Shownotes

"As an iron hand in a velvet glove, so her inner strength is clothed by her dignity and grace."

This month, in conjunction with International Women’s Day, we are turning the spotlight on women and womanhood.

In this episode, Joanna Koh-Hoe, CEO of Focus on the Family Singapore, catches up with Cheryl Ng and her daughter, Darienne Sim about what it means to be a strong woman.

Believing that children are the future and family the nurturing ground, Cheryl dedicated the early part of her career to pursuing her childhood dream of teaching in junior colleges, before switching her attention to bringing up her own children.

Cheryl was appointed by the Minister as a steering committee member of the Parents Advisory Group for the Internet (PAGI) from 2000 to 2004, and thereafter served on the Publications Consultative Panel, followed by the Media Literacy Council. She continues to volunteer with the Films Consultative Panel of the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI).

To uphold the interests of children and families, Cheryl has discussed her work on internet safety in public seminars, radio talk shows and on TV. In fact, she was featured with her family in a television educational docu-drama.

Having been a full-time career woman, a full-time stay-home mum, and also a full-time working mum, Cheryl is determined that what the future holds is founded on what we now build. She is romantically married to Andy with four daughters, and she is also an involved grandparent. She brings to every speaking engagement deep insights mixed with strong passion.

Darienne currently studies English Literature at Nanyang Technological University and enjoys writing poetry. Her mum describes her as fun-loving and creative.
