Shownotes

This week, Trisha steps back from a full episode to point you towards two conversations worth your time. She recently appeared as a guest on Victoria Rennoldson's Culture Cuppa podcast — and being on the other side of the microphone had her reflecting in ways she didn't quite expect. The episode, Leading Across Difference, is a candid conversation between two Cultural Intelligence (CQ) practitioners about the future of CQ and where hope lives within it.

Trisha also invites you to revisit Episode 28 with Sharon Gray — a Kamilaroi and Scottish woman whose wisdom is woven into the episode's very title. With National Reconciliation Week unfolding in Australia, there's no better moment to listen, or listen again.

Both links are in the show notes below.

Transcripts

Speaker:

I would like to acknowledge the Dharawal people, the Aboriginal people of Australia, whose country I live and work on. I would like to pay my respects to their elders, past, present, and emerging, and thank them for sharing their cultural knowledge and awareness with us.

Trisha:

Hi, everyone, and welcome back to The Shift. I'm Trisha Carter. This week's episode is a bit different. I had plans to sit down with, a good friend and great colleague, Mike, to record a conversation about music as shift. I was really excited about it, but I haven't been well this week, and you might hear that in my voice.

Trisha:

I didn't feel like I had the voice or the energy to give to what was something that was really exciting me. So I thought rather than push through, I would use this space to point you towards two things that I think, could be worth listening, and I'd really appreciate if you would listen to them. The first is a guest appearance I recently did with Victoria Rennoldson on her podcast, Culture Cuppa, and cuppa being the idea like you have a cup of tea.

Trisha:

So the idea you sit down and have a chat with someone. And that is what it felt like. It felt like having a bit of a chat with another person who is a cultural intelligence practitioner. She is a trainer and coach who uses cultural intelligence. And so we were able to chat about our work and to chat about...

Trisha:

Well, she asked me some questions that made me think, dear listeners. So to chat about what I thought the future was for cultural intelligence and, you know, where I saw hope, which is something I do try and come back to. And so it was, it was really fun. It had me reflecting in ways that I didn't necessarily expect, and it's a bit of a different angle from, some of the ways that I normally speak because somebody else was putting me under the microscope.

Trisha:

So the link is in the show notes, and I'd love if you could go and listen to it. It's called the Cultural Cuppa, and, the episode that I'm in is called Leading Across Difference. There's also another thing that I'd love you to listen to this week. It's to listen back to episode twenty-eight of this podcast.

Trisha:

That was my conversation with Sharon Gray. Sharon is a Kamilaroi and Scottish woman. The Kamilaroi people are Aboriginal Australians, indigenous to this country. The episode is called Winanga Guru: Listen Deeply, Go Slowly and Respect Everything. And that phrase, which comes from the Kamilaroi language, really does say everything about Sharon and what she brings to her work.

Trisha:

I'm recommending it now because we're in the middle of National Reconciliation Week in Australia, and so it feels especially worth revisiting at this time of year Both links are in the show notes. I hope you find something to make you think and maybe shift just a little. Take care of yourselves, don't get sick, and I'll be back soon with a full episode.

Trisha:

Thank you for being here, and I look forward to next time with a better voice on The Shift
