Nathan:

Do not love the world or the things in the world. ... For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

John the Beloved. 1 John 2:15–16. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 6 of 30 Days Reflecting on the Kingdom. Three primary concerns have defined the way humans do life for millennia: 1) doing what tastes good, smells good or feels good; 2) having stuff; 3) being the center of attention. John calls out these three basic areas of human brokenness as the anti-love, anti-God orientation of earthlings. How often does doing what feels good determine how you treat others? Your spouse is getting ready for work and could really use a hand—but that bed is so warm. Or, how about your Black Friday spending—are you one of those fighting over the last door-buster deal? Or how about this: your social media feed isn’t exactly an accurate window into your life. You post content specifically crafted to increase likes and build your image? If you wanna change this, start with a simple confession: God, that’s me—all wrapped up in myself. I don’t like this version of me. Do your thing in my life, so that I start looking more like you. Start learning love well.
