Charles Condomine just can't seem to find the inspiration to write a screenplay based off of his best selling novel and his behavior is driving his wife, Ruth, crazy. When the two take a night out to see a mystic show, the spark finally comes. Mr. Condomine invites the the disgraced medium Madame Arcati to his home hoping to glean more information about the supernatural for his screenplay. The night takes a notable turn in events when Mr. Condomine's first wife Elvira is summoned back from the dead. Charles has his muse once again, but Elvira brings much more than inspiration.
