Shownotes

There was a time when hunting season didn’t just mean opening morning. It meant hunting camp.

It meant an old camper, a little cabin, or maybe just a wall tent somewhere back in the woods. It meant a pot of coffee that had been sitting on the stove way too long, somebody telling the same story you’d already heard a hundred times, wet boots drying by the fire, and a group of people sitting around at the end of the day arguing about where the deer went.

And somewhere along the way, it feels like we’ve started losing that.

Hunting has changed. We’ve got better gear, better information, better technology, and probably more ways than ever to become successful in the woods. But as hunting has become more efficient, more individual, and more focused on the outcome, I wonder if we’ve sacrificed some of the things that made hunting special in the first place.

Because hunting camp was never really about the camp.

It was where kids learned from their dads and granddads. Where friendships were built. Where stories became traditions, and traditions got handed down to the next generation. Half the memories we carry from hunting season didn’t happen in a tree stand at all—they happened back at camp.

So tonight, we’re talking about the death of the hunting camp—why it seems to be disappearing, what we might be losing along with it, and whether there’s still time for our generation to keep that tradition alive.
