Speaker:

If you're assuming low testosterone is the primary

Speaker:

cause of erectile dysfunction, you are trying to solve the

Speaker:

wrong problem, and worse, popping a quick pill to mask it

Speaker:

might be blinding you to what your body is actually trying to

Speaker:

warn you about. Today, we're breaking down the top five real

Speaker:

drivers of ED, the exact way alcohol physically shuts down

Speaker:

your nerves, and the one warning symptom down there that means

Speaker:

you need to call a doctor today. Put the quick fixes on hold for

Speaker:

five minutes. Let's look at the actual science.

Speaker:

This podcast is for you, the Modern Man. I'm Dr Anne Truong,

Speaker:

your host. I'm an intimate health medical doctor and best

Speaker:

selling author of the book, Erectile Dysfunction Fix. I'll

Speaker:

do a deep dive into sexual health and performance and how

Speaker:

it affects men of all ages and backgrounds. So let's get

Speaker:

started, and be sure to visit my website at

Speaker:

sexualhealthformenpodcast.com for more information and

Speaker:

resources from the show. See you on the inside.

Speaker:

So, is testosterone important for erection? So, testosterone

Speaker:

is a male hormone that makes a man a man, right? So, a man has

Speaker:

100 times more testosterone level than a woman. A woman,

Speaker:

conversely, have 100 times more estrogen level than a man. Just

Speaker:

saying that low testosterone can be the cause of ED. Well,

Speaker:

erectile dysfunction is multifactorial, meaning multiple

Speaker:

things can cause ED. So ED is not just one thing, it is

Speaker:

multiple contributing factors. Your penis have multiple

Speaker:

receptors for testosterone. And receptors are like the opening

Speaker:

to the key, right? That's the receptor. You put your key in,

Speaker:

and the testosterone is the key, and opening is the receptor. And

Speaker:

in the penis, there are multiple receptors for testosterone. When

Speaker:

you have low testosterone, as less key to go into the hole, so

Speaker:

when there's less key to go into the hole, low testosterone can

Speaker:

contribute, but not primary cause of ED. It will contribute

Speaker:

to shrinkage, it will also contribute to firmness and

Speaker:

increasing blood flow as well. So we have low testosterone is

Speaker:

one of many causes of ED, so that's one. So low testosterone,

Speaker:

yes, can contribute, but it's not the primary factor. Meaning

Speaker:

if you supplement testosterone, if you take either testosterone

Speaker:

injections or pellets, oral testosterone, even gel, not

Speaker:

necessarily that will fix your ED.

Speaker:

So, what's the number one cause of ED? What's the number one

Speaker:

contributor to ED? You'll be surprised to find out what is

Speaker:

the number one cause of ED. Number one cause of ED is

Speaker:

actually alcohol. It's more lifestyle. So excessive alcohol,

Speaker:

I mean, you're allowed like 14 drinks a week, but excessive

Speaker:

alcohol is one. Number two is smoking, number three is

Speaker:

obesity, or overweight, BMI over 30, and number four is diabetes,

Speaker:

and number five is high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Speaker:

So, having said that, things that you can cut down is smoking

Speaker:

and alcohol consumption. Why does alcohol contribute to ED?

Speaker:

Because when you're drinking alcohol, it affects the nerve as

Speaker:

well as affecting the muscle of the penis, and therefore you

Speaker:

actually have less sensitivity, and you also have less

Speaker:

relaxation of the penis muscle. So it contributes to erection in

Speaker:

nerve and also in muscle. And that's something to know,

Speaker:

because you know there's a term called Whiskey Dick, if you

Speaker:

drink too much alcohol, then it's going to affect your

Speaker:

erection. So that's actually the number one cause of ED.

Speaker:

And age, the older you are does not mean you're going to have

Speaker:

ED. It's just that when you get older, you tend to acquire

Speaker:

medical conditions such as high blood pressure, high

Speaker:

cholesterol, diabetes, and overweight, and then you also

Speaker:

get low testosterone. All that added to contributing to

Speaker:

erectile dysfunction. But not age, necessarily age, is the

Speaker:

cause of ED. Just know that ED, if you're young, like in your

Speaker:

30s, your 40s, starting to notice ED, first things off now.

Speaker:

Are you smoking? Are you drinking too much alcohol? Are

Speaker:

you doing porn? How is your sleep? Are you overweight? Check

Speaker:

those things. What's defined as overweight? When your BMI is

Speaker:

over 30. BMI means body mass index. Okay, you could get that

Speaker:

formula right off the internet and calculate that formula. Some

Speaker:

quick tips there.

Speaker:

So oftentime ED is reversible if you know what causes it, and I

Speaker:

just kind of told you the most common cause of ED. So the last

Speaker:

thing you want to do is you find out that you have ED, and maybe

Speaker:

it's contributed by alcohol or maybe porn or smoking. Well,

Speaker:

what do you end up doing? Go online, next thing you know,

Speaker:

you're taking a Viagra pill from an online dispensary, and that's

Speaker:

not the route that you want to go, because your ED can totally

Speaker:

be reversed and treated if you really take some time to look at

Speaker:

the cause of ED. You know, this is the common questions we get.

Speaker:

Question says, "Hello, what are some causes of left testicle

Speaker:

area being slightly sore sometime, more like on the

Speaker:

attachment area behind the testicle. If your testicle is

Speaker:

sore and it's consistent every day, you need to get evaluated

Speaker:

by a doctor. So see an urologist who specializes in the penis and

Speaker:

the testicles. Because it's a sore, it could be a sign of

Speaker:

infection, it could be a sign of blockage, it could be a sign of

Speaker:

cancer, it could also be a sign of a cyst. So it needs to be

Speaker:

evaluated. Is it consistent day after day, I would advise you to

Speaker:

do testicle massage the same way that women do breast exam. You

Speaker:

should do testicle massage every day, so you can feel the texture

Speaker:

of your testicle, you can feel the cord, the spermatic cord

Speaker:

that goes to the prostate. So your testicle make testosterone,

Speaker:

and it also makes spur, but in a sac, which is your scrotum

Speaker:

outside the body. Because the testicle needs to be one or two

Speaker:

degrees cooler than the body to make testosterone and sperm. If

Speaker:

you are working inside, you sit down a lot, and if you wear

Speaker:

pants, sometimes that can affect the temperature of the testicle

Speaker:

as well. So if you have trauma to the testicle, as in like some

Speaker:

type of blunt force, or if you ride a bike a lot, you

Speaker:

definitely need to have to be evaluated. It's kind of like a

Speaker:

woman finding her breast being tender or a lump in breast, it

Speaker:

needs to be evaluated, and you shouldn't take it lightly. So,

Speaker:

guys, if you have tenderness in the testicle, it could be a lot

Speaker:

of things, so you need to be evaluated first. You can't just

Speaker:

say, "Well, doesn't hurt that much, I'll just lie on it." You

Speaker:

need to get evaluated, because testicular cancer is a

Speaker:

possibility, as well as a cyst, as well as an infection,

Speaker:

sometimes the cord, the spermatic cord, that is a cord

Speaker:

that goes up to bring the sperm to the prostate area, that gets

Speaker:

a kink that can kink and that can turn, called torsion, that

Speaker:

can cause a soreness as well. So you definitely need to

Speaker:

re-evaluate with a doctor, and then something orders an

Speaker:

ultrasound that can look at the structure of the testicle to see

Speaker:

any type of blockage. Oftentimes the testicle is benign, very

Speaker:

easy to use the same ultrasound that women have to look at

Speaker:

babies, but they can visually see the scrotum quite well

Speaker:

there.

Speaker:

You know, there's another follow-up question here about

Speaker:

testicle soreness. Again, you need to be evaluated. Okay, you

Speaker:

can't just assume it's a blockage or lack of ejaculation.

Speaker:

You can't assume that. Well, it's like a woman having a mass

Speaker:

in her breast, can't assume anything. Because a mask in the

Speaker:

breast for a woman could be a cyst, could be scar tissue,

Speaker:

could be cancer, but don't sit on it. Get evaluated. So, I have

Speaker:

another question. And assume it's occasional block that, you

Speaker:

can't assume it. You can't assume anything, because you

Speaker:

need imaging to know what it is. You can go see the doctor, get

Speaker:

an ultrasound, and it will show what it is. So, don't sit on,

Speaker:

don't diagnose yourself either. Okay? Because I have another

Speaker:

comment here. Well, I assume it's a blockage. How do you keep

Speaker:

it from happening? Lack of ejaculation does not cause

Speaker:

testicle pain, right? Ejaculation has nothing to do

Speaker:

with testicle pain. Sometimes testicle pain can be from

Speaker:

trauma, but it could be multiple causes that can be easily

Speaker:

diagnosed by just an imaging test called the ultrasound, so

Speaker:

the function of the testicle is to bring the sperm up into the

Speaker:

Okay, Modern Man. If you're struggling with weak erection,

Speaker:

prostate, and the prostate store the sperm in a sac called

Speaker:

low energy, the food you eat could be the big part of the

Speaker:

self-saminal vesicle, and then when you ejaculate, the sperm,

Speaker:

problem. One of the best research pathways to boost

Speaker:

along with the seminal fluid, comes out, and the seminal fluid

Speaker:

circulation, support healthy testosterone and improve sexual

Speaker:

performance is the Mediterranean diet. It's packed with food that

Speaker:

protects those sperm to allow it to survive in the female. So

Speaker:

open up your blood vessel, lower inflammation, and fuel your

Speaker:

that is the function of the testicle.
