Hi.
Melyssa:Hello, how are you?
Melyssa:Welcome to the Mamas Making More Podcast.
Melyssa:I have a fun episode for today.
Melyssa:Because I want to talk about summer vacation.
Melyssa:We are entering May at the time of this recording.
Melyssa:And to me, that it just a signifies the kids school winding down,
Melyssa:and summer vacation approaching.
Melyssa:And what I want to talk about today is road trips.
Melyssa:I don't know about you, but my family, we generally take a pretty
Melyssa:long road trip every summer.
Melyssa:And I'm usually the passenger.
Melyssa:My husband is a driver.
Melyssa:He likes to just zone out with his music.
Melyssa:I have no shame in the fact that I let my kids zone out on whatever
Melyssa:they're doing on their phones, devices.
Melyssa:They get to put their headphones on, they're not arguing.
Melyssa:They're just like hand over fist putting snacks and junk in their faces.
Melyssa:But that's totally fine with me.
Melyssa:I always joke with them that when we are going through an area that's
Melyssa:like scenic or something unique, and I want them to pay attention to it.
Melyssa:I'm like, okay.
Melyssa:You know, headphones off, let's look at these great United States
Melyssa:and they always roll their eyes, but they do love it as well.
Melyssa:The thing about road trips for me though, as much as I liked just kind of zoning out
Melyssa:and looking at the scenery, I'm just not a person who does really well doing nothing.
Melyssa:I'm constantly feeling like I should be doing something while we are
Melyssa:driving in these great United States.
Melyssa:So I want to share with you, I have my top 10 ways of being productive while
Melyssa:you're a passenger in a road trip.
Melyssa:Now feel free if you are someone who likes to just zone out not be, you
Melyssa:know, not do something like this.
Melyssa:I'm not judging you, that is totally fine.
Melyssa:But if you kind of have that personality where you feel like you need to keep
Melyssa:yourself busy and you don't want to just sit there, twiddling your thumbs while
Melyssa:you're watching the great scenery, these are 10 ideas where you can be productive
Melyssa:and get some stuff done on your business, and, occupy your time a little bit.
Melyssa:So.
Melyssa:I'm just going to jump right in.
Melyssa:Most of the 10 tips that I have do require some sort of cell signal and your phone.
Melyssa:I suppose you could do it on a tablet.
Melyssa:Actually doing it on a tablet would probably save my eyes a lot.
Melyssa:There are a couple that are just, you know, notebook type of thing.
Melyssa:So.
Melyssa:Anyways, just wanted to give you that little brief caveat.
Melyssa:So number one is to do a digital declutter of your email inbox.
Melyssa:I know I'm totally guilty of getting really lazy and not deleting
Melyssa:things out of my email inbox.
Melyssa:And then, you know, not having an inbox zero, which is always
Melyssa:like a great goal to have.
Melyssa:So you can really go through those.
Melyssa:You can delete them, you can put them in folders.
Melyssa:You can just spend some time organizing and see if you can get
Melyssa:close to that email inbox zero.
Melyssa:It's a great feeling for me.
Melyssa:Maybe it is for you, but really just to go through and do a lot of
Melyssa:deleting of unneeded emails is a great way to spend some time there.
Melyssa:Number two, delete your unneeded photos off your phone.
Melyssa:I I'm not even going to tell you how many photos that I have on my phone right now.
Melyssa:It is an embarrassing number.
Melyssa:It is in the five figures.
Melyssa:But, that's me.
Melyssa:I definitely should do this on a road trip, whatever road trip
Melyssa:we have coming up this summer.
Melyssa:A lot of it is just screenshots.
Melyssa:A lot of it is things that videos that I've taken that I don't need
Melyssa:anymore, duplicates, whatever.
Melyssa:So just going through and really purging it.
Melyssa:It doesn't take a lot of brain space to do that.
Melyssa:It's kind of mindless.
Melyssa:You could pick it up as you go.
Melyssa:You can stop doing it and look out at your road trip scenery.
Melyssa:. And you can free up that space on your phone and just pair down the number
Melyssa:of photos that are on your phone for whatever you're going to be doing.
Melyssa:If you're going to be offloading all of them and organizing them in some sort
Melyssa:of system, it's just a great thing to mindlessly do while you're on a road trip.
Melyssa:My number three tip is to send an email to some of your clients or your super fans.
Melyssa:I don't know about you, I know as a kid, I really enjoyed getting actual
Melyssa:mail and now I get so many emails in my inbox that are just impersonal
Melyssa:and part of subscription lists.
Melyssa:And that's fine.
Melyssa:That's great.
Melyssa:But it's really rare that I get an actual individual email to me.
Melyssa:That's, you know, in my business inbox, especially.
Melyssa:So just think about who are some clients that you were really thankful for, or some
Melyssa:collaborators that you're really thankful for anybody in your life, in your business
Melyssa:that's just been really supportive of you.
Melyssa:Just send them an email and tell them it's the perfect time to just, it doesn't
Melyssa:have to be long involved, whatever, just say like, Hey, I'm just thinking of you.
Melyssa:I always appreciate your support.
Melyssa:Hope you're having a great summer.
Melyssa:Something as simple as that could mean the world to the
Melyssa:person who's receiving that email.
Melyssa:The number four tip I have when you're on a road trip is to sort
Melyssa:through, especially your Facebook and your Instagram saved posts.
Melyssa:I will go through when I'm scrolling and I'll save posts because maybe
Melyssa:it's something that I want to look into later, or I want to remember
Melyssa:something about it, or maybe it's a social media post that I really like and
Melyssa:I'd like to do something similar, not copy, but use as kind of a springboard
Melyssa:or, maybe they've shared a tip , from Canva or a tip for Instagram stories.
Melyssa:So different things.
Melyssa:I do that, but then I don't sort through them and I don't go through them again.
Melyssa:And I don't delete the ones I don't need anymore.
Melyssa:And I tend to not organize them into folders so that I know what it is.
Melyssa:What I want to go back and look for them.
Melyssa:So another great thing to kind of just mindlessly do is look at something and,
Melyssa:oh, is this a tip that you still need?
Melyssa:Or is this a tip that you're, , already know about and you don't need that.
Melyssa:So just really sorting through those.
Melyssa:So it's not messy and you know, it can give you some great ideas
Melyssa:that maybe you forgot about.
Melyssa:All right.
Melyssa:Number five is to brainstorm your content ideas.
Melyssa:This can be on your phones notes app.
Melyssa:This can be on good old paper.
Melyssa:However you want to brainstorm it, but just really dump any of those
Melyssa:content ideas that you have out there.
Melyssa:Anything that you've been thinking about anything.
Melyssa:They just want to get down on paper or that app, just so you can remember
Melyssa:what it is when you go back and you're at your desk and you need some
Melyssa:of those content ideas, you'll have this whole bank, you're essentially
Melyssa:creating a bank of ideas while you're sitting there on your road trip.
Melyssa:Number six is a similar idea.
Melyssa:And that is to outline ideas for offers that you want to have, whether it's
Melyssa:in the next quarter, the next year, whatever the timeframe is, any sort
Melyssa:of ideas again on your phone app or a phone notes app or on a piece of paper.
Melyssa:Just really outlined the ideas of what offers you might potentially be
Melyssa:having to launch in the near future.
Melyssa:Anything just no judgment, just writing it out, whether it's something that you
Melyssa:actually do or not just getting those all down on paper again, after, when you're
Melyssa:back in your office in that actual work mode where you're super activated,
Melyssa:then you can go back through those and see, what is something that's coming
Melyssa:up that you're going to launch soon?
Melyssa:What's something that you're going to put on your back burner.
Melyssa:It's just great to have those ideas organized and in a specific place.
Melyssa:Now number seven is kind of a fun one and it can be business
Melyssa:related or personal related.
Melyssa:Go through and add any books that you want to read.
Melyssa:If you're anything like me, I love reading books.
Melyssa:I love reading fiction.
Melyssa:I love reading biographies and I love reading business type of
Melyssa:books, the inspirational, the mindset, personal development.
Melyssa:And a lot of times I will just spend some time researching what's out there.
Melyssa:Who's written something lately.
Melyssa:So you can spend a little time just scrolling through something
Melyssa:like Amazon or Goodreads, wherever it is that you get ideas for books.
Melyssa:And just flag some that you think you might want to read throughout
Melyssa:the summer or the year to come.
Melyssa:Another good place to find these is if you follow like bookstagramers on Instagram,
Melyssa:that's always fun too, to see what other people are reading and enjoying.
Melyssa:So just of create a list.
Melyssa:Like I said, it could be your personal list, your business list, both of them
Melyssa:just kind of get that down so that you do have some books to be looking forward to.
Melyssa:Number eight is to do some rough outlining of the future of your business.
Melyssa:Not like the 10-year future, but the near future, the next couple of
Melyssa:quarters, maybe the next calendar year.
Melyssa:What are some things that you want to launch?
Melyssa:What are some themes that you want to focus on?
Melyssa:If you have monthly themes in your business, what are some of
Melyssa:the themes that are coming up?
Melyssa:Are you going to have any flash sales?
Melyssa:Just outline what's coming up and just don't let yourself feel
Melyssa:like you have to be tied to it.
Melyssa:Just again, get it down on paper.
Melyssa:And when you're back in your office, when you're out of vacation mode, you can pull
Melyssa:it out and you can start calendaring.
Melyssa:Some of those things that you came up with.
Melyssa:Number nine is to watch some of those online courses.
Melyssa:Maybe you have an online course that you just watched through real fast
Melyssa:and you didn't really take notes and you were like, I need to come back to
Melyssa:this and really spend some time on it.
Melyssa:You could totally watch a course like that.
Melyssa:Maybe you have a few courses that you haven't watched that
Melyssa:are on your to be watched list.
Melyssa:And it's the perfect time to just put in your earbuds and watch some of those
Melyssa:online courses, take some notes on them.
Melyssa:And just get caught up on those things that you've been wanting to
Melyssa:learn about, but really didn't feel like you had the time to do when you
Melyssa:were in your office or sitting at your desk or whatever the reason is.
Melyssa:It's just a great opportunity.
Melyssa:I know that not only on road trips, but often when we travel for one of
Melyssa:my son, he has a travel soccer team.
Melyssa:When we're traveling longer times to go to some of his games, I'll definitely
Melyssa:pop in the earbuds and listen to some online courses it just really
Melyssa:gets those creative juices flowing.
Melyssa:And I love to learn.
Melyssa:If you love to learn, this is a great time to watch some of those courses.
Melyssa:My number 10 is to binge your favorite podcasts.
Melyssa:This is just such a classic road trip thing.
Melyssa:You can listen to multiple episodes of the same podcast.
Melyssa:You can like skip around things that you want to to catch up on, or, maybe
Melyssa:you want everyone to be together on that road trip for a little bit.
Melyssa:So maybe find a family podcast that you all enjoy and you
Melyssa:can listen to it all together.
Melyssa:Okay.
Melyssa:So that's a wrap on my 10 tips for things that you can do to feel a little bit more
Melyssa:productive while you're on a road trip.
Melyssa:I would love to know if any of these are ideas that you're going to
Melyssa:incorporate into your summer travel plans, or if you have something
Melyssa:that I didn't mention, send me a DM.
Melyssa:I am on Instagram @melyssamunday, or @mamasmakingmore.
Melyssa:Let me know what I should add to this list.
Melyssa:And maybe it's something that I'll add into rotation when
Melyssa:I'm on one of my road trips.
Melyssa:Okay.
Melyssa:I hope this gave you some inspiration to be a little bit more productive
Melyssa:on your road trip this summer.
Melyssa:And that's all I have for this episode.
