This week I'm talking all about your guests.
How you get started finding your guests, what you should consider, always keeping your ideal listener/client in mind and finding a genuine connection with them.
I also touch on the guest experience. Have you got a process in place to ensure your guests feel looked after and comfortable when speaking on your podcast?
I'd love to know your tips for finding podcast guests and if you have a guest process as well.
If you have any questions or would like some help with your podcast, book a podcast enquiry call.

Welcome to podcasting one on one with me your host
Unknown:Rachel. This podcast is for female business owners and
Unknown:solopreneurs that are looking to start a podcast that add to your
Unknown:own already awesome offering. I'll give you helpful advice
Unknown:that you can take away and use in your podcasting journey. I
Unknown:hope to answer those tricky questions that just keep you
Unknown:from starting once a month, I'll be joined by other female
Unknown:podcasters. They'll share their journey with you and offer tips
Unknown:and advice they discovered along the way. Let's get started.
Unknown:Hi, and welcome to the show. And this week, I have decided to
Unknown:start recording a video podcast. Obviously, for those of you who
Unknown:are just listening on audio, nothing will change here. But
Unknown:after doing the episode a few weeks ago about the benefits of
Unknown:doing a video podcast and speaking with my clients and
Unknown:friends, Hannah and Nicole from showing up solo, I attended
Unknown:their challenge a few weeks ago, at the end of October. And I did
Unknown:the it was called the full circle content challenge. And
Unknown:one of the challenges was to show up live and I don't show up
Unknown:live a lot or on video. So that was interesting for me. And I
Unknown:prefer just to show up on audio and then you know I can tweak it
Unknown:without any all the hums and ahhs and mistakes and things
Unknown:like that. But it was interesting, and I did quite
Unknown:enjoy it. And I think for you know, getting to know people
Unknown:better or people getting to know me better, like showing up a
Unknown:video is always great. So people can put a face to the name. So
Unknown:yeah, I decided to dive in and do a video podcast. I am
Unknown:recording this on Riverside studio riverside.fm I've decided
Unknown:to invest in a audio studio and they record a video as well as
Unknown:the audio. It's something I've been thinking about for a while.
Unknown:And I've got some advice from Roseman calendar, who's a fellow
Unknown:podcaster. And yeah, so I just thought I'd give it a try. So
Unknown:I'll let you know in a few episodes and how it's going give
Unknown:a little review of riverside.fm For those of you out there that
Unknown:are interested in trying a studio platform to record your
Unknown:podcast in. So actually, after that little introduction, let's
Unknown:get back to the episode. Today, I'd like to talk about being a
Unknown:guest, and not being a guest, I like to talk about looking for
Unknown:guests to be on your podcast. Let me just get my little notes
Unknown:up here. So when you're looking for guests to be on your
Unknown:podcast, I know when I started, I was a bit kind of like, well,
Unknown:where do I start? So let's just start with your audience. Start
Unknown:with who you're connected to. And keeping your ideal listener
Unknown:or ideal client in mind, like who in your network would be
Unknown:good or good fit for your podcast? And have a little look
Unknown:at their audience? What does their audience look like. So if
Unknown:you have similar audiences, or maybe they have an audience that
Unknown:you're trying to connect with, and it's great in, so you can
Unknown:both benefit each other's audiences. So have a little look
Unknown:at those people who you do know. And then you can start kind of
Unknown:like fanning out a little bit, and having a little look at who
Unknown:they know. So the second contacts, if you're on LinkedIn,
Unknown:and maybe look at, you know, if they have a podcast, or they've
Unknown:been on other podcasts, have a little look at those and see
Unknown:whether they fit in with what you're doing. That's really good
Unknown:research. And they all those type of podcasts would be kind
Unknown:of on a par with what you're doing rather than trying to
Unknown:attain to go on something like you know, some of those podcasts
Unknown:that are like lots and lots of viewers and listeners and things
Unknown:that are much harder with kind of celebrities or thought
Unknown:leaders and things that possibly harder to get on. So have a
Unknown:little look at those. This is what I did myself looking for
Unknown:guests. Just keep going back and keeping your ideal client or
Unknown:your ideal listener in mind when you're looking Get for these
Unknown:people, then bringing them on your show. So what is it that
Unknown:they're going to? Or what would you like them to talk about? How
Unknown:is it going to add value to your audience and talking about the
Unknown:subject that you want to talk about. So once you've kind of
Unknown:earmark these people, you really want to try make, you should be
Unknown:able to make a genuine connection with them. So you
Unknown:should obviously have some in common with them if they're if
Unknown:they talk about common subject to what you're talking about. So
Unknown:just reach out and start engaging with them have a little
Unknown:look through their content. Like I said, before, about podcasts,
Unknown:you know, listen to the podcasts they've been on, or listen to
Unknown:their podcast, you want to try and start as with anything when
Unknown:you're trying to grow your connections, as well, a genuine
Unknown:conversation, a genuine end, so you can start that relationship,
Unknown:drop them a DM to say, I really like what you're doing. I loved
Unknown:your blog on this or listen to your podcasts on this. I'd
Unknown:really love you to come in on my podcast and talk to my audience.
Unknown:Generally, a lot of people agreed to coming on the podcast.
Unknown:I know some of the podcast hosts that I've interviewed for this
Unknown:show have said they've never had a no. So that is always
Unknown:encouraging. And it's always just nice to have that genuine
Unknown:connection with them bang. So once they've agreed to be on one
Unknown:little thing that I wanted to talk about as well is like the
Unknown:guest process, if you will. So what have you got in place. So
Unknown:what steps have you got in place to that you can make your make
Unknown:your guests feel as welcome as possible. I when a few months
Unknown:ago, we spoke with Citadel stewards, and she has a really
Unknown:great kind of guests process, and they want to make their
Unknown:guests feel have the best experience with them. So it
Unknown:might be interesting to go back and listen to that episode,
Unknown:which I will link in the show notes. And you can hear citadels
Unknown:thoughts about that as well. And so, so I'll say a little bit
Unknown:about my guest process just so that it gives you an idea of
Unknown:what you could do. And this can also be automated. If you're
Unknown:into like no code stuff, use something like dubsado, or air
Unknown:table. If you have a lot of guests coming on, this would be
Unknown:quite a good idea to be able to automate some of these things
Unknown:and design templates, and then add in the personalizations
Unknown:afterwards. So once a person is agreed to come on my podcast, I
Unknown:like to send them an email with some information on about the
Unknown:questions I'm going to be asking them, and some little tips for
Unknown:recording. In my case, the people that are coming on my
Unknown:show are podcast hosts, so they probably wouldn't need those
Unknown:tips because they are aware of those kinds of things
Unknown:themselves. But if for you guys, if yours is not specifically
Unknown:about podcasting, it's a really great idea to include some tips
Unknown:about how maybe some settings if you're doing over zoom, or how
Unknown:they will get into the studio to record it or all those little
Unknown:things. So you can make it as smooth as possible on the day,
Unknown:make sure they get a calendar invite, make sure there's a link
Unknown:in there. And to to wherever you're recording, I then like to
Unknown:send a little reminder out before the interview is going to
Unknown:happen just to make sure they're okay with everything and to
Unknown:resend the link just so that it's easy and fresh in their
Unknown:minds to be able to find it. And then after the show, I like to
Unknown:send out a little thank you and let them know when their
Unknown:episodes going to air. Don't worry if you don't know that. At
Unknown:that point. I've already got my episodes planned out. So I knew
Unknown:I know exactly when the episodes are going to come out. So yeah,
Unknown:so do that. And then once I let them know that also, I'm going
Unknown:to send some social media assets out to them. So I like to design
Unknown:a story and an audiogram and send that out to them a week or
Unknown:two before that episode goes live so that they can share that
Unknown:with their audience. This part is really important, I think you
Unknown:need to make it as easy as possible for them to share the
Unknown:podcast with their with their audience. And you can also offer
Unknown:perhaps to do the graphics in their brand colours so that it
Unknown:fits in with more with their social media platform. And if
Unknown:you want some copy, you could also write some copy for them
Unknown:just so they can just copy and paste and then it's really
Unknown:really simple for them to do. It's just
Unknown:a nice thing to do to make them feel have that really nice
Unknown:experience with you. They don't You don't want them to feel like
Unknown:they're, you know, oh, I couldn't find the link. Nobody
Unknown:told me anything I didn't Have any questions and all of those
Unknown:kinds of things, that's not a really good impression to make.
Unknown:So I think that's a really nice kind of little process you can
Unknown:do there. Obviously, you tweak it to how you would like to have
Unknown:it and or improve upon it. I would love to hear if somebody
Unknown:has, what kind of guests process that you have yourself? Do you
Unknown:automate it? And what do you use to automate it? I'm really
Unknown:interested in doing the automation side of things. So
Unknown:that is something that I'd love to hear from you guys about. I
Unknown:hope this episode has been helpful to you. And for those of
Unknown:you watching on YouTube, I'd love to have a little comment or
Unknown:a little like on my YouTube page, and let me know what you
Unknown:think about doing a video podcast. And as ever, if you
Unknown:have any questions, please get in touch. And I do offer a 30
Unknown:minute free session for people to come and talk to me about a
Unknown:question you might have but your podcast or if you just want some
Unknown:practical advice that we can do within that 30 minutes. I'm also
Unknown:happy to do that as well. So I will leave a link in the show
Unknown:notes for you to book straight in my diary, and then we can can
Unknown:do that appointment. So thanks for listening, and I'll catch
