Transcripts

Kasim:

Hey, this is Cast with Solutions eight, and welcome

Kasim:

to your daily Google News.

Kasim:

I am here with one of my favorite people in the whole wide world, who

Kasim:

also interestingly happens to be the godfather of our YouTube channel.

Kasim:

Er, thank you for being here.

Kasim:

Thank you, cast.

Kasim:

I wouldn't call myself a godfather.

Kasim:

Yeah, well you're the precursor.

Kasim:

So everybody knows ER and I met, it's funny, I'm digital marketers,

Kasim:

traffic coach ER ended up in my cohort and then he ended up switching

Kasim:

the script on us and coaching me.

Kasim:

Cuz you have, what's easily the most.

Kasim:

prolific Google specific YouTube channel of anybody.

Kasim:

Right?

Kasim:

Is there anybody out there that has a, a more traffic channel than you, you think?

Kasim:

don't know whether somebody has got over a thousand YouTube videos on a

Kasim:

particular topic like Google Ads, which we have on our channel and is growing.

Kasim:

would like to add is, I appreciate your comment about me being godfather but I.

Kasim:

Teach and mentor hundreds if not thousands of people about video marketing.

Kasim:

Very few people take action, and you're one of them who took on board what

Kasim:

is possible, and you're doing this regularly and good luck to you that

Kasim:

you are getting good results, getting a little bit more leads, more customers.

Kasim:

And just keep growing because whilst all the other people in the on and our

Kasim:

competitors are sleeping away, we'll just carry on creating good quality content.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

Well, you said something to me in the beginning that was so

Kasim:

simple and it was so accessible.

Kasim:

You're like, shoot a video every day.

Kasim:

And then I thought, I was like, I can do that.

Kasim:

And I, I'm gonna share your channel real quick just so everybody can see it.

Kasim:

I will include this in the description, the video too.

Kasim:

ER has SF Digital Studios.

Kasim:

When you and I met you, were at what, 12,000 subscribers.

Kasim:

I think I was just under 10,000.

Kasim:

Okay.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

I, I think you're right.

Kasim:

And now you've just exploded and have been exploding.

Kasim:

So the trajectory's amazing to watch.

Kasim:

if you're subscribed to our channel, you should definitely be

Kasim:

subscribed to his Azures channel.

Kasim:

Cuz we're talking about a lot of the same things.

Kasim:

What I love about Youer though is you rank for so much long tail content.

Kasim:

I remember.

Kasim:

Will you tell the story about being on the phone with Google

Kasim:

support and people recognizing you?

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

it was a funny conversation because the guy on, the other end in Bangalore,

Kasim:

because I use there from YouTube, I said, yeah, oh, thank you so much.

Kasim:

I know we learn a lot from you and we watch your channel regularly.

Kasim:

You should come and teach us.

Kasim:

I said, well, tell your boss and invite me and I'll fly over to Bangalore and,

Kasim:

mentor and teach you guys as well.

Kasim:

and he's a Google employee, right?

Kasim:

He's in Google's office.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

And the guy at Google is saying, oh, thank you.

Kasim:

We learned so much from you.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

Because if you put up good quality content, you know

Kasim:

anyone and everyone can learn.

Kasim:

I learn a lot from you, and I'm sure others learn a lot from me.

Kasim:

Nobody and I learn a lot every day.

Kasim:

Nobody can say, neither you nor me can say, we know everything, right?

Kasim:

We don't.

Kasim:

We learn those people go away very quickly, yeah, just putting your content

Kasim:

up on YouTube and on the internet.

Kasim:

You don't know who watches it, who sees you, and you get connections.

Kasim:

You get leads and clients, which you can even dream of.

Kasim:

As I was talking to earlier on, the furthest I've got, In the US is Hawaii.

Kasim:

Now, you know, there's thousands and thousands of miles away and

Kasim:

people have called me, paid me to go there and teach them with your

Kasim:

marketing or Google ads or whatever.

Kasim:

You can never do that, right?

Kasim:

And most people have got the small mindset, oh, I'm just going to look work

Kasim:

in my local community, which is fine.

Kasim:

But if you want to think big, you got the whole world to target,

Kasim:

then this is how you, do this.

Kasim:

And the good thing is not many people do it properly.

Kasim:

And not many people are doing it at all.

Kasim:

Well, so I mean, that's what's crazy to me is just how quickly this, this happened.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

I remember when you sold me on the concept, I was like, all

Kasim:

right, I'll do it for a year.

Kasim:

And if I, start to see signs of life after a year, then we'll keep going.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

Which I felt was reasonable.

Kasim:

I think we were doing it for three months when the leads started R

Kasim:

rolling in and they're, great leads.

Kasim:

They're people that know us.

Kasim:

They like our approach, they understand our methodology.

Kasim:

It's funny because I get policed by clients now sometimes, you know,

Kasim:

like, we'll do something and a client will be like, well, wait a minute,

Kasim:

isn't that gonna take 10 to 12 days?

Kasim:

And I'm like, how do you know more about this than tonight?

Kasim:

then, yeah, it's unreal.

Kasim:

What I'm trying to get at though, just to reverse is How quickly I saw an impact.

Kasim:

Have you seen that to be, the situation to be similar with other,

Kasim:

students, other people that you coach?

Kasim:

Absolutely.

Kasim:

And we have a common friend, Donna, She is exploded.

Kasim:

She's in Romania and she does tutoring and I told the kid, At it and start making

Kasim:

videos and her channel has exploded.

Kasim:

She's getting leads, sales, customers views and keep doing this.

Kasim:

It's like going to the gym, you know, you just can't go a few times and stop, right?

Kasim:

nothing is going to happen, but the fun starts when your

Kasim:

videos get ranked in Google.

Kasim:

Page one.

Kasim:

And as you know that there's a four pack.

Kasim:

Before it used to be three pack.

Kasim:

Now they've made it four pack.

Kasim:

That means Google is paying even more relevance to you.

Kasim:

Videos from YouTube.

Kasim:

You get four pack.

Kasim:

Many of our videos out of four, three of them will be mine,

Kasim:

or sometimes four outta four.

Kasim:

I'm hearing a lot of things that are really worth meditating on.

Kasim:

And again, if you're thinking about or on the fence of, starting a YouTube

Kasim:

channel, do it because it's been one of the most powerful things for our business.

Kasim:

And I don't mean just in lead generation.

Kasim:

what's cool that happens for us too is like people find out about

Kasim:

us other ways, you know, referral.

Kasim:

I speak, they find, you know, Google ads, whatever, and then they research

Kasim:

us and they land on our channel.

Kasim:

We're like, oh my goodness, this is, you know, I like these guys,

Kasim:

or maybe even as important.

Kasim:

I don't like these guys, which is cool cause that sort of saves us some time too.

Kasim:

So there's this more branding element to it.

Kasim:

Yeah, brand.

Kasim:

We build your brand and this is what, I always tell everyone, build your brand.

Kasim:

This is really important so that something silly like this iOS update is not going

Kasim:

to have any effect on your business.

Kasim:

God knows what's going to happen in the near future, which is pretty scary.

Kasim:

from where I look at it.

Kasim:

If.

Kasim:

Apple can do this to Facebook.

Kasim:

God knows what they are thinking of doing to Google.

Kasim:

Hmm.

Kasim:

I think Apple's gonna roll out their own ad network.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

they took out their biggest competitor before they even got into the space.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

They're digging.

Kasim:

Develop master stroke.

Kasim:

Master stroke.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

it's a segue that I actually wanna get into, but before we talk about the

Kasim:

future of digital marketing, I want to just put a bow on the conversation here.

Kasim:

Imagine you're talking to folks that would be interested in

Kasim:

launching their own YouTube channel.

Kasim:

I like this 9 88 Challenge shooted video every day for 90 days to talk to me.

Kasim:

Does it need to be like high production quality or there only

Kasim:

like special tips and tricks?

Kasim:

Like What's the make it easy.

Kasim:

Cheat on the phone.

Kasim:

As it can get.

Kasim:

obviously you need a little microphone Yeah.

Kasim:

To make your quality a bit better.

Kasim:

And a $50 light.

Kasim:

But you don't need to spend thousands and thousands get started.

Kasim:

Your first few videos are going to suck.

Kasim:

Really suck, and you'll hate looking at them, but you not looking at yourself.

Kasim:

Just put it up and let others watch it and decide whether they like it or not.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

Once I remember, I spent four hours shooting in the beginning.

Kasim:

I used to spend hours on an trying to make it perfect, four, five hours.

Kasim:

I recorded it and then I went home, came back the next day and I had said

Kasim:

the wrong color balance on the camera.

Kasim:

So I was looking orange.

Kasim:

Right.

Kasim:

Oh.

Kasim:

I'm thinking, oh God, I spent all over here.

Kasim:

That'll get you elected.

Kasim:

So and I was so fed up, I thought, saw it, I'm gonna upload it.

Kasim:

That's been one of my best videos.

Kasim:

It's done over like 80, 90,000 views or something like that.

Kasim:

you don't need to have top quality.

Kasim:

We are not, producing a Hollywood blockbuster.

Kasim:

Right, and people don't trust those.

Kasim:

If you wanna learn, I think they like organic, they like,

Kasim:

you know, ham, I'm talking to a buddy on a Zoom call, basically.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

It's more relatable and if it is too perfect, that means

Kasim:

it's staged, scripted, right?

Kasim:

And people don't believe it.

Kasim:

I'll ask you a question.

Kasim:

You don't have to answer if you don't want to.

Kasim:

If you make a mistake in a video, and I, don't mean like a, said the wrong word.

Kasim:

I mean, you say something that's incorrect and you find out a

Kasim:

day, a week, a month later.

Kasim:

Do you leave the video or do you take it down?

Kasim:

I would leave it on and I have done many times.

Kasim:

Well, I missed something.

Kasim:

I had a comment this morning on one of the videos, which was posted three years ago.

Kasim:

You didn't show us how to do conversion tracking.

Kasim:

did you forget?

Kasim:

I said, no, this video wasn't about how to do conversion tracking.

Kasim:

This was about Google Display Network.

Kasim:

Mm-hmm.

Kasim:

But then I have made a mistake where I remember clearly it was a video

Kasim:

about Call Edge and the, thumbnail on it was about Google Edge.

Kasim:

And then somebody said, well, this is college.

Kasim:

Why are you showing us expanded text ads?

Kasim:

Or you displaying on that?

Kasim:

And I said, well, I'm sorry.

Kasim:

My mistake.

Kasim:

It wasn't, yeah, yeah, that's fine.

Kasim:

Start the conversation.

Kasim:

You become even more human rather than trying to brush it

Kasim:

under the carpet or whatever.

Kasim:

Just say it's not the end of the world.

Kasim:

it's not a matter of life or death.

Kasim:

You made a mistake.

Kasim:

I don't want to delete a 30 minute video.

Kasim:

Just because I made a mistake, a silly little mistake or error on minute.

Kasim:

21 or something like that.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

so I love what you just said, I, again, , if you're gonna start a YouTube channel,

Kasim:

it's the mistakes and the errors that I think people have connected with the most.

Kasim:

Like I've said some stupid stuff or I'll get on there and I'll actually say

Kasim:

like, I don't really understand this.

Kasim:

This is what I think.

Kasim:

Let me know what y'all think.

Kasim:

Those are the best conversations I've ever had.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

I've learned from it.

Kasim:

We've now officially hired from our YouTube channel.

Kasim:

had young man reach out and found us on YouTube and he wanted to work with us.

Kasim:

he's on our staff now.

Kasim:

But yeah, I like, the grittier we can get, I think the better,

Kasim:

the more real and organic.

Kasim:

So I like that you leave your mistakes too, because I didn't

Kasim:

know if I was being foolish or not.

Kasim:

I had one and I won't tell you which one it is cause I don't

Kasim:

want anybody to go seek it out.

Kasim:

But I misunderstood the literature.

Kasim:

Google made an announcement.

Kasim:

I'll tell you because it's hard for me to talk about without

Kasim:

Google made an announcement about their continued attempt at.

Kasim:

Ultimately killing third party cookies.

Kasim:

And I misread the literature as Google saying, we're gonna

Kasim:

kill first party cookies.

Kasim:

And I freaked out.

Kasim:

I was like, how is anybody gonna do anything like this?

Kasim:

Doesn't make any sense.

Kasim:

You know, how could they, even enforced something like this, et cetera.

Kasim:

And then somebody in my comment, very kind was like, Hey, I think you might

Kasim:

have, on the wrong page or whatever.

Kasim:

but what's cool is, I think leaving that stuff up, it just

Kasim:

lets people know like, Hey, you get the good, the bad and the ugly.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

But what I don't do.

Kasim:

Kasim is if I'm not comfortable or an expert, and especially with all

Kasim:

this tacky and geeky cookies and all that stuff, you'll never find

Kasim:

any of my videos on those topics.

Kasim:

Whereas I'm not comfortable talking about it, so I don't do it.

Kasim:

Are you're familiar with the Dunning Krueger effect?

Kasim:

No.

Kasim:

The two psychologists that did a study that identified the fact that it's the

Kasim:

dumber a person is the more qualified they think they are for something.

Kasim:

Okay.

Kasim:

I'm on the wrong side of the Dunning Kruegger line.

Kasim:

Like I'll make a video about it.

Kasim:

I'm just like, oh, I'm qualified to talk about this.

Kasim:

I'm just kidding.

Kasim:

No, what I like to do is, if I don't understand it, I'll tell

Kasim:

people, but I like to speak to things where I do at least believe.

Kasim:

I understand the implication is in terms of how it's going

Kasim:

to impact the things I do know.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

flock is really a really good example.

Kasim:

I do not understand on a, from a coding perspective, yeah, I don't

Kasim:

understand flock, but I think maybe better than most people in the world.

Kasim:

I have a view right now as to how flock is going to impact the way that we bid.

Kasim:

Mm-hmm.

Kasim:

And so I'll talk about that.

Kasim:

And what's funny is they keep changing it too.

Kasim:

So I need to shut up about it until it's more solidified.

Kasim:

Yeah.

Kasim:

I really like those conversations.

Kasim:

I also like what, my YouTube channel has done for my learning, because in

Kasim:

order to talk about anything, I don't wanna get caught, you know what I mean?

Kasim:

So I go and I read all the literature, I watch all the videos, and then as

Kasim:

soon as I feel like I'm firmly rooted, then I'll go and I'll shoot my video.

Kasim:

Yeah, absolutely.

Kasim:

And luckily for us, we've got support.google.com.

Kasim:

Right.

Kasim:

But there will be some kind of authority websites in every niche.

Kasim:

Whereas the Bible for that industry, you go there, if you don't know, you

Kasim:

learn, and then it will enhance your reputation and also your skillset.
