Shownotes
In today’s episode, I’m talking about how we don’t know how to hold grief. Over the last three years, I've experienced loss and uncertainty in ways I never anticipated. After my dad died suddenly in 2023, I knew I couldn't simply shove the grief down as I had before.
Shortly before his death, I heard something that has stayed with me ever since: we don't know how to hold mystery, and we don't know how to hold grief. So, I found support and began learning how to experience grief (rather than run from it).
We can learn to sit with grief, and allow it to deepen our compassion, love, and capacity for joy. THAT is part of being fully alive, too!
In this episode, I cover:
- Why so many of us feel uncomfortable with grief
- Why avoiding grief doesn't make it disappear
- Learning to hold both grief & uncertainty
- How seeking support changed my relationship with loss
- How making room for sadness can deepen our capacity for joy
- Why bright-siding can diminish someone's experience of grief
- Befriending grief instead of trying to numb or escape it
- The secret to being fully alive
