It is probably not much of a stretch to say that every one of us has indulged in the sin of partiality at some point in our lives. Sure, we have reasons that justify our actions, but because we want to feel comfortable or don’t want to be angered or want to feel important at some time in our life, we have chosen to elevate a certain type of socio-economic group, race, or social status and exclude others. The Gospel has no room for partiality, regardless of our reasons. James speaks to this and calls Christ followers to give up the world's ways of seeing some as important and others as not. He calls us to live mercy, like we have received mercy, and to offer that to anyone and everyone who would cross our paths as our neighbor.
