“The beauty of being a member of a space where you're with like-minded people is that you can show up whole, because it's a safe space to stretch your legs and learn. And that's what my group gave me,” shares Amy Vaughan, Owner and Chief Empowerment Officer of Together Digital, a community for women in digital marketing. Amy was a member of the community for almost 3 years helping to build the Cincinnati chapter before taking over for the founder when she decided to run for Congress. Today, Amy joins host Kiley Peters to talk about how to build community and add value through memberships.
The beauty of Together Digital is that it provides a safe space for women from all different backgrounds to speak freely and totally be themselves. It is a truly supportive community of women that uplift and empower one another while getting the chance to learn and grow together. Amy recognizes that with any membership platform, there is a focus on building numbers and retention, but the great thing about owning a business is that it doesn’t have to be for everyone. So if some people are not the right fit for the group or are not able to adhere to the code of conduct, those people do not have to be included. She shares that the greatest marketing for her has been word of mouth because it is not easy for women to find a genuine, safe community where the support is really unconditional.
If you believe strongly in your mission and your values and get a like-minded community together, you can accomplish incredible things. Without the support of her Together Digital family, the original founder may never have run for Congress and Amy Vaughn may not have found her calling for entrepreneurship. Tune into this episode of Welcome To Eloma to learn more about the benefits of building community and how to create memberships that provide lasting value and keep members returning for more.
Quotes
- “What I had found about the experience of being a part of Together Digital and leading a chapter was that even though I'd worked at large conglomerate agencies, there was nothing more educational and challenging than managing a group of volunteer women for a board and getting the opportunity within my local community to be walking around town and people know me not because of my agency, but because of being a Together Digital member.” (2:02-2:36 | Amy)
- “Whenever I meet with these women, board members, members, I walk away feeling more energized, more connected, more seen and heard than I do some days when I'm at home or at work.” (4:13-4:22 | Amy)
- “There needs to be a code of conduct. Together Digital is all about making sure that we are maintaining confidentiality so that women feel like they can ask the hard questions in a safe space. We are also about making sure that we're creating a space for all women, regardless of their age, race, previous gender identity to infringe upon their ability to speak out competently. And that's not an easy thing to do.” (12:50-13:13 | Amy)
- “The beauty of owning your own business is that you don't have to be for everybody.” (13:51-13:55 | Amy)
- “The beauty of being a member in a space where you're with like-minded people is that you can show up whole, because it's all learning. It's a safe space to stretch your legs and learn. And that's what this group gave me.” (22:38-22:56 | Amy)
