Evan:

Hey, what's going on, everybody.

Evan:

Welcome back to the elemental oven show.

Evan:

Today is another mini Monday episode as compared to the

Evan:

wellness Wednesday episodes, which are the full length episodes.

Evan:

Uh, these are a little bit shorter.

Evan:

Although most of my episodes are pretty compact so that we can

Evan:

really get a lot of information.

Evan:

You know, nice health and wellness information into your day in a short

Evan:

amount of time so that you can have some actionable steps to, you know, imply

Evan:

into your life and use right away so that you can start living your best and

Evan:

healthiest life as soon as possible.

Evan:

And today's episode is going to be exactly that.

Evan:

We're going to provide you with some really beneficial knowledge

Evan:

and a takeaway action that you can start doing to really improve your

Evan:

knowledge and your life and just.

Evan:

Everything overall, and it is all based around books.

Evan:

So if you are not already a reader, I highly suggest that you start reading now.

Evan:

If you take myself, for example, When I was very young, I loved reading.

Evan:

I used to read a lot as a child when I was in elementary school.

Evan:

So pretty much from, you know, kindergarten to fifth

Evan:

grade, I loved to read.

Evan:

And then I started to really lose the passion for reading come sixth grade all

Evan:

the way through high school, honestly.

Evan:

Uh, was terrible.

Evan:

Uh, in terms of finishing books, It was really a drag and it was just

Evan:

hard for me to get through books.

Evan:

So, you know, that really was not a good thing.

Evan:

Um, obviously there's so much benefit in books and you really do need to

Evan:

use books at throughout school to increase your knowledge because while

Evan:

your teacher is amazing, there is just so much knowledge contained in

Evan:

a book that is going to be beyond the knowledge of your teacher or, uh,

Evan:

whoever it is that you may come across.

Evan:

Right?

Evan:

Because each book is going to have so much knowledge on a very specific

Evan:

topic from not only the great.

Evan:

Greatest minds of our day and age right now, but even of people in the past.

Evan:

So if you are not reading books, highly, highly recommend that you start doing.

Evan:

So if you find books very dull and boring, I would suggest that you are not reading

Evan:

the right type of books for yourself.

Evan:

So I've come to find out that I have a very specific genre of books that I enjoy

Evan:

reading and yes, they are definitely related to the health and wellness field.

Evan:

Um, I literally enjoy reading health and wellness books.

Evan:

Uh, it is intriguing.

Evan:

It keeps my full attention and there are a few other books as well that are

Evan:

outside of the health and wellness realm.

Evan:

And as well as the kind of self-help, you know, uh, air quotes kind

Evan:

On the self-help because, um, I don't know if that's the right

Evan:

title for them, but nonetheless, I do enjoy those types of books.

Evan:

I do enjoy a little bit of, you know, fantasy and a few things here

Evan:

and there, but that is definitely a minority of the books that I read.

Evan:

However, nonetheless, I believe that if you do not enjoy reading, it's

Evan:

probably because you have not found the right type of book or genre.

Evan:

So.

Evan:

I would suggest that you start finding the right type of book or genre.

Evan:

And if you are already a reader, then that's Uh, just keep on doing

Evan:

so, and, uh, today's topic is going to help you to read 12 books a year.

Evan:

Right now.

Evan:

I know that doesn't sound like a ton of books.

Evan:

Uh, but if you think about it, for people who are reading zero books a year,

Evan:

Uh, 12 is obviously a massive step up, and that is a lot of knowledge

Evan:

that you can gain in just one year.

Evan:

Right.

Evan:

So before I really kick this off, I wanted to start off with a few people

Evan:

who are massive readers and they are really, really successful as well.

Evan:

So to kick it off, we have Warren buffet.

Evan:

Warren buffet is, uh, known for reading five to six hours each day.

Evan:

So.

Evan:

Uh, this is like a majority or not a majority, but that is a

Evan:

significant portion of the day, right?

Evan:

Five to six hours.

Evan:

Then you have bill gates who says that he reads a book per week.

Evan:

Okay.

Evan:

So that's over 50 books in a year.

Evan:

Uh, we're just trying to get to 12 here.

Evan:

And then you have mark Zuckerberg who vowed to read one book every,

Evan:

every other week to learn about cultures, beliefs, and technologies.

Evan:

You have Oprah Winfrey who obviously believed that reading was so

Evan:

powerful that she actually created her own massive book club, right?

Evan:

Oprah Winfrey Winfrey, a book club, right.

Evan:

Then you have mark Cuban who reads three hours every Uh, for a competitive edge.

Evan:

And finally you have Elon Musk who supposedly read for sometimes as long

Evan:

as 10 hours a day when he was a kid.

Evan:

So, yes, reading is extremely important.

Evan:

You can definitely see a trend going on here with very successful people

Evan:

and it is that they read, right?

Evan:

So there's this, uh, saying readers are leaders or leaders are readers either way.

Evan:

You want to put it, but it is very true.

Evan:

When you read, you are able to acquire so much knowledge from literally

Evan:

just the best minds of, like I said, this day and age and of the past.

Evan:

And on top of that, you're able to gain different perspectives.

Evan:

You know, you're able to find someone who is.

Evan:

Just the specialist, right?

Evan:

Like the number one person in that field.

Evan:

And they're sharing their knowledge through a book.

Evan:

You can.

Evan:

This is how we advance society, right?

Evan:

I mean, this is how we grow as a species.

Evan:

Uh, in terms of knowledge is through the sharing of information.

Evan:

You have these brilliant minds who are able to share their information with

Evan:

the whole and kind of upgrade all of society together, uh, through books.

Evan:

So absolutely absolutely start reading.

Evan:

Now, what I always do for myself personally, is I set a goal of reading.

Evan:

And this is a very simple goal, but just reading 10 pages a Okay.

Evan:

So the reason I've done that is because 10 pages is, you know, it's not daunting.

Evan:

It's not like trying to read 50 pages a day or something like that, which

Evan:

is obviously doable, but it will take a more significant amount of time.

Evan:

Whereas I tend to not really have a ton of time to devote, to, uh,

Evan:

doing things that are not related to maybe this podcast or, uh, you know,

Evan:

my business or whatever it may be.

Evan:

So.

Evan:

I really focus on trying to be as efficient as possible, but I

Evan:

see the value in books and I know that they are so, so important.

Evan:

So I make sure that even if it's only 10 pages a day, I will make sure that

Evan:

I at least get those 10 pages in.

Evan:

And on top of that, it usually takes me only 10 to 15 minutes

Evan:

to read those 10 pages.

Evan:

So, uh, when it comes to like my morning routine, like I

Evan:

said, it's all about efficiency.

Evan:

My morning routine usually involves, uh, meditation.

Evan:

Uh, reading and a little exercise, and I try to make those

Evan:

into 10 to 15 minute blocks.

Evan:

So I'm only doing, you know, 30 to 45 minutes of a morning routine

Evan:

because I feel like if I go over that, I start to kind of waste my day.

Evan:

So when I go ahead and start my day off with my meditation and my exercise

Evan:

and my reading, I'll do, you know, 10 to 15 minutes of meditation,

Evan:

uh, 10 to 15 minutes of reading and 10 to 15 minutes of exercise.

Evan:

And that is just a nice way to kind of get the day going.

Evan:

Obviously, if I have more time in the day, then I will devote more time to

Evan:

both all three of those activities.

Evan:

And I will read more than 10 pages, right.

Evan:

But that is making sure that I at least get my minimum 10 pages in each Now,

Evan:

when it comes to reading 12 books a year.

Evan:

It really is as easy as reading 10 pages a day.

Evan:

So the average book is about 300 pages.

Evan:

Okay.

Evan:

Obviously that's gonna vary, but the average one is 300 pages.

Evan:

Therefore, if you read 10 pages each day, it would take you 30 days to read a book.

Evan:

Obviously there's 12 months in a year and about.

Evan:

You know, usually about 30 days in a month.

Evan:

So that would equate to 12 books in a year.

Evan:

Uh, on top of that, the average person reads about 200 to 250 words

Evan:

per minute, averaging at about two minutes per page, which would

Evan:

be 20 minutes for the 10 pages.

Evan:

Personally, I don't think 20 minutes is a very long time to devote to something

Evan:

that's so beneficial and it's going to help move you forward in a massive way.

Evan:

Uh, but even on top of, you know, having to read 20 minutes a day,

Evan:

I would argue that as you start to read, you are going to become better

Evan:

and better and better at reading because obviously it's a skill, right?

Evan:

You're practicing it every single day.

Evan:

And so you're going to naturally become a faster reader.

Evan:

So that 20 minutes I think, is quite generous really with a time.

Evan:

But even if it, even if it did take you 20 minutes, that's really not

Evan:

that long to devote, to reading a book and obtaining that knowledge.

Evan:

But nonetheless, if you read consistently, you are going to become better at

Evan:

reading and you will become faster.

Evan:

And you will get to the point where those 10 pages might only take you 10 minutes

Evan:

to get through, which is realistically just such a short amount of time.

Evan:

And it's very, very beneficial, has a really high.

Evan:

Uh, return on investment, right?

Evan:

So.

Evan:

On top of that, if you are a slow reader, like I typically

Evan:

used to be quite a slow reader.

Evan:

Uh, there are a few tactics you can use to help speed up your reading.

Evan:

And I'll just quickly touch on these.

Evan:

Um, I'm not a master reader or anything, but these are some techniques

Evan:

that I've used and I've found some benefit with and they are too.

Evan:

For one, use a bookmark or even your finger to follow along

Evan:

with where you're reading.

Evan:

So you can kind of block off part of the page with your bookmark or whatever

Evan:

it may be, and just be right under the line that you're reading and what this

Evan:

does is it helps you stay focused.

Evan:

It helps you stay on track with what you're reading.

Evan:

And that way you can follow along and you're never getting mixed And

Evan:

I just find that it really helps me stay focused and more, uh, attentive

Evan:

to the book that I'm reading.

Evan:

On top of that, you can also try to read just slightly faster than you're used to.

Evan:

So sometimes when I would read, I would just find myself reading

Evan:

very slowly for no reason.

Evan:

Uh, so if I would just speed it up just a little bit, it doesn't have to

Evan:

be a lot, like you don't have to be speed reading, but if you just speed

Evan:

it up a slight amount, what ends up happening is I, you know, I thought,

Evan:

oh, I'm not going to understand what I'm reading, but it's actually the opposite

Evan:

If you start reading a little bit faster, you start having to pay closer

Evan:

attention to what you're reading.

Evan:

So as you start to read slightly faster, and you're following along with your

Evan:

hand, your full attention is on the book and you are You know, aware of what

Evan:

you're reading, because there's days when I would read so slow and I would

Evan:

get to the end of the page and then be like, oh my God, what did I even read?

Evan:

Because I was in my head thinking of random other stuff that was

Evan:

not pertaining to the book.

Evan:

So.

Evan:

The number one thing or so not the number one, but the few tips and tricks that

Evan:

I used are to use something to follow along with where I'm reading and also to

Evan:

read slightly faster to where it requires more attention and demands my focus.

Evan:

So use those hacks.

Evan:

If you, uh, if you are a slow reader and you want to read a little faster,

Evan:

And then my last note on reading books is.

Evan:

Yes, you can read.

Evan:

Saifai.

Evan:

Fantasy.

Evan:

You know, autobiographies, whatever kind of book you want to read.

Evan:

Honestly, I don't care.

Evan:

I think just reading in general is really, really good for you, but I would highly

Evan:

recommend that if you are, for example, an entrepreneur, or if you are in a

Evan:

specific field that you want to be better

Evan:

I would highly recommend reading books in that field because now not only are you.

Evan:

Obtaining the benefit of reading, but you're also acquiring knowledge that

Evan:

pertains to whatever your life's goal is or your, uh, whatever your job is.

Evan:

Right?

Evan:

So you're literally going to be bettering yourself in whatever

Evan:

it is that you're doing.

Evan:

So now you're not only just becoming more efficient at reading, but you're

Evan:

becoming more efficient in your job.

Evan:

You're becoming a more valuable asset in your job, right?

Evan:

Because you're acquiring this knowledge that your other workers,

Evan:

employees, or whatever might not have.

Evan:

So it's kind of giving you an upper.

Evan:

Edge as well on those people.

Evan:

And on your job and just kind of making you a.

Evan:

You know, a real, a master in your field.

Evan:

And so really that's for me, I enjoy reading the health and wellness books, but

Evan:

truly that is where I get some really deep and profound knowledge is through reading.

Evan:

Um, just a few books off the top of my head are.

Evan:

The James Nestor book, which is a breath, the science, the

Evan:

new science of the lost art.

Evan:

He talks.

Evan:

So in depth, on.

Evan:

The power of breathing and how it literally.

Evan:

Does so much in the body that it's more than just inhaling

Evan:

air to get oxygen into the body.

Evan:

It does so, so much more than that.

Evan:

It's really wild.

Evan:

Um, a great book.

Evan:

If you haven't read it, I highly recommend.

Evan:

But, you know, that was one of the books that I read.

Evan:

I read sound medicine, which is a really good one.

Evan:

There's another book called the antiviral gut.

Evan:

That is one that I'm currently working on.

Evan:

There's just so many beneficial books and you can really obtain

Evan:

so much knowledge and it really.

Evan:

Puts me at a place in my field where I feel that, you know, I have.

Evan:

More knowledge than maybe the average person would have.

Evan:

And so, uh, On top of also just enjoying the book.

Evan:

I now feel that I can apply it to my life and to my work and to

Evan:

benefit, you know, the lives of others as well through my reading.

Evan:

So definitely find a book that you enjoy, but if you're able to also

Evan:

find a book that pertains to whatever it is that you do in life, whether

Evan:

that is work or just a passion.

Evan:

Uh, whatever it may be, you can also read to improve yourself in that field as well.

Evan:

So, since we are talking about the power of the brain and using it to its

Evan:

best ability to make us smarter and all of that, I wanted to take a moment to

Evan:

talk about, uh, one of the companies that I work with called energy bits,

Evan:

and they do some incredible products.

Evan:

They literally have two ingredients and that is spirulina and chlorella.

Evan:

Right.

Evan:

There are allergies.

Evan:

There are whole food.

Evan:

And really specifically here, I'm talking about the spirulina.

Evan:

Alina.

Evan:

I love the spirulina because it is so beneficial for the mitochondria and

Evan:

your brain is packed with mitochondria.

Evan:

Literally there are so many mitochondria in there because it

Evan:

is a very energy demanding and energy hungry area of the body.

Evan:

And therefore it needs these powerhouses that create ATP to be

Evan:

creating a lot of energy up there.

Evan:

So when we take spirulina, we directly support those mitochondria and benefit

Evan:

them and help them to just work at their best, uh, You know, best capability.

Evan:

So if you are not already implementing some spirulina into your life,

Evan:

I highly recommend you do so.

Evan:

Energy bits is going to be one of the easiest ways probably to get the spirulina

Evan:

into your life because they come in these tiny little tablet forms and they are of a

Evan:

very high quality, highly recommend them.

Evan:

You get 20% off just for being a listener of the show as well.

Evan:

So definitely check out energy bits.

Evan:

I'll have them linked in the show notes.

Evan:

And, uh, yeah, I believe the code is there.

Evan:

I think they already.

Evan:

Uh, apply it.

Evan:

If you click on Uh, that link in the show notes.

Evan:

If not, I include the code there as well, so feel free to check them out.

Evan:

They are a really, really great company and I love the spirulina

Evan:

and chlorella that they produce, and it is just overall great for

Evan:

the body and specifically the brain.

Evan:

So keep your brain working at its best possible ability by taking some spirulina

Evan:

and reading some good books already.

Evan:

You guys, I hope you enjoy today's episode.

Evan:

Uh, sorry, probably ran a little bit longer than most of these mini

Evan:

episodes, but there's a little bit.

Evan:

To cover in there, but I do think you will.

Evan:

I receive a ton of benefit from implementing this 12

Evan:

books a year into your life.

Evan:

That is 12 books full of tons of knowledge that you can apply to, you

Evan:

know, whatever field it is that you're in, or even just your life in general.

Evan:

Uh, and maybe to

Evan:

Escape, uh, to a fantasy land, uh, whatever it may be,

Evan:

it's going to be beneficial.

Evan:

So definitely go ahead and try reading these 12 books a year by

Evan:

just taking it 10 pages at a time.

Evan:

If you want to read more, of course you can.

Evan:

Uh, but that's a great place to start.

Evan:

And if you have received any benefit from this podcast

Evan:

episode today, it goes so far.

Evan:
