His relentless pursuit of success saw him bring the World Land Speed Record back to Britain in 1983 behind the wheel of Thrust 2 at 633.468 mph (1,019.468 km/h), and 14 years later lead the Thrust SSC team to the first supersonic land speed record. An inspiration to speed racers the world over, Richard sat down with us to tell the story of the Thrust records alongside the trials and tribulations of bringing other innovative projects into reality on land, at sea and in the air - often in the face of resistance from the most unlikely quarters.
