A Sharp Tongue – Daily Wisdom

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.  We are on Day 1841 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy.  Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget. Today’s quote is from Wisdom-Trek, and it is, "A sharp tongue can cut your own throat."

A Sharp Tongue

We need to be careful how we talk about other people, places, or organizations. Although the tongue can bring healing and encouragement, it can also bring destruction and death to others. Ultimately what we plant with our tongues will be harvested in our lives. If we plant love, compassion, encouragement, and kindness, we will harvest those same in our lifetime. On the other hand, if we plant gossip, slander, hatred, and discouraging words, we will harvest the same in our lives. Therefore, let us build up others, not tear them down. Let us show love to others, not hatred. Let us do all we can to build God’s kingdom here on earth by displaying that we are His imagers. Otherwise, the throat that we cut with our sharp and nasty tongue will be our own. God’s Word is filled with exhortations on the proper and improper use of the tongue.  The best overall narrative is found in: James 3:1-12 Dear brothers and sisters, not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach will be judged more strictly. Indeed, we all make many mistakes.  For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire.  It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body.  It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself. People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue.  It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth.  Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water? Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs?  No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring.
