Why do we wait for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions to give ourselves permission to celebrate? In this quick 5-minute episode, Maria talks about creating joy on ordinary days, celebrating yourself just because, and refusing to let society decide when life is allowed to feel special. Your life is happening now, so why not make a random day worth celebrating?

Speaker A:

Hey, y'.

Speaker A:

All.

Speaker A:

You were listening to another episode of the spiritual Homegirl podcast.

Speaker A:

We better self in spirit and make peace with the day through wisdom, education, and practical, easy to follow tips.

Speaker A:

I am your host, Maria, your spiritual homegirl, who's also a mental professional.

Speaker A:

And I've been podcasting pretty consistently since coming back from maternity leave.

Speaker A:

And I love that, and I hope y' all been loving it too.

Speaker A:

In case you missed it, don't forget, since coming back from maternity leave, we've done quite a few episodes.

Speaker A:

So we started from 603 why community shouldn't cost you yourself.

Speaker A:

Then we did 604, which is about desperation being a terrible life partner.

Speaker A:

Then we did 605, where we give ourselves permission to grow while grieving.

Speaker A:

Then episode 606 is about mistaking intuition for authority.

Speaker A:

And then 607 is how Jamel Hills set an awesome boundary in just two sentences.

Speaker A:

So today, on episode 608, we're going to talk about special days and holidays.

Speaker A:

And I know that sometimes people are really stringent about following the standard holiday schedule.

Speaker A:

So, like a Christmas Eve, a Christmas, a Mother's Day, a Father's Day, Grandparents Day, New Year's Day, if you follow the Gregorian calendar, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, President's Day, all these awesome types of days, right?

Speaker A:

But in the meantime, we just live regular degular days.

Speaker A:

And why is that?

Speaker A:

Why do days have to be regular?

Speaker A:

They're regular until they aren't.

Speaker A:

And then I know if you're anything like me, you make your birthday a holiday too, because that's just the way it goes.

Speaker A:

Or if you're also like me, you might do like an equinox or a.

Speaker A:

Or a solstice as like, days that are special, but we assign special meaning to specific days.

Speaker A:

But why not look at all days as special and meaningful and worth celebration or reverence?

Speaker A:

Sometimes we'll just mosey along throughout the week and say, oh, I can't wait until this day, because then I can celebrate.

Speaker A:

What's wrong with celebrating on a Monday?

Speaker A:

Most times, Mondays get a bad rap.

Speaker A:

For some, you may love the fresh start of the work week and doing your thing.

Speaker A:

And for some of you, that actually might be the start of your week.

Speaker A:

If for those that don't qualify Sunday as their start of the week, of the new week.

Speaker A:

But for sometimes, you know, for some people, excuse me, they'll say, Mondays are terrible.

Speaker A:

Oh, I gotta go back to work.

Speaker A:

Oh, I gotta just gotta do that.

Speaker A:

How come we can't look at Mondays as a day to say, wow, here is an amazing, awesome day to have a fresh start.

Speaker A:

the first Monday of August in:

Speaker A:

he second Monday in August in:

Speaker A:

second Thursday in August of:

Speaker A:

Like, wow, how could I make this amazing?

Speaker A:

For me, what small thing can I do to just find some joy and say, man, this was a day that was worth celebrating?

Speaker A:

Or you know what?

Speaker A:

This day is going to be memorable because I've done xyz.

Speaker A:

I'm going to remember and make it special because of blank.

Speaker A:

What is it that you're going to do today moving forward that's going to make every day a day worth celebrating?

Speaker A:

Do you have to ball out and do a bunch of stuff and make a super cute aesthetic to post on Instagram?

Speaker A:

No.

Speaker A:

Could you buy something small?

Speaker A:

Maybe if you want to buy yourself a little cupcake with a candle and just celebrate and just say, wow, this is a Thursday.

Speaker A:

Or this is a really good day, or this is going to be the first of many good days.

Speaker A:

If today wasn't so good, whatever it is, you can do that.

Speaker A:

You have the right to do that.

Speaker A:

So for those that might get caught up in the tediousness of just celebrating the days when society tells you to, I challenge you to start celebrating days that are off your calendar and assign special meaning to them.

Speaker A:

And do you have to do a ritual for them all in terms of.

Speaker A:

And I know some of y' all gonna try to make it.

Speaker A:

Woo, woo.

Speaker A:

Please, please, please.

Speaker A:

Okay, I couldn't wait to get that out.

Speaker A:

Please don't get into that.

Speaker A:

Because a lot of times a lot of people will say, oh, that's witchcraft.

Speaker A:

Not realizing some of the other things they do could technically be considered witchcraft by other people too.

Speaker A:

So we're not going to get into that.

Speaker A:

But you could do your own rituals and things of value and importance that may not always have to be so routine.

Speaker A:

So, so even if it's just, you know what, I'm going to pick a random day, I'm going to pick September 4th and that's going to be a good day for me to just celebrate and do something kind for myself.

Speaker A:

Or I'm going to celebrate on August 13th and I'm going to do something kind for myself or I'm.

Speaker A:

Whatever it is, just make it about you.

Speaker A:

Make it about being happy, make it about finding joy.

Speaker A:

Because again, like I'm always say, if you leave it up society to tell you what to do, you're going to be miserable, you're gonna be miserable, you're gonna be fearful, you're gonna be full of hatred, you're gonna be full of judgment.

Speaker A:

And that's just not a healthy way to live.

Speaker A:

So again, that's your challenge.

Speaker A:

If you choose to accept.

Speaker A:

Let me know how it goes.

Speaker A:

I'm spiritual Homegirl everywhere.

Speaker A:

Don't forget to sign up for my email list.

Speaker A:

It's the second link in my show notes.

Speaker A:

I didn't want to make this too long because I've been talking for the last month and if you've listened to episode 603 until now, you know I've had a lot to say, so I'm gonna keep this one short.

Speaker A:

So with that being said, y', all, this has been another episode of Spiritual Homegirl Podcast.

Speaker A:

My name is Maria, your spiritual homegirl.

Speaker A:

And remember, boo, friends, trust the journey.

Speaker A:

Trust yourself, and whatever you do, do it with love.

Speaker A:

Celebrating included.

Speaker A:

Love, y'.

Speaker A:

All.

Speaker A:

Peace.
