Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Hi everyone.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

So it's this height of summer and it's time to relax, reflect and

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

catch up with yourself to take breaks from the routine of school and work.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Everyone knows summer feels different.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

People take family vacations.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Maybe you get summer Fridays.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Maybe you let yourself stay up a little later as the light

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

lingers in the sky longer.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Still when I thought about my podcasting schedule earlier this

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

year, I thought I would want to keep editing and releasing new podcasts

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

weekly all through the summer.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Almost like an analyst that pushes out weekly reports,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

you get used to this routine.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

So keeping up with it, shouldn't be a big deal.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Right?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

well, I was completely wrong.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I underestimated the amount of time and energy that summer schedules would

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

eat up from schlepping, the kids to activities with different start and

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

end times, unexpected summer colds and illness, family events, travel plans.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

All this time I used to spend recording, editing and promoting

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

that was already broken up between different demands, was now being

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

broken up into even smaller shards of.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I also dove into other pursuits in a fit of pre-summer productivity prompted

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

by the promise of a wide open summer.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

But suddenly several weeks later I realized I was stressed.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Like I needed a break from summer break and I suspect I'm not alone.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Either.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Several listeners who also happen to be friends will say things

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

like I have to catch up on the last few episodes or I'm behind.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I haven't had a chance to listen since school.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

It.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

so to honor the need for more space and less summertime stress, I've decided

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

to, re-release a few of the top episodes from the first season of know them.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Be them, raise them.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

For you long time and loyal listeners.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I suspect you may be grateful for the reminders, after all

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

repetition is key to learning.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Plus if you've been putting some of these ideas into practice,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

You'll find it rewarding to see what progress you've made.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

And for newer listeners, you may be hearing these fan

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

favorites for the first time.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I know it can be hard to dig into the back library of a podcast.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

So consider this my gift of serving up to you the best and brightest

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

from the last several months.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Whatever camp you fall into.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I'm so glad you're here.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

May you have a wonderful glorious middle of the summer, and I'll be

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

returning with new episodes for season two, which will launch in August.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Be them, raise them a show about raising tween and teen girls to help mindful

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

progressive growth oriented and busy moms stay informed and inspired so

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

they can show up for themselves and their daughters the way they want to.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I'm your host Carmelita too.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Today's article 10 important phrases parents can use to empower their daughter.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Comes from Wendy Snyder.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Wendy is a positive parenting teacher and family coach, helping families,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

parent with great purpose and intention by creating healthy, respectful,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

and cooperative relationships.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

She is a certified parent educator of redirecting children's behavior

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

or RCB and an advocate for families, a mother to two vibrant children.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Wendy has been dedicated to the application of positive

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

parenting in her home since 2009.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Wendy discovered the work of positive parenting when she was

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

challenged and overwhelmed with the many trials of parenthood early in

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

her motherhood experience through her company, fresh start family.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Wendy gives parents the support and tools.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

They need to raise their children with firmness, kindness, strong

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

limits, compassion, and empathy.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Here's her article.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Having daughters is such a beautiful combination of gifts and responsibilities.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

These incredible little women provide us with an opportunity to have the

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

deepest and truest feminine friendship for life and to gift the world

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

with the next generation of strong, compassionate, and driven female souls.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

But this takes work.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

There's no doubt about it.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Harmony between mothers and daughters and the ability to lead.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

And have them listen, doesn't just happen.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

It's a relationship that has to be created and nurtured.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Mutual respect can be taught from a young age, empowering both moms and daughters

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

to truly feel like they belong both in our relationship together and in the world.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Anchoring this sense of belonging for our girls is one of our most important jobs

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

as a parent teaching our daughters that they belong in a world that often fills

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

them with oppositional messages can be.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

So empowering them is key.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

When looking to build our girls up, commit to empowering them, to develop their

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

voice, believe in themselves, stand up for what they believe in lean into their

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

desire to feel powerful, love themselves, trust their gut, chase their dreams.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Be firm with their nose.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Be respectful and persistent in their stand against injustice.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Seek peace in the areas.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

They see a need, allow their emotions to guide them, trust their heart.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

That vulnerability is good.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Always believe in their innate goodness, allow empathy to guide

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

them, use their hearts, to freely give compassion and have confidence

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

that they can create any kind of life.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

They.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Consider using these phrases with your daughters to empower them to lean into

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

the strength, kindness, vision, and power.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

They each hold.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number one.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I love you.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

No matter what, take a break from be good today.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Or if you're good, you'll get extra hugs tonight.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Instead, for example, say, I want you to know that I love you no matter what

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

you will always and forever have my unconditional love no matter what.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Unconditional love is at the core of positive parenting and means that our

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

love for our kids does not depend on the level of good behavior they have

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

rooting our parenting in unconditional love is essential to building strong,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

confident girls, trust that your daughters are good all the time.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

No matter what mistakes they make or challenges they face each

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

day, feeding this truth into our girls, pours into their need to.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Which is a key motivating factor that Dr.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Rudolph Dreyer's grandfather of positive parenting helps us understand

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

is underneath kids' behaviors, remove conditions and lean into unconditional

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

love, even amidst, imperfection, and tough days, or stages of life.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number two, you are absolutely beautiful inside and out.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Take a break from you.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Look so pretty in that.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Instead say, I love you in that dress and you are absolutely

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

beautiful inside and out.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Your heart is just as pretty as your gown.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

The world will give our girls plenty of messages that their beauty is all about.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

What's on the outside.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

So let's be sure to remind them often how true beauty comes from within

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

confidence, kindness, optimism, compassion, these traits, radiate beauty

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

from the heart in the most powerful.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

show your girls female role models, such as Malala, Bethany, Hamilton, and

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

the 2018 Olympic women's hockey team.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

And explain how each of these women represents deep beauty.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number three, you are strong, and you've got this.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I'm here to support you.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Take a break from I'll talk to that.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Girl's mom.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

It's not okay for her to treat you like that.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Instead, for example, say, it sounds like you don't like the way

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

your classmate is treating you.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

How will you let her know that you'd like her to be kind to you?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

You're strong and you've got this, I'm here to support you in order

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

for our girls to feel empowered, to solve their own problems.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

It's essential that we let them try resist the urge to do it for them, rescue them,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

or always give the answer, allow them to be stretched so that they can find courage

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

and seek to use that courage in their.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Support them by being by their side, but allow them to use

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

their voice for peaceful conflict resolution and to initiate change.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number four.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

How do you feel take a break from, oh, don't cry.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

It's okay, honey, don't worry about it.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Everything's fine.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Instead.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Say, how did you feel when that happened or I can see your brother has upset you.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

How are you feeling and how will you take care of yourself to feel better?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Feeling and processing emotions fully is essential for our girls to

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

develop emotional strength as parents.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

It's important to know that emotions are neither right, nor wrong.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

They just are teacher girls that emotions are good.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

And that identifying how they're feeling will help them take action

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

to feel better communicating that emotion such as sadness.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Anger and hurt, contribute to the wholeness of life is important to help

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

our daughters embrace all emotions, resist the urge to fix when guiding

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

your girls and expect some level of messiness lean into the power

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

of listening, which will guide your daughters to find their own solutions.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number five.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Gosh, I love my fill in the name of the body part.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

What's your favorite part of your body?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Take a break from, Ugh, this stomach.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I need to lose some weight instead, say, gosh, I love my strong legs

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

and how they were formed from my 15 years of springboard diving.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

They're my favorite part of my body.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

What's your favorite part of your body and why do you love it?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

teaching our girls to focus on one thing they love about their bodies.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Instead of telling them they need to love.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Every inch of themselves takes the pressure off.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Having a quote unquote perfect body image, allow your daughters

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

to express negative emotions about their bodies and resist the urge to

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

make them wrong for their feelings.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Instead, guide them to find one thing they love and empower them to

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

put that at the top of their mind.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number six oh.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Tell me more, take a break from you should do this, or,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

well, no wonder that happened.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

You shouldn't have fill in the blank instead, say, oh yeah.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Tell me more.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

How did you feel?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

What happened?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

What did you do when the teacher said that I'm here to listen,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

developing a strong ability to listen intently to our daughters,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

empowers them to find and use their.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

It also allows them to express themselves freely and fully instead

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

of being interrupted or rescued.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

When our daughters know they have a parent who will listen without always

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

trying to fix them, they'll open up more, learn to trust their voice, express their

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

feelings and communicate effectively, both with us and in the world.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number seven, how can you be a light in this situation?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Take a break from stop being mean.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I refuse to raise a mean.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

for example, say friendships with other girls can be really challenging.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

How can you be a light in this situation and use your

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

kindness to solve the problem?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Girl, relationships can get sticky and messy.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Take a break from using the term mean, and instead, fill your daughter with the truth

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

about who she really is kind good, loving, funny, resourceful, creative, caring, and.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

guide her to see creative ways to use those strengths, to solve problems

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

with her friends, her classmates siblings, and you supplementing this

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

phrase with a lesson on peaceful problem solving is always a great idea.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Teach kids to take turns using a win-win exercise.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Like I feel fill in the blank and I want fill in the blank.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number eight, you have a strong desire to feel powerful and that's good.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Take a break from don't be so bossy.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

No one likes a bossy girl, or why can't you just listen,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

you always push back on rules.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

What's wrong with you.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Instead say you are gifted with a strong desire to feel powerful, and

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

that will make you an incredible leader.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

You need to practice expressing yourself with respect though.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

So let's try that again.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Or.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

You have a strong desire to be in charge and that's a gift.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Can you try asking your friends to play the game your way, instead

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

of telling them what to do?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Cheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer of Facebook writes in her book lean in.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I want every girl who's told she's bossy to be told instead

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

that she has leadership skills.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

What a gift it would be to mentor our daughters on how to see this need.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

They have to seek power.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

As good instead of something that makes them unattractive or bad,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

encourage your daughters to find ways to feel powerful in respectful

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

ways and how to lead with integrity.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number nine, how will you be the change you want to see?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Take a break from stop complaining about it.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

It'll never change, or those girls are mean don't be friends with.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

instead, you could say, I can see that you don't like the way these kids are acting.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

How will you be the change you wish to see?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

How can you respond to them in a way that you want them to follow suit?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Empowering our daughters on how to influence others with integrity,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

fills them with the capability to create positive change in their

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

peer groups, schools, community, and even their own families.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Teaching our girls, how to continue acting with kindness, compassion, self-confidence

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

grit, determination, and respect.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Even when others aren't helps to develop strong character and high self-esteem.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number 10, I am not okay with fill in the blank or I'd like you to fill

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

in the blank, take a break from you.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Need to stop that, or you should listen more to what I.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

instead, for example, say I'm not okay with you using your hands to

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

solve problems with your brother.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I need you to take a pause, then use words to peacefully, resolve your problem

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

with him using I statements and taking responsibility for our own emotions and

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

desires teaches our girls to do the same.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

It also mentors our daughters to ask for what they want versus telling people

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

what they don't want, which increases the rate at which others cooperate with them.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Raising daughters who use I statements to own their choices, wishes, dreams,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

and goals helps to create a future generation of women who blame others

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

less and take control to create the life they want instead of waiting

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

for others or outside circumstances to provide the way there are so many

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

good recommendations in this article.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I feel the need to recap them right away.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

So the 10 phrases are number one.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I love you.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

No matter what, number two, you are absolutely beautiful inside and out.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number three, you are strong and you've got this.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I'm here to support you.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number four, how do you feel?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number five.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Gosh, I love.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

And then name the body part, your own body part.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

What's your favorite part of your body?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number six.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Oh yeah.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Tell me more.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

number seven.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

How can you be a light in this situation?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number eight, you have a strong desire to feel powerful.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

And that's good.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Number nine.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

How will you be the change you want to see?

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

And 10, I am not okay with fill in the blank or I'd like you to fill

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

in the blank using I statements.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

all of these resonated on some level either I've lived through situations

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

or there've been other episodes where we've discussed particular aspects.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

The three that particularly resonated are, gosh, I love my

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

legs or, gosh, I love my, my hands.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I, I hadn't really thought about.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

How trying to speak in generalizations about you should love your body,

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

may overemphasize this desire to be perfect and maybe set them up for

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

unrealistic expectations, which then creates some dissonance with, with

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

the emotions they actually feel.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

So I, I remember reading this at one point and saying to myself, I'm gonna talk more

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

about like how strong my, my legs are.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Especially after working out, you feel just super amped.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

But where I fell short is asking them what their favorite part of their body is.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Uh, and getting that dialogue in place is important as well.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

The other one, you have a strong desire to feel powerful and that's good.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I don't think I've ever spoken that in such a direct way.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I certainly encouraged my girls to speak up and to share their

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

opinions, but in moments when it does start to border on perhaps.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

And a level of assertiveness that I might not be totally comfortable

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

with acknowledging that in that moment, it's not all bad that the

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

desire to feel powerful is good.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

That is a perspective shift for me.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

And I'm definitely gonna sit with that and process it a bit to see

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

how I can incorporate that more.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I also loved number 10.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I am not okay with that.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

Or I'd like you to fill in the blank, whatever it is that, that you want.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I know that.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

My daughters and I are good at articulating what it is that we'd

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

like to see work out differently.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I'm just not sure how often I encourage them to say, I'm not

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

okay with that versus making it this impartial third party thing.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

That's not fair.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

That is wrong versus I am not okay with that.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

It's kind of a nuance that I will be more conscious about.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

And I like Wendy's encouragement saying how daughters who use I statements to own

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

their choices, et cetera, end up blaming others less and taking more control of

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

creating the life they want instead of waiting for others to step in or waiting

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

for the circumstances to magically align.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I hadn't really thought about how the words they use and I statements

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

could really help put that into play.

Carmelita (Cat) Tiu, Host:

I hope you're excited to talk to your daughter and use these
