This happiness hack is all about self-compassion.

This might be surprising for some or not some of our stress is due to the silent conversations we have with ourselves on a daily basis, and psychologists call this self talk or inner voice.

One of the reasons why our inner voice might be negative and harsh is that we tend to use words like extremely, incredibly, always or never to fuel our negative self-image. “I never get this right” is much more hurtful to our self-image than “I haven’t managed to do it right this time”.

To counter some of those negative, exaggerated statements is to counter them with positive statements about ourselves.

So in this happiness hack; I encourage you to start a feel good document, notebook or folder where you note down at least 3 compliments a week that you give yourself to recognise and appreciate your own contributions and make note/store any positive feedback you received from others.

My feel good folder lives in my Outlook and stores emails from others about my strengths and also emails to myself making a note of things that I am particularly proud of. On the days that I need a positive boost to my inner voice and to help me to show myself some self-compassion, I refer to the folder for a quick look.

Thank you for listening to the Happiness Reset Campaign, I hope this happiness hack is useful and impactful. If you are up for exploring the topic of inner voice and self-compassion, listen to episode Episode 61: What’s your inner Voice and episode 58: how to be kind to yourself when you make a mistake
