Welcome back to The becoming the big knee podcast. I'm your host,
Speaker:
 00:00:09
Djemilah Birnie, and you are tuning into minute madness, a
Speaker:
 00:00:12
little dose of epicness, delivered in five minutes or
Speaker:
 00:00:15
less.
Speaker:
 00:00:19
Me, and I wanted to talk to you about training your brain to
Speaker:
 00:00:25
listen to you training your brain for success. Have you ever
Speaker:
 00:00:29
experienced a situation where you tell yourself, you're going
Speaker:
 00:00:33
to do something, whether that be a workout, whether that be your
Speaker:
 00:00:37
something to do with your business, starting a podcast, on
Speaker:
 00:00:40
anything, whether that be reading a book, or going to bed
Speaker:
 00:00:45
at a certain time, or waking up at a certain time, have you
Speaker:
 00:00:47
experienced what you tell yourself, you're going to do
Speaker:
 00:00:49
something, and then you don't do it, and then you don't follow
Speaker:
 00:00:52
through. While the problem is, is that you have trained your
Speaker:
 00:00:56
brain not to trust yourself, when you say you're going to do
Speaker:
 00:01:00
something, and this happens, this is built through the small
Speaker:
 00:01:05
actions that we take. So your brain starts to not trust the
Speaker:
 00:01:11
things that you say you're going to do. So those are those small
Speaker:
 00:01:14
things, like waking up at a certain time, to those big
Speaker:
 00:01:18
things, like creating more success in your business, or
Speaker:
 00:01:22
buying that new house or whatever that goal is that
Speaker:
 00:01:26
you're you're trying to achieve for yourself, right. So the way
Speaker:
 00:01:32
that we build this trust in what we say we're going to do is
Speaker:
 00:01:38
through the little things is through those small, little
Speaker:
 00:01:42
things. And that's one of the reasons why I talk about you
Speaker:
 00:01:45
know, not using the snooze on your alarm. Because when you set
Speaker:
 00:01:50
the alarm for a certain time, you're telling yourself, I want
Speaker:
 00:01:54
to wake up at this time. And then when you go and hit the
Speaker:
 00:01:58
snooze button, you are starting your day off by breaking a
Speaker:
 00:02:02
promise to yourself, you're starting your day off by saying,
Speaker:
 00:02:06
Oh, I can't accomplish what it is that I said I wanted to
Speaker:
 00:02:11
accomplish putting it off, right. And that gets us into
Speaker:
 00:02:15
that state of not accomplishing the things that we say we want
Speaker:
 00:02:19
to and procrastinating on the things that we desire right away
Speaker:
 00:02:23
right from the get go from when you wake up. So how can you
Speaker:
 00:02:27
change this? How can you start listening to the promises that
Speaker:
 00:02:32
you've that you say you're going to do? How can you start
Speaker:
 00:02:35
teaching your brain to trust you? Well, it's what it's built.
Speaker:
 00:02:41
The distrust is built through those small habits, the trust is
Speaker:
 00:02:44
built through those small habits as well. As you began to build
Speaker:
 00:02:48
this back up, it's very simple, you just need to follow through
Speaker:
 00:02:51
with the things that you say you're going to do. And a very
Speaker:
 00:02:54
simple way to do this is to say you're going to do something
Speaker:
 00:02:59
right before you're about to do something. So say you are going
Speaker:
 00:03:03
to work out well, as you're pulling up to the gym, tell
Speaker:
 00:03:07
yourself, I'm going to work out right now.
Speaker:
 00:03:11
And then do it and follow through with it. And if you are
Speaker:
 00:03:17
going to read a book, as you're pulling out the book, you're
Speaker:
 00:03:21
prepared to read, tell yourself, I'm going to read right now, if
Speaker:
 00:03:26
you're going to start working on a project, as you pull out your
Speaker:
 00:03:28
computer, tell yourself, I'm going to work on this project
Speaker:
 00:03:32
for the next 20 minutes. And then do it right. And then the
Speaker:
 00:03:36
other big thing is that alarm and this is one that I know can
Speaker:
 00:03:40
be a little challenging to overcome when you have been in
Speaker:
 00:03:43
that habit of snoozing for years, like I know a lot of
Speaker:
 00:03:48
people are. But that is a really huge one is when that alarm goes
Speaker:
 00:03:54
off. That is the time that you intend to wake up and you need
Speaker:
 00:03:57
to get up. That's the first thing that's happening in the
Speaker:
 00:04:00
morning. And when you're not listening to yourself. And that
Speaker:
 00:04:03
intention that's just setting you up for the rest of the day
Speaker:
 00:04:06
to not listen to yourself. So those are my tricks on teaching
Speaker:
 00:04:11
your brain how to trust you so that when you say you're going
Speaker:
 00:04:15
to do something, your brain is working on your side, and it
Speaker:
 00:04:18
actually believes you and is going to assist you in getting
Speaker:
 00:04:21
that thing done. Right. So if you want to start training your
Speaker:
 00:04:25
brain to trust you for those big things for the things that are
Speaker:
 00:04:30
those needle mover tasks, then you got to start with those
Speaker:
 00:04:33
small things. And the way I suggest it is to start building
Speaker:
 00:04:38
that trust is to literally tell yourself that you are going to
Speaker:
 00:04:42
do something right before you're going to do it so you know that
Speaker:
 00:04:46
you're going to follow through and you know it's going to
Speaker:
 00:04:49
happen and through these small little things. Your brain is
Speaker:
 00:04:52
going to start trusting you and then remember to not snooze your
Speaker:
 00:04:56
alarm.
