Dr. Nancy Scanlan was born in Maine, but spent her childhood constantly moving both around the United States and overseas, following her father's career in the United States Navy. She got her DVM from the University of California Davis in 1970. After graduation, she worked in various private practices and taught in Veterinary Technician programs. Her path to integrative medicine started with an in interest in vitamins and supplements. She was certified in acupuncture by IVAS in 1989, and also has training in chiropractic, Chinese and Western Herbal Medicine, and Homotoxicology. She spent nearly 20 years as an Integrative Practitioner in a 7 person small animal practice in the Los Angeles area. She has also consulted for supplement and herbal companies. She is the author of a textbook for Veterinary Technicians and Nurses and has lectured both nationally and internationally. She has also served as the Executive Director of both the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association and the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Foundation. She is currently the Student Services Director for CIVT.
