One of the most common questions I get is, "Am I ready to be a brand photographer?" And this is actually a loaded question.
In my experience, there are four types of photographers who are interested in brand photography. To help you figure out where you stand and what steps you should take next, I created a quiz called "Are You Ready To Be a Brand Photographer?"
In this episode, we'll dive into the quiz and these four brand photographer types. By taking the quiz, you'll discover your type and get a clear roadmap for what you should focus on to start charging four figures as a brand photographer.
In the next four episodes of the Take It Personally, we'll explore each brand photographer type in more depth, giving you actionable steps to become the go-to brand photographer in your area.
You're listening to Take It Personally,
a podcast for photographers about
2
:the personal side of business
and the art of standing out.
3
:Here I'll help you build a business
and a brand that is uniquely you.
4
:If you want to attract dream
clients and stop looking at the
5
:competition to decide your next move.
6
:If you are ready to show up as a
confident branding authority to help
7
:you serve your clients and consider
your goals and priorities too.
8
:If you want to make your mark in a
new, underserved niche of photography,
9
:then this is the place for you.
10
:I'm your host Maddie Pachon, South
Dakota brand photographer and educator.
11
:I'm a straight shooting, Instagram
obsessed, and Instagramer.
12
:Diehard Swifty who has built a multi
six figure business on the back of brand
13
:photography all while raising a family.
14
:And I know you can do the same.
15
:Let's get ready to take it personally.
16
:Wireless Microphone RX-1: One of the most
common questions that I get is some flavor
17
:of, am I ready to be a brand photographer?
18
:And I think when people ask this
question, they're actually asking
19
:a lot of other questions, right?
20
:Like, Not only am I ready to be a
brand photographer, but can I make
21
:money as a brand photographer?
22
:Can I get booked as a brand photographer?
23
:Will people ever know me
as a brand photographer.
24
:Do I want to be known
as a brand photographer?
25
:This is a really loaded question.
26
:And my answer is actually
not always a blanket.
27
:Yes.
28
:Well, I think that a lot of portrait
and wedding photographers are
29
:perfectly positioned to be able
to take on brand photography.
30
:It's not going to be for everyone most
obviously, if you love portraits and
31
:love weddings and have no interest
in adding anything else to your
32
:plate, I completely understand that.
33
:But for the rest of us spring,
photography can be a really great way.
34
:To get out of the hustle of giving up
all of your nights and weekends in order
35
:to make a living as a photographer.
36
:It can also be a really fulfilling type of
photography, especially for those people
37
:who maybe have a background in marketing
or PR branding or communications.
38
:And it can be a great way to continue
serving your other photography clients
39
:that come to you with different needs.
40
:Right?
41
:It's another way to continue
working with the same clients
42
:that you know, and that you love.
43
:And what I realized after running now.
44
:Gosh.
45
:I think coming up on six cohorts
of rebrand, my group coaching
46
:program for photographers who
want to get into branding.
47
:What I've realized is that I tend to
see four types of photographers who
48
:are interested in brand photography.
49
:I wanted a way to kind of
give people what they need.
50
:Like if you are this particular
photographer, here's what you need
51
:to work on to get to the point
where you can charge four figures.
52
:And if you're interested in rebrand,
like here's what you need to work
53
:on to be able to come into the
program and have your business just
54
:take off with brand photography.
55
:So I have created a quiz called are
you ready to be a brand photographer?
56
:It lives on my website.
57
:If you go to my website,
you're going to see.
58
:The quiz, but you can also go
to Maddie Dot com slash quiz.
59
:And you can take that quiz there.
60
:And I really encourage you to do this.
61
:If brand photography is on your radar, and
if you have already been shooting brand
62
:photography, I still want you to take it
because this quiz is going to tell you
63
:what type of brand photographer you are.
64
:Now I'm going to go into these
in other episodes, I'm dropping a
65
:bunch of episodes at once this week.
66
:So you can go ahead and binge them all.
67
:They're all going to be super
short, but the four different
68
:types of brand photographers.
69
:Our brand new photographers.
70
:So these people are maybe still
learning how to use their camera.
71
:They're very new to their photography
business, or they haven't been in
72
:business very long or maybe they
haven't started a business at all.
73
:They just want to go straight
to brand photography.
74
:The next type of photographer I see is
a dual positioned brand photographer.
75
:This is a photographer who is interested
in brand photography, but doesn't want
76
:to stop doing other types of photography.
77
:Then we have our exclusive
brand photographer.
78
:This photographer is ready to get
their nights and weekends back.
79
:They have no interest in continuing
to do portraits and weddings.
80
:They are all in on brand photography.
81
:And then we have our
elite brand photographer.
82
:Our elite brand photographer has maybe
booked a few brand sessions in the past.
83
:They've perhaps had some
success with brand photography.
84
:But they're also not totally
sold that their systems are what
85
:they need to be because they're
wanting to scale their business.
86
:The next thing that they're shooting for
is really like that six-figure photography
87
:business with brand photography.
88
:And they're not totally sure what a clear
path to that is, even though they have
89
:some experience with brand photography.
90
:You can find out what your type is when
you take the quiz maddie push on.com/quiz.
91
:I'm going to tell you what type
of brand photographer you are.
92
:And then I am going to give
you a crystal clear path.
93
:To what you need to be doing,
what you need to be working on.
94
:To be able to charge four figures
as April and photographer.
95
:I have worked with dozens of
photographers who want to pivot
96
:into personal brand photography.
97
:And this quiz is essentially my
findings from working with those people.
98
:Wireless Microphone RX-2:
I want you to go to Maddie.
99
:Dot com slash quiz and take the quiz.
100
:And then you can go ahead and
listen to the next four episodes.
101
:And those episodes are going to talk
more about each of the different types
102
:of brand photographers and what those
particular types of brand photographers
103
:should be doing should be working on
to be able to charge four figures for
104
:brand photography, to become known as
the brand photographer in your area.
105
:And scale your business to six
figures with brand photography.
