Senior horses can require extra consideration when trailering because age-related arthritis, reduced immune function, and difficulty regulating body temperature can increase travel risks. Before a long haul, discuss your horse’s health with your veterinarian, prioritize good ventilation and bedding, and offer familiar hay and water throughout the trip. In this Ask TheHorse Live excerpt Alex Bianco, DVM, Dipl. ACVIM, of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, in St. Paul, explains the unique trailering needs of senior horses.
