Can’t have it both ways. God and money can’t both be the final determining factor in the decisions we make. Only one gets that coveted spot. Only one will get to have the last word. Thinking of decisions, what determines your next action? When it’s really on the line—and a single factor stands between you and a significant outcome, what tips the scales? Is it money? Maybe it’s attention? Convenience? God? What is it that ultimately calls the shots? Jesus’ focus in this passage is money. Somehow, money has a way of distracting and confusing us—it’s a kind of fluid, malleable, intoxicating power. What is your relationship, my relationship, with it? What power do we allow it to have?
