Shownotes

In this episode, I'm breaking down the big question: Are there too many virtual assistants out there? Oddly enough I'm using a bread aisle analogy to share why the VA world is far from oversaturated. From niche services to the expanding demand in various industries, there is vast opportunity rather than competition. So, if you've been hesitant about starting a virtual assisting business or side hustle, I'm telling you, now is the perfect time to jump in.

Melyssa:

Hello, how the heck are you doing today?

Melyssa:

In the last episode, I talked about how I got my own three first VA clients,

Melyssa:

because it's a common question to ask.

Melyssa:

How do you find your clients as a VA?

Melyssa:

And another very popular question that comes up a lot is about the market

Melyssa:

for virtual assistance and whether there is an over-saturation in the

Melyssa:

online space of virtual assistants.

Melyssa:

Are there too many virtual assistants out there?

Melyssa:

And if I put my hat in the ring, so to speak, am I even going to be

Melyssa:

able to find clients because they already have VAs or there's already

Melyssa:

VA's out there marketing themselves.

Melyssa:

I am here to tell you that you do not need to worry about that.

Melyssa:

There is not an over-saturation of at virtual assistants online.

Melyssa:

It is an industry that is definitely growing.

Melyssa:

It's going to continue to grow as more and more businesses go digital, go online.

Melyssa:

There's just going to be an exponential need for more

Melyssa:

virtual assistants out there.

Melyssa:

I wanted to share one of my favorite responses to this

Melyssa:

question of over-saturation is.

Melyssa:

Go to the grocery store and walked on the bread aisle.

Melyssa:

It really is mind blowing.

Melyssa:

How many different types of something like bread there are.

Melyssa:

There is the super cheap bread.

Melyssa:

There's the white bread, the wheat bread, the bread that has

Melyssa:

special sprouts and nuts in it.

Melyssa:

There is bread that's, you know, for people with allergies.

Melyssa:

There is basically a bread for everybody.

Melyssa:

And you look at the prices too there's entry-level like super

Melyssa:

cheap, 99 cent loaf of bread.

Melyssa:

Then there are more expensive types of bread that have the

Melyssa:

additional things in there.

Melyssa:

I'm not going to turn this into an episode about bread.

Melyssa:

But really think about all the different kinds that are because there's so many

Melyssa:

different needs for the consumers.

Melyssa:

And so not everybody wants one single loaf of bread that's only plain wheat bread.

Melyssa:

And week after week, you go back to that store and the store maybe even

Melyssa:

has more different types of bread.

Melyssa:

They're definitely not decreasing the amount of options they're increasing.

Melyssa:

Maybe that's a really weird thing to think about, but in the online

Melyssa:

space, there are such a variation.

Melyssa:

And there's just such a need for all different kinds of VA's that I really

Melyssa:

don't want you to not get started because of your fear of there already

Melyssa:

being virtual assistants out there.

Melyssa:

Really being a virtual assistant, it's not about one single set of tasks.

Melyssa:

There are people who are virtual assistants who are general VAs.

Melyssa:

They kind of do all kinds of general administrative work.

Melyssa:

There are VAs that specialized in the tech side.

Melyssa:

There's VAs who may specialize just in email inbox management calendar

Melyssa:

management, funnels, a certain software there's VA's who just are specialized

Melyssa:

and experts in one type of software.

Melyssa:

There are VA's who are specialists in socials or something like Pinterest.

Melyssa:

There's all these different types of services and that's just a very

Melyssa:

short list of services, but there are so many services that you can

Melyssa:

provide as a virtual assistant.

Melyssa:

I preach time and time again, that becoming an expert and niching

Melyssa:

down into, a more narrow focus is what is going to make it much

Melyssa:

easier for clients to find you.

Melyssa:

In addition to all these different services, I just listed, think

Melyssa:

about it, the fact that there are so many industries that are looking

Melyssa:

for all of these kinds of VAs.

Melyssa:

So you may be someone who focuses just on supporting photographers.

Melyssa:

You could just support someone in the wellness industry.

Melyssa:

You can focus on women entrepreneurs, you could focus on, so many

Melyssa:

different aspects there are so many different things that you can do.

Melyssa:

Within this general umbrella of being a VA, there are

Melyssa:

really endless possibilities.

Melyssa:

And a lot of people don't even call it a VA.

Melyssa:

They may call themselves a funnel specialist they may call

Melyssa:

themselves a Pinterest strategist.

Melyssa:

It's semantics what you call yourself.

Melyssa:

But if you are providing a virtual service a virtual assisting type of service

Melyssa:

to another business, that's what I'm referring to when I say virtual assistant.

Melyssa:

Now there's a lot of industries that are continuing to grow

Melyssa:

and are starting to use VAs that didn't traditionally use them.

Melyssa:

Some examples are the customer service industry, healthcare finance, others

Melyssa:

like that are on the rise and they're looking for virtual assistance.

Melyssa:

In this post COVID world that we're in, a lot of people, are moving into the

Melyssa:

online and the digital space and they really want to streamline their work.

Melyssa:

They may have burnout and they're looking for ways to offload some of these tasks

Melyssa:

that you can help them with so that they can stay in their zone of genius.

Melyssa:

So it really is this industry that I don't see slowing down.

Melyssa:

. I think that it's just going to exponentially grow and I think it is

Melyssa:

a great time to jump in right now.

Melyssa:

I also want to mention this idea that there's already all

Melyssa:

these, VA's that are out there that are currently doing the work.

Melyssa:

I don't know about you, but something that works for someone

Melyssa:

doesn't necessarily work for me.

Melyssa:

If I want to go out and find some sort of, Mental health therapist, there's all kinds

Melyssa:

of therapists throughout my community.

Melyssa:

And not every one of those is right for me.

Melyssa:

And the one who may be right for me may not be right for you.

Melyssa:

Same thing with doctors, there's all kinds of doctors that then specialize in things.

Melyssa:

So if you have something going on with your ear, you're not going

Melyssa:

to go to a doctor who specializes in knees, you're going to go to

Melyssa:

a doctor that specializes in the exact thing that you want help with.

Melyssa:

And that's the same thing with the virtual assisting industry.

Melyssa:

People are looking for someone who can help them in the

Melyssa:

exact thing that they need.

Melyssa:

This was kind of a random episode where I talked about bread and

Melyssa:

virtual assisting and tied it all together hopefully for you.

Melyssa:

I hope that helps alleviate some of your fears that there are not too

Melyssa:

many virtual assistants out there.

Melyssa:

It is the perfect time for you to jump in right now, you really don't need to wait.

Melyssa:

You don't need to worry that there are too many virtual assistants out there.

Melyssa:

If you wanted to chat with me about how to narrow down who it is that

Melyssa:

you're going to help and what services you're going to be providing, I would

Melyssa:

be happy to chat with you about that.

Melyssa:

You can send me a DM I'm @melyssamunday or @ mamasmakingmore.com on Instagram.

I love the little voice messages.

Melyssa:

That's really all I have for this episode.

Melyssa:

I will catch you in the next one.
