Selena's Hashimoto's Journey: Personalized Functional Medicine & Mold Remediation

In this episode of the Thyroid Strong Podcast, Dr. Emily Kiberd, chiropractor and functional medicine practitioner, interviews her powerhouse client Selena, who had been battling Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Initially skeptical, Selena shares her challenging journey through conventional and functional medicine, detailing her struggles with brain fog, fatigue, and weight loss resistance.

They discuss the personalized approach Dr. Kiberd provided, focusing on gut health, toxic load, and mold remediation, and customized lifestyle adjustments. For Selena, She was already doing all the things, including lifting weights, hitting her steps, and eating protein, but something was missing. She had already gone through multiple gut and mold protocols, but wasn't feeling better. In this episode, we talk about what we did differently on a very granular level and how we didn't work harder, we worked smarter together. We talk about the importance of personalized care, the order of operations in which we address root causes, and Selena's transformative six-month experience, which improved her energy levels and helped her lose 10 lbs.

Speaker:

Hi, ladies.

2

:

Welcome to Thyroid Strong Podcast.

3

:

This is your host, Dr.

4

:

Emily Ki Bird.

5

:

I'm a chiropractor of 20 years functional

medicine practitioner, and I help the

6

:

Hashi ladies feel strong, resilient,

robust, and feel like you again.

7

:

I have a very special guest on today.

8

:

Her name's Selena, and she is a client

that I worked with for six months.

9

:

And when she first came to

me, she was super skeptical.

10

:

She's like, M, I've done the gut

healing protocol, I've done the

11

:

mold protocol and it didn't work.

12

:

I've done it all.

13

:

I work out.

14

:

I eat protein, I hit my steps,

I've done all the things, and

15

:

what can you do differently?

16

:

And so in this episode.

17

:

We talk on a very granular level

of what we did differently, how

18

:

we helped get rid of her brain

fog, gave her her energy back.

19

:

She no longer crashes at 2:00

PM and she's lost 10 pounds.

20

:

I thought it was really important

for women to hear Selena's

21

:

journey because a lot of women

with Hashimoto's are struggling.

22

:

They're like, I'm doing all the

things and I don't feel better.

23

:

I've seen multiple practitioners,

whether they're a conventional doc,

24

:

my endocrinologist, maybe multiple

functional medicine doctors, and I

25

:

kind of feel like a dumpster fire, and

so I wanted to share Selena's journey

26

:

and her transformation from her words.

27

:

she's an amazing woman, a

powerhouse, and super entertaining.

28

:

So ladies, let's dive in.

29

:

emily: Selena, welcome to

Thyroid Strong podcast.

30

:

I'm so excited to have you here.

31

:

We have known each other what

feels like a lifetime, but it's

32

:

actually only six months, right?

33

:

True, true.

34

:

And.

35

:

I remember when we first jumped on

a call and it was just like a call

36

:

to like, you know, you feel me out?

37

:

And me be like, okay, can I help you?

38

:

You're like, I've done all that.

39

:

Like we were talking about gut stuff

and you're like, Nope, done it.

40

:

I was like, well, maybe it's mold,

you know, fatigue, brain fog.

41

:

You're like done it can you share, like

if you kind of put yourself back to six

42

:

months ago, like beginning of 2025, like

what were you really struggling with?

43

:

And I know you felt stuck

and where did you feel stuck?

44

:

So what were you struggling with

and what were you stuck with?

45

:

selena: Yeah, so I mean, I feel like

my journey was several years in the

46

:

making, so I have tried everything.

47

:

I was like, okay, it's my food, it's my.

48

:

exercise.

49

:

I didn't really put myself into

the position that could be anything

50

:

else besides those two things.

51

:

For some reason, I don't know why.

52

:

Um, but for, well, let's talk about why.

53

:

emily: Yeah.

54

:

selena: Because you have a

55

:

emily: background of personal

training and nutrition.

56

:

Yes.

57

:

Yeah.

58

:

Why exactly.

59

:

selena: Right?

60

:

And, and in my mind, like that

was always the thing, right?

61

:

What you put in your body is

what's going to be important.

62

:

So in my mind, if I ate

healthy and I exercise.

63

:

That I would, you know,

stay thin and be healthy.

64

:

And so when I started, losing my hair

and started not having energy and

65

:

started not sleeping and just feeling

terrible, I was like, what's happening?

66

:

I didn't know.

67

:

So I, I start with your

typical doctor, right?

68

:

Your western medicine doctor that I go to.

69

:

And I said, something's wrong.

70

:

I don't know what's going on.

71

:

I thought maybe I was going

through pre menopause.

72

:

And she's like, oh, you

have a thyroid issue.

73

:

And I was like, oh,

well what, what's that?

74

:

And I have no idea what that

means or what, what that entails.

75

:

And you know, so I try to do my

research, which by the way is horrendous

76

:

Out there.

77

:

It's every website, every,

everything says something different.

78

:

Don't eat this, eat this,

go do this, don't do this.

79

:

I, you know, I had no idea what to do.

80

:

Uh, so, you know, they said,

go to an endocrinologist.

81

:

And I was like, okay.

82

:

So I look up this

endocrinologist, which had one.

83

:

Star and they're like, well, you

could, you could go to him, but you

84

:

know, they're really probably just,

they're not gonna do anything for you

85

:

'cause your thyroid's not bad enough.

86

:

they're probably not gonna do anything.

87

:

And I was like, well, this is amazing.

88

:

So I was like, okay, so I'm

gonna go somewhere else.

89

:

I'm gonna figure this out.

90

:

So I decided to find a functional

doctor, and I'm gonna go to

91

:

this functional doctor and.

92

:

You know, they're like,

93

:

Three reasons, right, three reasons why

you would have a thyroid issue, Which

94

:

is your gut, your toxins and mold.

95

:

And so we go through it and they,

they're like, okay, we're gonna, we're

96

:

gonna fix your gut, we're gonna do that.

97

:

I'm like, okay, let's do it.

98

:

Right?

99

:

So I take all these supplements,

all these medicines for three months

100

:

and my antibody skyrocket, like

skyrocket after the gut protocol.

101

:

So can

102

:

emily: we, okay.

103

:

Let's just first applaud that

you are such a go-getter.

104

:

Like you're just like, I'm gonna

research not many people have

105

:

the energy to do that, right?

106

:

So let's just applaud that.

107

:

And then secondly, you were

told you had a gut issue.

108

:

And I remember getting on the call and I

was like, oh, well what test did you do?

109

:

You're like, what?

110

:

What test?

111

:

What test am I supposed to do?

112

:

Whatcha talking about?

113

:

And I was like, oh wait, they said you had

a gut issue, but what was the gut issue?

114

:

selena: Yeah.

115

:

I mean, yes, the test that they ran.

116

:

So they did say I had candida, so

that was something they did say I

117

:

had, so we did the, this candida

118

:

Protocol.

119

:

emily: Right.

120

:

selena: That's kind of what it was.

121

:

Um, yeah.

122

:

That we started with

and that, and it didn't.

123

:

It did.

124

:

Uh, yes.

125

:

My gut got, like, in general,

my gut got better, right?

126

:

Yeah.

127

:

Yeah.

128

:

'cause it should, I hope.

129

:

Right?

130

:

But my thyroid didn't get better.

131

:

I, I still, nothing changed, right?

132

:

Nothing changed.

133

:

And so I'm like, okay, I'm gonna,

you know, I'm gonna hire somebody

134

:

to do an exercise program.

135

:

I'm gonna hire somebody.

136

:

I'm gonna hire a nutritionist.

137

:

I even hired a nutritionist.

138

:

I dunno if I told you that I did.

139

:

I hired a nutritionist.

140

:

Oh, I didn't

141

:

emily: know that.

142

:

selena: Yes.

143

:

I hired a nutritionist and I put

in my, all my stuff, what I ate,

144

:

how I ate, did all this stuff.

145

:

And she goes, Selena,

there's something wrong.

146

:

Like, there's something wrong with you.

147

:

Like, there I can't,

there's nothing I can fix.

148

:

You have to go, you have to go somewhere.

149

:

So that's kind of really, that's

what really pushed me, right?

150

:

To go to this functional doctor.

151

:

So anyways, nothing's

working and I'm like.

152

:

And going through this, it's been

a year at this functional doctor,

153

:

and I've done a gut protocol.

154

:

I did do a toxin protocol.

155

:

but they're not finding

what the problem is.

156

:

There's, they don't know what it is.

157

:

They're like, I don't, we don't know.

158

:

We're just gonna try this.

159

:

They put me on thyroid medicine

and let's just see what happens.

160

:

And nothing is changing.

161

:

And I'm getting frustrated

and I don't know what to do.

162

:

And I, see all these things on Facebook

and I run across you, of course.

163

:

And I was like, I go, okay,

so she's a thyroid specialist.

164

:

She's okay.

165

:

She knows, okay, I'm

just, I'm gonna reach out.

166

:

I'm gonna see what I'm gonna see.

167

:

Right?

168

:

And that's where we had that call.

169

:

and I explained all this stuff to you,

and you're like, I, I will fight for you.

170

:

I will do whatever it takes.

171

:

I will dig, I will dig, I'll dig.

172

:

And I was like, okay, I love her.

173

:

We're doing this.

174

:

You know?

175

:

So to me I was like, yes,

we're gonna dig into this.

176

:

We're gonna figure this out.

177

:

And you know, so that's, I think

where my journey started, right?

178

:

And, and I was like so excited to

just dig and figure, I knew that

179

:

you would find this, I'd find you'd

find this stuff for me, and we would

180

:

figure this out through all this.

181

:

You know, digging.

182

:

Yeah.

183

:

Which did, right.

184

:

emily: So yeah.

185

:

I think a lot of women have a

very similar journey, right?

186

:

So for people listening, all

their energy, like how exhausting

187

:

all our energy is, reading and

listening and Instagram reels and.

188

:

what if we just took all that energy

to executing on a plan that's custom

189

:

for you, that's gonna work, right?

190

:

like 70% of your day, you're just

like, okay, I'm just gonna like

191

:

do what I'm supposed to be doing.

192

:

So I think what is really

interesting about your journey

193

:

is a lot of the stuff that we did

feels like you had already done.

194

:

But it wasn't very specific and

personalized when you first did it.

195

:

Right?

196

:

So like had gut issues and we also

uncovered gut issues, but it was like,

197

:

okay, this is the order that we do it in.

198

:

These are the very specific

things that we're gonna address.

199

:

You had done a mold protocol.

200

:

You remember when I asked you, I go,

well, where were you getting exposed a

201

:

selena: rice?

202

:

emily: And you're like, I don't know.

203

:

I just did the protocol.

204

:

I did what I was told.

205

:

Like, 'cause you're such a good researcher

and you're so good at execution.

206

:

you of the many people I work

with, I'm like Selena, you

207

:

gotta do this and you are.

208

:

I did it yesterday, you know?

209

:

Right, right.

210

:

Exactly.

211

:

Yes.

212

:

I will do whatever.

213

:

Just tell me what to do and I'll do it.

214

:

Yeah.

215

:

You're so good at execution.

216

:

so even though you had addressed root

causes, you had addressed it like

217

:

80%, but it wasn't done in a very.

218

:

Thorough way is what I felt.

219

:

I don't know how you felt about that.

220

:

selena: Yeah, no, I a hundred

percent agree with you.

221

:

and I think that is the problem when you

go to a big doctor's office, regardless

222

:

if it's a functional office or not,

is they're taught to do your typical

223

:

whatever they do for everybody, right?

224

:

You have a mold issue, you do this,

you have a gut issue, you do this.

225

:

But nobody's really looking at

my lab specifically and saying,

226

:

Selena, this is the issues.

227

:

And I think that's definitely

what you helped with, was

228

:

understanding for me personally,

what I needed to do and change.

229

:

And that significantly helped.

230

:

emily: Can you, Give us just like

a little glimpse into this mold

231

:

journey that we went on together,

because I know your husband was like,

232

:

who is this person and why is she

saying we have mold in the house?

233

:

selena: Yes.

234

:

So this came up actually from the

other functional doctor where they said

235

:

like, do you have, do you, is there a

possibility you have mold in the house?

236

:

I was like, no.

237

:

No, I don't have mold in my house, you

know, so I, I, I literally, I did ask

238

:

my husband though, I was like, so do you

think I, we possibly would have mold?

239

:

He's like, no, we don't

have mold in the house.

240

:

I was like, okay, no, we do not have

mold in the house, so let that go.

241

:

Right.

242

:

You know, and then of course a year

later I meet Emily and it's like, are you

243

:

sure you don't have mold in the house?

244

:

I'm like, I'm pretty sure I

don't have mold in the house.

245

:

She's like, mom, let's just test.

246

:

Let's just test anyway.

247

:

I'm like, okay, sure.

248

:

Let's test right off the charts.

249

:

Oh my gosh, I about died.

250

:

I was like, are you kidding me?

251

:

So I, I literally look at my husband,

I go, we have mold in the house.

252

:

And he is like, there's no way.

253

:

And I was like, he's like, I

don't know who this doctor is.

254

:

I think your doctor's crazy.

255

:

And I go, do you want to look at my

test results where my blood actually

256

:

shows that there's mold in my blood?

257

:

Do you wanna see this?

258

:

Like, so he did not, the

body doesn't lie, right?

259

:

I was like, no, there's something wrong.

260

:

and I think part of it

too is the stress of like.

261

:

How much is this gonna cost?

262

:

Right?

263

:

Like cost is always a huge factor.

264

:

Totally right?

265

:

Totally.

266

:

So freaking out.

267

:

so I go and I call these people and

luckily for me, I did have somebody who

268

:

went on this journey as well at my gym.

269

:

So she had the same issues, thyroid

issues, like adrenal, all the same stuff.

270

:

And luckily she had had worked with

somebody in the past, so luckily

271

:

I was able to call them in and it

was like, somebody who came in, I

272

:

inspect her and went through the whole

house and sure enough, here we go.

273

:

Yep.

274

:

Mold in the basement.

275

:

So I.

276

:

the biggest, it's funny, we would,

something we never would've caught

277

:

because we were pretty good.

278

:

We've had floods in the basement before

where we've, taken out the walls,

279

:

ripped up carpet, did all that stuff.

280

:

the mold was in the basement.

281

:

Bathroom toilet under tile,

282

:

emily: Who installed that toilet?

283

:

Yeah, I know.

284

:

My

285

:

selena: husband installed the

toilet, he was pretty upset about it.

286

:

And it's funny we talked about it later

because he is like, I feel horrible.

287

:

And I go, babe, I would've had you, I

install the toilet anyway, like it's.

288

:

Not something we would've figured

we'd have known, you know?

289

:

Yeah.

290

:

And the tile, it doesn't

buckle under tile.

291

:

Right?

292

:

So that's something you don't see.

293

:

So again, one of those things like what

you don't see doesn't mean it's not there.

294

:

we even talked about this, you're

like, make sure they look behind the

295

:

walls and and now I get it because.

296

:

Again, it's one of those things

you would've never known,

297

:

and we had no signs of it.

298

:

And so this mold had been growing

under this toilet probably for 15

299

:

years since we built this basement.

300

:

it had filtered through, the vents

and went all through the house.

301

:

And so that's where we had, and it wasn't

a lot in, and the spores were not a

302

:

ton in the first and second levels, but

it like, that's where it stemmed from

303

:

was the basement that was the concern.

304

:

So yep, we did, we had tons of

mold in there, so we had to reme

305

:

remediate, like the basement

rip out in the entire, bathroom.

306

:

We had to pull all the carpet up.

307

:

and while we were doing that,

any, anywhere we had a leak,

308

:

I had them clean, right?

309

:

So we had some leaks in the.

310

:

In the kitchen at one point in time.

311

:

So I had him open up that and clean it

out and, 'cause you never know, you know

312

:

you, so my biggest advice anybody is if

you ever have a leak anywhere, you need

313

:

to rip the wall out and let it air out

and clean it, it was definitely a process

314

:

and we finally, got it all fixed up.

315

:

But yeah, that was quite

interesting, the mold thing.

316

:

So who would've thought, right?

317

:

Fix the gut, fix the

toxins, who I would've never

318

:

guessed mold and Sure stuff.

319

:

It was definitely mold.

320

:

emily: Yeah.

321

:

And I think for you, you

are very high functioning.

322

:

You're go-getter, you work hard.

323

:

You're not someone who's

like, I can't function.

324

:

I have so much fatigue and brain fog.

325

:

there was fatigue and brain fog,

but you are such a high functioning,

326

:

powerful woman that you're not,

debilitated to the point where like,

327

:

oh my God, something's so wrong.

328

:

I gotta check the house.

329

:

So I really love to make the

process when I work with clients.

330

:

they're held through the process.

331

:

Right, right.

332

:

Because sometimes we'll see our doctors,

they're like, see you in three months.

333

:

And I'm like, but what if I

need something before then?

334

:

Right.

335

:

You know what I mean?

336

:

And so, can you just describe what

it looks like, To work with someone

337

:

where it's like, Hey, I can message

you anytime and be like, Hey,

338

:

glutathione is making me not feel good.

339

:

And then I'm gonna be

like, okay, I'm not Selena.

340

:

Don't take it like that.

341

:

Versus like maybe more go

to the doctor's office.

342

:

selena: I mean, with my functional

doctor, it was, yeah, you go once you

343

:

get all your labs and they're like,

okay, well see you in three months.

344

:

That's it.

345

:

Like, here's your protocol,

here's your gut stuff.

346

:

If there's issues, there's no handholding,

there's no messaging, there's no calling.

347

:

It's, you know, it's like

your typical doctor's office.

348

:

Like yes, they're functional, so

they're thinking outside the box

349

:

versus your western medicine person.

350

:

But there's definitely no handholding

and there's no additional help.

351

:

Right.

352

:

And again, to the personalization,

there is no personalization.

353

:

I love the fact that, yeah, I, I mean, I.

354

:

Still to this day, don't wanna give

you up because I love that I can

355

:

chat with you at any time, right?

356

:

Like anytime I needed you, if I

had questions about something even

357

:

non-related to maybe what you're giving

me, maybe it was a question related

358

:

to something else, like you were

always there to assist and help me.

359

:

Love the fact that I could

just chat at any point in time.

360

:

I definitely prefer the personalization

in that regard, and it scares me

361

:

to even not have you because I know

that it's gonna be the same thing.

362

:

You know, it's, I'm back to like

trusting this person that I don't

363

:

know if they really care about me.

364

:

they're, I'm one of their

a hundred patients, right?

365

:

I'm one of a few patients with you, and

I can chat you and talk to you at any

366

:

point in time and, they are specialty,

but they don't have the time for me.

367

:

and that's that difference in

personalization where you have somebody

368

:

who is looking at your labs every, every

day looking at you as a person every

369

:

day, knowing what you do in and out.

370

:

nobody asks me like, how mu

how many times do I work out?

371

:

They don't ask what kind of food I eat.

372

:

They don't care.

373

:

They're, they're just, they're looking

at the lab saying, fix it, having that

374

:

personalization is, is huge and very

important, especially going through like a

375

:

thyroid issue like this when you're trying

to figure out an autoimmune disease.

376

:

'cause it's curable, it is right there.

377

:

It's curable.

378

:

There are reasons that you have it.

379

:

And anybody that I talk to that

has a thyroid issue, I'm like.

380

:

There's a reason you have it.

381

:

This is not forever.

382

:

You can fix it.

383

:

Go see somebody that can fix this for you.

384

:

You need to dig and figure it out.

385

:

And having that person, like

you to help with that is huge.

386

:

And I would absolutely recommend anybody,

anybody I know that has it, I would

387

:

recommend to you a hundred percent.

388

:

emily: Yeah.

389

:

And oftentimes people are chasing

thyroid, but it's not the thyroid, it's

390

:

something else secondary affecting it.

391

:

Yeah, exactly.

392

:

You being so high

functioning and powerhouse.

393

:

For me was actually hard to tap into.

394

:

I'm like, how is she actually doing?

395

:

Because I'd be like,

Selena, how you doing?

396

:

She's like, I'm fine, I'm fine.

397

:

And I'm like, you're literally living in

a house going through mold remediation.

398

:

You're like, I'm fine.

399

:

I did feel fine.

400

:

No kidding.

401

:

I know.

402

:

In my mind

403

:

selena: I was fine.

404

:

emily: And just knowing

your cortisol curve, right?

405

:

you having trained for so long and

lifted heavy and Calculated calories

406

:

and really follow things to a T.

407

:

What I find in women who are just

like, they have the capacity they're

408

:

like, yeah, your plate's full.

409

:

Put it on mine.

410

:

I had like, I can take it like, and

I'm gonna like hold the space, is that

411

:

oftentimes they have adrenal burnout

or like cortisol issues and so a lot of

412

:

our work together was like, how can we.

413

:

Regulate the cortisol.

414

:

Right.

415

:

Take some of the stress off.

416

:

I remember you're like, I

went to yoga and I hated it.

417

:

selena: Yeah.

418

:

I do hate yoga because it's so boring.

419

:

It's boring.

420

:

I cannot sit in one spot for that long

421

:

emily: what does Selena need?

422

:

Like it's gonna be so much like I have

clients, they can't get off the couch.

423

:

I'm like, girl, get, let's get lifting.

424

:

Yeah.

425

:

But was actually the opposite.

426

:

It was like, okay, let's

bring the nervous system down.

427

:

after six months, if you look back

at the things that you're originally

428

:

struggling with, which was like

getting a handle on my Hashimoto's,

429

:

fatigue was part of the picture.

430

:

A little bit of brain fog.

431

:

I look back and I'm like, wow,

she made leaps and bounds.

432

:

But I'm just wondering

from your perspective.

433

:

selena: Oh yeah, a hundred percent.

434

:

And one thing I will say you did

great on is knowing that I'm a

435

:

powerhouse and that I like to do stuff.

436

:

It wasn't like you're, you didn't

say sit on the south end, do nothing.

437

:

Right.

438

:

Like you worked with.

439

:

What you knew I was gonna need.

440

:

Right?

441

:

So it was like, okay, well

instead of working out five days

442

:

a week, let's work out two days

a week and do full body, right?

443

:

So it made me feel better knowing that I

could still do what I love doing without

444

:

it detrimenting who I am as a person.

445

:

I think a big piece of that was the little

things, Getting up and taking a walk first

446

:

thing in the morning, We talked about that

as, these are some of the things that I

447

:

want you to do to help your cortisol, Get

up, eat your protein, and go for a walk.

448

:

And that's exactly what I did.

449

:

Within 30 minutes, I was up, I made

a protein shake and I was walking my

450

:

dog for 30 minutes, drinking my shake.

451

:

I feel like that really did make a big

difference, but it wasn't, and then

452

:

I still could do my workouts right?

453

:

I could still do that.

454

:

So it was helpful.

455

:

And then even like at night, right?

456

:

The red light glasses, like huge help too.

457

:

Love that as well.

458

:

coming from before, when I felt so

terrible and was doing all that stuff

459

:

to now, it, it's such a big difference.

460

:

Like my habits, everything

that I do is different.

461

:

The way I think of my body

and what I should be doing to

462

:

take care of it is different.

463

:

it's not so I have to do

this, this, and this and this.

464

:

It's, do the things that you should

do that's good for your body.

465

:

Instead of being that person that

was like going through the motions

466

:

of every day and being tired.

467

:

So I'd focused on myself as a person

and getting up and walking and, wearing

468

:

my red light glasses at night and

eating my 30 grams of protein a day.

469

:

I feel is tremendously better.

470

:

I do find that I wake up and

I'm have more energy now.

471

:

My cortisol levels are

definitely getting better.

472

:

I'm sleeping now, so I'm sleeping

at night, which is great.

473

:

I don't feel like I need a nap at

two o'clock anymore, which is great.

474

:

so I do feel tremendously

better, a hundred percent.

475

:

I think just ironing out and, and

after that mold protocol, since it's.

476

:

Just happened, just like finding

my new rhythm, you know, and

477

:

doing the right things, I think is

gonna make a world of difference.

478

:

But I feel like so much better

and, feel like I'm, I'm on

479

:

the road to recovery, right?

480

:

So I do feel like

there's something inside.

481

:

I've done the right things.

482

:

I know what to do now and I know how

to manage myself, which is great.

483

:

Yeah.

484

:

Can we talk about peptides?

485

:

emily: Yes.

486

:

I don't direct.

487

:

Every client to peptides.

488

:

I think it's for the right person

who's already doing the things

489

:

to maintain their muscle, right?

490

:

if someone's not hitting the protein,

are we gonna talk about something

491

:

that's gonna help them lose weight,

which would potentially help,

492

:

would make them lose more muscle?

493

:

But I think for you it was this is

a really powerful tool that can move

494

:

the needle and walk you to your goals.

495

:

we had talked about Hey, should

you try some GLP one Tirzepatide?

496

:

In a microdosed fashion,

starting low titrating up.

497

:

To help decrease inflammation and

help move the needle on weight loss.

498

:

I know you were very resistant at

first because I was that friend at

499

:

the gym who would, like, her face is

all s sunken and she has a cake butt.

500

:

I don't wanna act like that.

501

:

And I was like, Selena, come on.

502

:

You need the

503

:

selena: protein, you lift the

weights, that's not gonna happen.

504

:

Yes, I was very, I was very worried

because all you hear again, like

505

:

this is kind of where it comes down

to having somebody on your side.

506

:

Everything in the media, right?

507

:

All this stuff that you read and you

see and you hear, it's like these

508

:

people on Ozempic or these people,

and they always call 'em, they

509

:

call 'em the same things, right?

510

:

I don't even know what the difference

between, I didn't know what the

511

:

difference was between an ozempic and

a GLP one and a, what those things are.

512

:

And I, you know, like learning about what

those are and truly how they're meant.

513

:

But I see these people losing all

this weight and looking terrible and,

514

:

and I'm just like, I can't do that.

515

:

I don't wanna not eat anymore.

516

:

I, I don't wanna like look like that.

517

:

So I was scared and I, I do, I'm actually

very resistant about putting stuff in

518

:

my body that I'm, I don't know about.

519

:

And I, had to get over that a lot

with this, all these supplements

520

:

that I was taking because I

had my box of a million pills.

521

:

But I'm realizing that, again, back

to that journey, it's, it wasn't.

522

:

The eating and the exercise, it was like

taking care of me internally, right?

523

:

What's happening on the inside and the

GLP one I know is something that is,

524

:

there to help me if I do it the right way.

525

:

And so understanding that and learning

from you on, on what that means

526

:

for me has made a big difference.

527

:

it's the what you take, how you

take it, and the microdosing

528

:

that makes a difference.

529

:

And then.

530

:

Understanding that you do need

to still do your protein and your

531

:

workouts and you know that it, all

of that plays a key part in it.

532

:

And I would now recommend

a GLP one to people.

533

:

And I do, yes.

534

:

And I do explain that though,

how I recommend it and why.

535

:

Right.

536

:

So it's not like, oh, go take it.

537

:

It's, well, you need to make sure

your workout, you hit your protein,

538

:

you're eating healthy, because

that's something you taught me too.

539

:

That there is a right and wrong way

to do things and what we see in the

540

:

media and what we see on the internet,

541

:

Not always the way.

542

:

Right?

543

:

So having a professional on your side

that understands that and can teach you

544

:

is I think is crucial and very important.

545

:

emily: When we first met, you

were skeptical for women who are

546

:

listening that are skeptical.

547

:

Yeah.

548

:

Who worked with multiple providers.

549

:

what would you tell them about this

journey, this year, your experience.

550

:

selena: I think for me, don't give up.

551

:

Don't stop, digging for you and fighting

for you because it's so easy to just

552

:

give up and, there's so many times that I

wanted to just be like, oh, well screw it.

553

:

I'm just gonna eat whatever I want.

554

:

Do whatever I want.

555

:

I'm, I'm fat.

556

:

I'm fat.

557

:

Oh, well.

558

:

You know, and if I'm tired, I'm

tired, I'm old, But that, that's the

559

:

thing out there now is you're getting

old, so you're gonna feel that way.

560

:

No, that is not the way

that you should feel.

561

:

And you gotta fight for

yourself, whatever it takes.

562

:

And for me, you need to

find the right doctor.

563

:

And when I spoke with Emily originally, it

was like, Hey, she's like, I went through

564

:

10 doctors too, and I was like, oh my God.

565

:

That made me feel so much better to

know that it wasn't just me that has

566

:

have tried, like a nutritionist, a

functional doctor, a wellness, somebody

567

:

who lift weights and does that.

568

:

Like I tried all these things and I

just kept fighting because it wasn't

569

:

working and I could have easily given

up and just suffered through it.

570

:

And I was like, no, I'm gonna fine.

571

:

Somebody who's gonna help me.

572

:

I think my biggest piece of advice

is don't give up and just keep

573

:

fighting for, for yourself and find

the person that makes sense for you.

574

:

And it's okay to find somebody.

575

:

'cause again, I know, and I will be honest

about this, and people get worried about,

576

:

you see somebody on Facebook, right?

577

:

And it's like a sponsored ad, and you're

like, oh, do I just keep scrolling?

578

:

No, don't.

579

:

Because if you see somebody on

there that resonates with you,

580

:

which it was for Emily, like she

resonated with me and it was like.

581

:

Okay, I'm, I'm gonna try this.

582

:

I'm gonna give her a shot.

583

:

And I did.

584

:

and I was of course skeptical and

nervous, but like, don't be, because

585

:

if you try somebody and you have

that relationship and that bond,

586

:

you'll know instantly whether you

feel it or not, and then go for it.

587

:

Don't give up.

588

:

Just do it because it will be worth

it in the end, and it's worth the

589

:

money and it's worth the time and it's

worth all that stuff to get better.

590

:

emily: I think.

591

:

Like attracts like, so I

lift weights, I eat protein.

592

:

I get my steps.

593

:

If you find someone like that, there's

providers out there, I'm like, you

594

:

haven't worked out ever have you?

595

:

You're gonna tell Yes.

596

:

Yeah, yeah.

597

:

selena: live what you're talking about.

598

:

I totally a hundred percent

agree with you on that.

599

:

It makes a huge difference.

600

:

that's funny you say that

because there are some like.

601

:

trainers, personal trainers out there.

602

:

And I was like, really?

603

:

If I'm, if I'm gonna look like

you, I'm not gonna be a trainer.

604

:

Right.

605

:

And it's funny 'cause I had a guy

that told me that, that he did,

606

:

he went through college for that.

607

:

And the same thing happened to him.

608

:

He and somebody told

him, honestly, he's like.

609

:

You need to act, you need to

look the way you're presented.

610

:

And he was like it, and he, it, I

think, upset him originally, but

611

:

then he did what he did and now

he's a very successful like person.

612

:

So you do have to yes.

613

:

Find somebody that you know, that

you can believe in too, if they're

614

:

preaching what they're saying as well.

615

:

emily: is there anything we

haven't talked about that you

616

:

wanna share with the audience?

617

:

selena: I think the ending piece of it,

just fighting for what you believe in.

618

:

And that personal touch is important.

619

:

I do think going with somebody,

that you feel comfortable with, and

620

:

gain that personalized attention

is super key and important.

621

:

So I would highly suggest doing that.

622

:

emily: Selena, thank you so much.

623

:

Of course.

624

:

I feel like we've lived like

a lifetime together glasses.

625

:

I'm

626

:

selena: very sad.

627

:

I would absolutely recommend

you to anybody, Emily.

628

:

I promise.

629

:

I, I, if any, any, anything

pops up, I will definitely

630

:

send them your way because.

631

:

It's been great and I hope that we

definitely can stay in contact too.

632

:

So,

633

:

emily: yeah.

634

:

And I, I feel so honored to be, for

you to trust me with your health.

635

:

'cause it's like, yeah.

636

:

selena: Oh yeah, it's huge.

637

:

Big deal.

638

:

emily: Yeah.

639

:

I will literally go on walks and I'll

be like, okay, Selena had that reaction

640

:

to L-Glutamine, which maybe she has

like a Melo deficiency because That's

641

:

selena: right.

642

:

Like I'm literally,

well, it's investments.

643

:

Yeah.

644

:

Yeah.

645

:

You invest in people.

646

:

That's the point.

647

:

Yeah.

648

:

When you invest in somebody, it's like

important to you, and that's, that's

649

:

what makes you a good provider, by

the way, because you care so much and

650

:

you want to help that, those people.

651

:

That's, that's huge.

652

:

emily: Yeah.

653

:

All right, ladies.

654

:

I hope you loved that episode

where Selena was sharing her

655

:

journey and her transformation.

656

:

gut hormones, environmental load,

666
