our focus
more on the woman's body, her
59
:hormones, her cycle, her labs, and.
60
:Oftentimes, women are the ones that are
most willing to make changes and to do all
61
:the research and things like that as well.
62
:But research shows that malf factor plays
a role in about 50% of infertility cases.
63
:So whether it's just a male factor
thing, or it's both partners, it's.
64
:Definitely not just all about you.
65
:So I always wanna remind people
that even if his semen analysis
66
:came back normal, those tests don't
always capture the full picture.
67
:It was a moment in time, it.
68
:Another two to three months later, his
sperm could be in a completely different
69
:condition depending on if his lifestyle
or nutrition habits had changed.
70
:And here's the thing.
71
:Sperm regenerates about every 72 days,
so roughly every three months, which
72
:means any changes he makes today will
help improve sperm quality by the time
73
:you're trying in just a couple of months.
74
:Okay?
75
:But also that does mean that any
negative things that he could be
76
:doing today, like doing a sauna,
hot tub, hot yoga, things like that.
77
:That could be negatively
impacting his sperm, right?
78
:So that's just something to think about.
79
:So what can you do about it?
80
:How can you motivate and support
him in making shifts without it
81
:feeling like you're nagging him?
82
:Here's a few practical ideas that
you can share with your partner.
83
:So number one, press pause on
these heat exposure habits.
84
:So this doesn't mean for
the rest of his life, he can
85
:never step into a sauna again.
86
:But I do highly recommend.
87
:Limiting or eliminating frequent or
prolonged exposure, especially if
88
:you are actively trying to conceive.
89
:You can swap in supportive alternatives
like cold plunges, or you can alternate
90
:hot and cold like in the shower.
91
:And these can give many of the same
recovery benefits without damaging sperm.
92
:Plus cold therapy has actually
been shown to be supportive of
93
:testosterone and sperm quality.
94
:Reconsider daily exposures.
95
:So the little things add up too.
96
:So think about heated car seats, taking a
long hot bath, putting a laptop directly
97
:on his lap or a phone in his pocket.
98
:Even wearing briefs can reduce air
circulation and increase heat as well.
99
:Also working at a, a job where he's
sitting a lot and he's very sedentary.
100
:You wanna encourage him to get up and
start moving about every hour or so.
101
:And then of course, we can support
sperm recovery with a diet rich.
102
:And antioxidants like vitamin C, vitamin
E, zinc, and Selenium can help counteract
103
:some oxidative stress from past exposures.
104
:And of course, with my
one-on-one clients, I am.
105
:Always offering personalized
supplements that are directly targeting.
106
:Maybe they have more of a motility
issue or a morphology issue.
107
:So supplements that we know are beneficial
in target, whatever their specific area of
108
:improvement may be for the sperm health.
109
:And just remember, the three
month rule improvements will not
110
:happen overnight, but every and
any adjustment he makes today can
111
:translate into stronger, healthier
sperm within about 72 days or so.
112
:Okay, so let's recap.
113
:Today's episode, he exposure
is a hidden saboteur, so this
114
:includes saunas, hot tubs, laptops,
phones, so many different things.
115
:Sperm need cooler temps to thrive,
which is why the testes were
116
:intentionally put outside of body.
117
:Even short term heat damage
can take months to recover.
118
:But just remembering sperm does
regenerate every 72 days or so.
119
:So lifestyle changes, nutrient
changes really do pay off.
120
:And just remembering simple swaps
and awareness, like limiting hot
121
:tubs using cold therapy or skipping
the heated car seat can make a real
122
:difference in his sperm health and
ultimately, your chances of conceiving.
123
:Ground you after this episode.
124
:And remember, this journey
isn't just on your shoulders.
125
:Male fertility matters just as much,
and sometimes the changes your partner
126
:makes can be the missing piece to
finally seeing your positive test.
127
:So if you've been feeling like you've
tried everything and nothing is working,
128
:I encourage you to have an open and
compassionate conversation about
129
:sperm health and heat exposure because
sometimes it's the simplest shifts
130
:that unlock the biggest breakthroughs.
131
:So if this episode sparked an aha moment
for you, share it with your partner or
132
:send it to a friend who's also on this
journey, and if you wanna go deeper and
133
:uncover the hidden factors holding you
back from a healthy pregnancy, book a
134
:free fertility strategy session with me.
135
:The link is right in the show notes.
136
:There's no strings attached.
137
:Just a conversation and
how I can best help.
138
:Support you and guide you, and until
next time, I'm sending you so much love.
139
:Thank you so much for listening.
140
:I hope you have a beautiful day,
and I'll see you on our next episode
141
:released every Tuesday and Thursday.
