Internships Open Doors: Her summer in public service taught her more than any class could. Real-world exposure, research projects, and community engagement have prepared her for her path in dentistry—and emphasizing the value of saying yes even when you feel unsure.

Authenticity & Faith Fuel Ambition: Perseverance and faith remain central to her story. Using her voice on social platforms and in the community, she's learned the power of showing up unapologetically and supporting others—especially those who aren’t always heard.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Good afternoon, Franklin County. This is your county administrator, Kenneth Wilson, bringing you the HBCU edition of Talk of the county part two. Back several months ago, we had the opportunity to conversate and kick it with Justin Bivens, a graduate of North Carolina A and T. And today I'm pleased to be kicking it with Kennedy Hampton, who attends Hampton University.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes. Hello. How are you?

Kenneth Wilson [:

I am good.

Kennedy Hampton [:

That's good.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So. So you ready to just chop it up?

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah, let's do this thing and let's.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Just talk about topics of interest.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes, sir.

Kenneth Wilson [:

To the young people today in these trying times.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Let's do it.

Kenneth Wilson [:

But these optimistic times.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Right, right.

Kenneth Wilson [:

You know, we keeping hope alive, we keeping aspiration alive. And with young, bright, electric people like you.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Oh, thank you.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I have no doubt that our.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Thank you.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So tell our podcast listeners a little bit about yourself and what led you to make the selection of the university that you chose and what has been your biggest surprises since attending there and what things that you expected that Hampton University truly delivered upon.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes, absolutely. Thank you for the question. Hello, everyone. My name is Kennedy Hampton, and I am a bio pre med major currently at the real HU Hampton University. And one of the things that draw me to Hampton, I would say, is their campus ministry team. I actually toured Hampton twice. I went on the Gaddis Foundation HBCU tour a couple of times while back, and then I also went to their Admitted Students Day. Now I think it was Admitted Students Day as well as a tour that really sold me.

Kennedy Hampton [:

The campus is beautiful. It's right on the waterfront. But it was really the campus ministry that I was just so drawn to. And I haven't really seen that aspect at many other HBCUs or college or universities. And they were bold about their faith. Hampton is bold about their faith. And while looking for a college, I was looking for something that would be a good fit and feel like home. And so just walking on the campus, I felt exactly that the people were welcoming, the aesthetic of the campus was nice, and I just felt very at home.

Kennedy Hampton [:

And that's the sense you want to feel when looking for a college or university. And yeah, I think that's pretty much what sold me was their campus ministry team.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Campus ministry team. What else is there on Hampton's campus that is a unique feature.

Kennedy Hampton [:

So I would say a unique feature of my school would be Legacy Park. Legacy park is where we have honorable people from the past. Barack Obama, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, just inspirational leaders that we can look up to and kind of. And it looks right out on the waterfront. So it's really nice. And I just go to sit and either do homework, I go to shoot content sometimes because I do believe in using your platform to your best advantage to inspire others and just advocate for those who don't have a voice to advocate for themselves. And so that's just my hangout spot to shoot content, relax. And I really enjoy Legacy Park.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Is the lake on campus surrounded? Is it in the center of the campus or it goes out to the shore?

Kennedy Hampton [:

So it does go out to the shore. We have a spot called the Hampton Waterfront and it's kind of connected to that. We have sailboats and I think we actually have a sailing class, a club too. So, yep, it's connected, but it also goes out to the shore as well.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Okay, talk about what drew you to pursue a degree that will prepare you for medical school. As we know, HBCUs to this day produce an overwhelming share of professionals. Doctors, dentists, lawyers, engineers. That look like me and you.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Right? Right. Yeah. And so dentistry has always been a dream of mine. Growing up, my mom has had sorors or even friends who were dentists who look like both of us. And just being surrounded by them and seeing the work that they do in the community has really inspired me to become a dentist and study in that field. Yes, the courses can be rigorous. Yes, the course can be challenging. However, I feel as though once you have a calling on your life, you have to just kind of be obedient and abide by that calling.

Kennedy Hampton [:

And I think that being surrounded by like minded individuals, again, black women who look like us, it's just really important. And I think that that's really shaped my path and it shaped my major, it shaped who I am today. And I'm also so thankful for Commissioner Crawley for putting me in this position to intern this summer. Because of that, I've been able to go to Franklin County Public Health and kind of get my hands in that field. And then I've also been able to shadow at dental clinics. Excuse me. Over at Columbus Public Dental. Columbus Public Dentistry.

Kennedy Hampton [:

And so that's been great as well, shadowing Dr. K and just really kind of seeing how I can possibly be her and work in marginalized communities, provide accessible healthcare and high quality healthcare. And so that's all I wanna do. That's my dream and I think so.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I might see you on the Mobile Dental Clinic.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes.

Kenneth Wilson [:

One day you gonna be the one in the Mobile Dental Clinic getting out? Yes. Possibly Pediatric dentistry interests you?

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes. Pediatric dentistry is the goal. I thought about Doing just broad dentistry and, you know, working with adults. But I think I have a love for kids, and so I work really well with kids is what I've learned. So I think I'm gonna go into peds.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Podcast listeners. That was just a wild guess, a gut instinct. We didn't script that. I think pediatric dentistry is what she would be. Be good at. Cause you have that type of electric smile that when kids come into the dentist, they don't be wanting to be there.

Kennedy Hampton [:

They don't.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So they need someone to just like, you know, be smiling and say, I have some bubble gum laughing gas.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Exactly.

Kenneth Wilson [:

You know, to get them to, you know. Cause otherwise they ain't taking that bubble gum gas. They ain't letting nobody put nothing on their face.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Exactly. Yeah. And so it just takes patience. And I think you have to have a love for children to actually work with children. So. Yeah, if you don't love the work, then I think, you know.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Yeah, Yeah. I suggest getting some knee pads when you first start.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah.

Kenneth Wilson [:

They be kicking at everything in the dental chair.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I've seen some interesting, interesting patients in that aspect. So.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Yeah, yeah. It's not.

Kennedy Hampton [:

It gets real.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Yeah. I have not ran into a little kid that just said, I love the dentist. I just can't wait to go to the dentist and say, open my mouth. Go, ah. You know?

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah. And I think that's also why it's important to kind of create that environment that they can kind of look at the dentist and say, oh, I'm excited to go for my next appointment. If you don't create that environment for them, then it's like, I want six feet away.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I like. I like to have conversations forecasted out into your future. And we already have talked about this. I'm already visioning you reaching your dream of being a dentist. So, Kennedy, you're a dentist. There's something that doctors have when they give a kid a shot. I don't think dentists are supposed to do that. Or maybe doctors have stopped this, like having dum dum pop suckers or something.

Kenneth Wilson [:

They give kids candy after they get a shot. Kid be crying, they give them candy. You can't give them no candy. They bad for their teeth. You gotta give them a toothbrush and some floss.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Right, Right.

Kenneth Wilson [:

And a little dinosaur or something. Maybe a little dinosaur toy. Dinosaur or something.

Kennedy Hampton [:

That would be.

Kenneth Wilson [:

What's gonna be your strategy? What's gonna be your strategy? What's your innovative thought of how you gonna have kids lead a dentist saying, I wanna go see, I wanna Go back and see Ms. Dr. Kennedy.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes. And so I haven't exactly thought it out all the way, but to give you an answer, I think that I would probably say sugar free lollipops. They would be sugar free. And I also think that I would have just array of color, all types of color schemes. And I think that they actually. Kids love leaving the dentist with prizes. So definitely a treasure box full of all sorts of goodies and just all the things, fidgets, spinners, and the whole nine.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So you gotta. That's playing.

Kennedy Hampton [:

That's a plan.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Because you gotta. You know, you gotta have a strategy here.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Right, of course.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Is there a particular. You talked about some mentors. You said some of your mothers sores of the sorority. Delta Sigma Theta incorporated our dentist. So you have been exposed in that way. Mm. Do you think you'll join a Greek organization?

Kennedy Hampton [:

I've thought about it. I have put some thought. It's funny you asked that. My mother, she is a big advocate. She calls me. When my freshman year, she called me a lot and she was like, hey, like, have you heard anything about the Deltas or, you know, they have. When they have interest meetings? She's like, are you going to the interest meeting? Have you thought about going to the interest meeting? And I'm like, I'll think about it. I don't really know if that pathway is for me just yet, but the answer, I tell everyone is I'll think about it.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I have a lot of thinking and praying to do. Yes.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Yeah. You can see everything.

Kennedy Hampton [:

So I definitely.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Ain't nothing wrong with that.

Kennedy Hampton [:

It's back there.

Kenneth Wilson [:

How has you seen your generation shape and influence government and public service today?

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah. Thank you for the question. I think that our generation does a. We are very creative. Let me say that. I think that my generation is very creative and very unique in ways that I haven't seen before. And it's beneficial to the government as well as just simply advocating for things that need to be advocated on in today's society. And so ways that we do that is back to social media.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I think that we have leaned on social media a lot more in this new generation. And it's in a positive way. From what I've seen, whether that's Instagram reels or on threads or TikTok has been the new. The new, like, way of spreading information. And so I think that me personally speaking on my behalf, I try my best to do what I can to use my platform to inspire others and just kind of speak on topics that I think needs to be touched on whether that's faith, school, reality, balancing faith in school. And yeah, I think that's probably the most creative way.

Kenneth Wilson [:

How do you see yourself contributing civically and politically as a dental professional? Fast forward and getting to that point.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah, I think just using my voice, I have a very unapologetic characteristic in me. And so I feel as though looking ahead a couple or a few years from now, I see myself really being hands on in my community, working on those marginalized communities though ones. And also, so I would like to have my own practice called Cherise Miles. And I would love to work with patients with Medicaid. And so that's been like a goal of mine. And so I think that I can use that platform, God willingly to kind of reach out to those communities, let them know that I'm here for them. Because there's not many, too many dental clinics or practices that focus specifically on that, you know, group of people. So.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yep, yeah.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Giving back.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes, for sure.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Doing well and doing good. In your view, what could your university do differently to better support students in their academic aim? You talked about how positive it is to have a ministry that's on campus that is available to build faith.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Right.

Kenneth Wilson [:

And with build faith come perseverance.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Right.

Kenneth Wilson [:

With perseverance comes success.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah. And so I think that Hampton University or even any other college or university could do a better way of supporting their students by I think there should be a requirement to internships. Because with internships there's a can of worms opening, there's so many other doors opening opportunities. And it not only builds, as you said, character and perseverance, but I think that with that requirement we are learning more, not just throughout the school year, but during the summer. And we are getting well prepared for that future career path and whatever it looks like for those students. And I also think going back to campus ministry, that we should do a well enough job of inspiring other colleges or universities. Hey, campus ministry is where it's at. And it's really a dope concept.

Kennedy Hampton [:

It allows students to really connect with other peers and build their own nick community. Because a knit community is that gets you so far throughout college if you don't have your group of people that you can lean on when times, because college is not always easy. So if you don't have that knit group that you can go to, it's like you kind of feel alone and then you're in your dorm and then it just goes down a whole thing. So I think that we should do a better job of Letting colleges and universities know that, hey, campus ministry is where it's at and it allows students to publicly voice their faith and do that with other peers. And that is cool. I think it's cool.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So, yeah, yeah. I mean, I know that there are so many high profile athletes at the collegiate level that are expressing their faith in a very outright way.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Right.

Kenneth Wilson [:

And they're taking that to the NFL level. So now it's becoming more accepted, per se.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Whereas before a player would do it. Now. Okay. You know, God roots to everybody on the athletic field. So you're talking about faith. You know, who's gonna choose God rooting for both sides.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah, yeah. I think it's time to dig deeper. I think that we should really. If we should be using our platforms, if we are using them for anything, that's the one thing we should be using them for, is to dig deeper into our faith and unapologetically just show the world that without God, without Jesus, like, none of this is possible.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So, yep, you're seeing a lot of that. Two prominent former Buckeye quarterbacks are really leaders in expressing faith and showing faith.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes.

Kenneth Wilson [:

And I personally admire. Because faith can become weakened when you're popular and everything is there for you and you could drift away from it until injury and then you may come back. But what's cool is stay connected while you up. And then when you talk about when those trials and tribulations come, you have something that you never strayed away from and you never fell back on.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Right, exactly. And there's a. I forget the name of it, but there's a song and it highlights the fact that, you know, when you are at your highest, that's when the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. And so it's so pivotal, it's so important that we stay grounded in our faith, stay rooted, stay connected to Jesus, because without that connection, it's like you have to. You have to nurture it in order for there to be a real relationship there. So, yeah, fame.

Kenneth Wilson [:

There is fame is a tough thing. It is tough thing to deal with.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah.

Kenneth Wilson [:

You know, popular rap song, More money, more Problems. But we all, in a capitalist society, we are aspirational and we measure so many things upon that material wealth. And tell me if this is not something I hear, particularly from your generation, Kennedy, talk about the bag. Secure the bag. Secure the bag.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes. You know, I think that it's important to secure the bag because, you know, money does fund lifestyle. And so it's just about, you know, how to get to the bag. How to secure the bag and really going out with that plan or whatever that looks like for you. And so for me, getting to the bag or securing the bag means balancing life while also funding your lifestyle. And so actually, I work two jobs, so I'm at Foot Locker, and I also have this internship, and so that's how I secure my bag. And, yeah, I have my parents, of course. You know, when times get hard in school and you want to claim the broke college student, you go, you lean on your parents heavily.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Love you guys. Mom and dad.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Shout out.

Kennedy Hampton [:

So shout out to Kenny Hampton and Rolanda Hampton. Those two. When I tell you those two are my top two inspirations in the whole world. In the whole world. They. They're great. They instilled in me so much. How to be a servant leader, how to love one another, how Jesus loves people.

Kennedy Hampton [:

They. Yeah, they teach me how to secure the bag. Okay. They both do. So big shout out to them.

Kenneth Wilson [:

All right, I appreciate that. Tell us about your internship that you've had here at the county and some of the lessons you've learned and some of the things you've enjoyed most about the internship and why you already have indicated you'll be back.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes, I will be back. This, as I was telling Administrator Wilson before the show started, is that this is just the end of the season. This one big show. This is the end of my season, and season two comes in December. So I cannot wait to return. I cannot wait to return. This internship has been nothing but great opportunity. I have told Commissioner Crawley that there was never been a day that I've left this office or even the Columbus Zoo or combos with Crawley, because my office did look kind of different throughout the summer, which I was so grateful for.

Kennedy Hampton [:

But I told her, I said, there's never been a day that I left this office where I was overwhelmed with love, joy, and insight. And it may sound like cliche or to think that, you know, it was just so great, and I had all these great moments, but that's really. That's the reality of my internship, is that it was so great, and I just. I learned so much. She's tasked me with so much. She really trusted me with a lot of projects. A lot of projects. For example, we attended Uplift her, the wellness event for women.

Kennedy Hampton [:

And it was the first week of my internship, and she was like, hey, Kennedy, you're going to be staffing me. And so I said, staffing you? I just got here. What do you mean, I'm going to be staffing you? And she was like, you're going to staff me and we're going to do the whole program together. And Ari and Dala was just looking and I was looking at them and I didn't see fit. I didn't see fit. And they saw fit that I was prepared enough and equipped to staff her. The first week of my internship and it went great. It went great.

Kennedy Hampton [:

And I'm just so grateful that I was in a position surrounded by like minded individuals who have obviously seen more than me and who were able to trust me, to instill in me that I had what it took to write three research papers on oral health as it relates to maternal and infants and food deserts and food insecurity. So I've done a lot. We ended up. What did we do? We went to the Columbus Zoo this summer for an inside look on their new. What they're doing over there. And then we also. Sorry, give me a second. That's how much has happened.

Kenneth Wilson [:

We went to see the North America exhibit.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes, yes. We went to the North America exhibit and the sea otters and things.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Was the black bear out?

Kennedy Hampton [:

The black bear was not out. We did get to the elephant though, who was. Just had her baby. So that was pretty cool. But yeah, it's been a summer for one. Definitely one for the books. Memories have been made that I will cherish forever and ever. And I am just.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I'm leaving. Today's my last day. And so I'm leaving this internship with a heart filled with gratitude because if it was not for Commissioner Crawley, I don't think I would have gotten as much experience this past summer going into my sophomore year of college. And I'm just forever grateful.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So on that note, what advice would you give to other students thinking about working in the public sector and applying for an internship like the one you've had?

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes, for sure. It's funny you say that because I've actually heard from students that are like, hey, how can I apply? Or what? Where? How did you hear about the internship? Or what is your major even? And so something that I will say to you all is, don't short yourself. Never short yourself. And to go through with everything at your full capacity or at your full potential. Something my dad always told me growing up was get to the door. If you can get to the door, you've already met the hardest part of that day. So just prepare yourself for anything that comes your way because this was totally unexpected. I was not positioned here intentionally.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I actually didn't have an internship up until early June, which is pretty late for a college student looking for an internship. So yeah, never short yourself. Trust in God's plan. We never see the full picture. And so he always gives us a glimpse, gives us a glimpse of what that picture looks like. And so that's where the faith comes in. It's like you have to have faith in him that he's going to do his big one. He's going to do his big one every time.

Kennedy Hampton [:

And to not to sell yourself short. If your boss says that you're going to be staffing her the first week of your internship, trust that your boss has your back and she knows what she's doing. If she tasks you with however many assignments, know that she sees something in you that you can't see in yourself. And so that's really all I want to say to you all is to just do everything at your full potential because you got this. And even when you think you don't got this, people around you can see that in you.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So pressure creates diamonds. It does start off as pieces of coal.

Kennedy Hampton [:

It does.

Kenneth Wilson [:

What do you do to truly unwind, particularly during the school year?

Kennedy Hampton [:

That's. I love that question. I'm all about unwinding and self care in itself. I think unwinding is a part of self care. So I guess the biggest thing for me to unwind would be getting my nails done. I love to get my nails done. I genuinely enjoy it. Something else that I would say is either watching movies or getting a massage.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Those would be my top three if I had a top three when it came to really prioritizing my self care and really prioritizing, you know, unwinding after a long week of exams or lab reports because it can get crazy, it can get pretty hectic. But that's when you just life be life and life be life in it. Definitely be life in. And so when those moments come, I think it's important to understand what you like and what your body needs when it comes to self care. And so prioritizing that is really big for me, especially being a student in college. So yeah.

Kenneth Wilson [:

What's been the best movie you saw recently?

Kennedy Hampton [:

Hmm, Recently.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Oh, what's your classic movie? What's your what movie? What's your what's your go to that you just watched?

Kennedy Hampton [:

My go to that you just watched Almost. I have two go to's so my first go to I would say is Victorious. It's a discontinued Nickelodeon. I think it's discontinued Nickelodeon show. It's on Netflix right now. And so I've been Binge watching that pretty much all summer. And my second one would be the Resident on Netflix. Really, really, really good shows.

Kennedy Hampton [:

The Resident is about a. It's like a spin off of Grey's Anatomy, I would say, but a more modern version. So I enjoy those two shows. When I have some free time on the weekend, I watch those. What about you?

Kenneth Wilson [:

What show? I like comedy.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Okay.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I'm big on comedy.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I like all of the Friday series with Chris Tucker. I like Mike Epps.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, pretty much any of the comics. I think I've only seen all of them, you know? Cause I just like the.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, comedy's good.

Kenneth Wilson [:

You gotta. Yeah, you gotta witness the conversation between Big Worm and Smokey. It's one that has a great, great lesson built into it.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Okay. I'm gonna have to check that out.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I'm a big fan of quotes, so I just, like, have these quotes that just come from these odd places sometimes.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Okay.

Kenneth Wilson [:

And it's. You know, I can give you a quote from some famous individual that's on a Mount Rushmore.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah.

Kenneth Wilson [:

And then I can give you a quote from somebody that is a rap artist or an athlete. My quotes come from all over.

Kennedy Hampton [:

That's funny. It reminds me of my dad's side. They will be in mid conversation and they will just say a quote from a movie or just from some kind of entertainment field. And I'm like, where did that even come from?

Kenneth Wilson [:

Yeah, my dream. I could just like, if I could be a comedian, that would be the coolest thing. Why could you?

Kennedy Hampton [:

You know, I could see it all.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Day, all the time. Just.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Just don't take myself seriously. Just, you know.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah. I think you. That might have to be like a side something.

Kenneth Wilson [:

It is therapeutic. I don't know if I'm funny or not.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I think you're pretty funny.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I try my best, but, you know, music. What's on your playlist?

Kennedy Hampton [:

So I have a variety. Not too big of a. Of a variety when it comes to a favorite artist. I would say this person appears on my playlist a whole lot. It'd probably be Drake. Drake is my ideal artist. My whole playlist. Every.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Every playlist that I've made doesn't have a Drake song on it. So I think that he's definitely. Probably. He, like, inspires a lot of my playlists. Yeah.

Kenneth Wilson [:

You like Kendrick Lamar?

Kennedy Hampton [:

I'm not really a Drake.

Kenneth Wilson [:

That's why we just chopping up.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Like I said, I'm really a big Kendrick fan with their whole thing. You know I stood 10 toes. I'm all for Drake.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Yeah, that would make sense, really. So you with Dre? Yeah. So they not like us just kind of.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I don't really care for that song. It's definitely not my favorite. The only time I actually listen to it is when it's on the radio and it's just. They just. They can't get over the song. And so I'm like, whenever we get over that bridge of and it dies down, I'll be glad.

Kenneth Wilson [:

The beef. The beef. The beef.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah. Actually, Drake is coming. He's going on tour again, so hopefully he comes to either VA or Columbus so I can see him again because that was a dope concert. I went both nights when he was here.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Both nights.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I did.

Kenneth Wilson [:

You a fan? You a fan? You a fan?

Kennedy Hampton [:

I am. I'm definitely. If I'm a fan of anybody, it would be. Music wise. It would be Drake. Yes.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Drake got a song called God's Plane.

Kennedy Hampton [:

He does. Mm.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Okay, now, female artist.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Okay, female artist. I did see Beyonce this summer, but she's not my favorite. Beyonce's not my favorite, but I would say top female artist. For me, that's a good question. So if the vibe is R and B, R and B. I would say Summer Walker. Maybe she makes really good music. I would say Summer Walker.

Kennedy Hampton [:

She has a lot of appearances in my playlist.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I like Heart of a Woman. I ain't gonna lie.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Heart of a Woman is good.

Kenneth Wilson [:

What do you know about Heart of a Woman? Back in the fall? That was my song back in the fall.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes. Heart of a Woman. That's a good song. You know, Mariah the Scientist has been making some really good music too, lately. You know Mariah the scientist.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I'm sure I heard her.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah, yeah, she's making some. She's coming up. You might hear her on the radio.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I've been leaning towards news and sports heavily over the last years, but I have a catalog of music in my head still from all those years. I kind of now with so much that's in the news, I've been leaning towards jazz with heart and soul type music blended in.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah. See, I like.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I like Anthony Hamilton.

Kennedy Hampton [:

He's good.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I like Mary J. Blige, longtime fan. Fan, fan, fan, fan.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I do like Mary. She's. Yeah, her. In those boots, you know? Yeah.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Make you wake up in the mirror, say, good morning, gorgeous.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Exactly. Yes. I'm not. I'm not really a fan of that song. I think she could have kept that one.

Kenneth Wilson [:

You don't like that one. It was about self care and uplifting. Cause all that pain and drama.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah, I think that she had.

Kenneth Wilson [:

She needed that.

Kennedy Hampton [:

She has some other good hits.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Like, okay, what's up? What's. We probably gonna be on the same page. What is it? She got a catalog.

Kennedy Hampton [:

She does, she does. I'm trying to think. It's. It's slipping my mind.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Come on. It's somewhere down in the lungs. Come on, bring it out, bring it out, bring it out.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I forget the name of the. Of the song.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Is it a new one? Is it?

Kennedy Hampton [:

No, all of her hits that I like are older.

Kenneth Wilson [:

It ain't going back to the four. One one. You ain't going back there, is it?

Kennedy Hampton [:

I think so.

Kenneth Wilson [:

When she had come back, Boots on, maybe my Life.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I do like that one. I do like that one. I would have to look. Let me pull out my catalog real quick.

Kenneth Wilson [:

We gotta do this podcast, Talk of the county first. We gonna go to. We don't wanna get this wrong. We wanna hear this.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Listen. Yeah, just fine. That's one that I like. I really like that one.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Do do, do do. Yep, yep, yep.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Got it. That's a good one.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Got it, Got it.

Kennedy Hampton [:

That's a good one. Either that or oh, I'm going down.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Since you ain't around.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Now you gonna have me crown my. My whole world is what? Oh, that's a good one.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Yeah, that's a good one.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I really like that one. Or I Can Love youe. Yeah, I like that one a lot too. See, she has some appearances in my playlist.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Yeah, yeah, I know.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Ooh, I am. That one was really good. I like that song a lot. Yeah, yeah, I was like.

Kenneth Wilson [:

It's like classics.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So you kind of. You. You kind of. You kind of classic R and B, neo, soulish.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I definitely like R and B. Our new generation, our new R and B is pretty good, but nothing beats the old. I think nothing beats old R and B, Joe. Who else? There's a couple others. I steal my dad's playlist from time to time.

Kenneth Wilson [:

You like Mews Soul Child?

Kennedy Hampton [:

He's good. Yes. Yep, yep. I actually met him one time.

Kenneth Wilson [:

He came for real. He's been a part of Real Man, Real Talk.

Kennedy Hampton [:

He has, Yep, he has. Mm.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So vacations. Where do you like to go for vacations? Now, sometimes you have to follow your parents itinerary.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Sometimes.

Kenneth Wilson [:

But most of the time, if you got your own itinerary, where does Kenny Hamilton want to go?

Kennedy Hampton [:

So if I could plan my own itinerary my own vacation, I would either go to Santorini or I would visit Hawaii. I've always wanted to go to Hawaii As a little girl, like swimming with the pigs has been pretty fascinating to me.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Swimming with the pigs? Not dolphins, pigs.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah, that's an excursion they do in Hawaii.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Until I gotta Google that. I thought I had. I thought I was filled with all kind of worthless facts in my head. I don't think I seen swimming with pigs yet.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah, it was cool as a little girl thinking, you know, swimming with pigs would be cool. But I grew up to realize they're.

Kenneth Wilson [:

The cleanest pigs I would have ever seen.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Mm. They're not that clean.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I thought they were water. They in.

Kennedy Hampton [:

It gets. It gets dirty. So that's why as a little girl, that would be cool. But now I think I probably. I think I'm cool.

Kenneth Wilson [:

They swim in muddy water?

Kennedy Hampton [:

Well, no, they're in the ocean and so you're swimming with them but you know, as.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Pigs do.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah, they discard you.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Yeah.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Okay, see, I think now we're mind mouthing.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I got you.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes. So.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So, okay. We like Hawaii is beautiful. Otherwise, tell us about the first spot. But tell the podcast is about the first spot. Cause we want people to be inspirational. We want. The goal of Talk of the county is to inform, inspire with a little entertainment.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Sprinkle. I love that. So Santorini seems pretty cool. I've seen a lot of Pinterest board pictures and so I'm like, hmm, maybe I need a long flowy dress and take my pictures in Santorini and eat pasta and all the kind of fun things. But if you guys go to Pinterest and type in Santorini, you'll see like the whole vision of what I'm visioning and then we'll be mind mouthing. So I think they have to do some research.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Santorini. Look up Santorini. What part of the world is Santorini in?

Kennedy Hampton [:

Is it Greece, I think? Yeah, Santorini, Greece. Yep.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Greece. Okay.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yep, yep.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Santorini, Greece. Long flowy dress and vision.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes. And there's a swim out pool in your own room. And most of them, I believe, especially if you're traveling and you book a room, I think they have most like swim out pool rooms and all the luxurious things.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Santorini. I just want to go to Dubai now. Dubai, that's like ordinary. Yes, but you, you brought the heat. Santorini on Talk of the County.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Somewhere to go.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah, they gotta do their research.

Kenneth Wilson [:

What's the climate like? What's the climate? It's Probably.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I think it's nice weather. Medium weather. Better than Ohio weather.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Well, that we love. L O H I O. But let's say we ain't winning no medals for weather.

Kennedy Hampton [:

No, we're not.

Kenneth Wilson [:

We ain't winning no medals for weather in Ohio. We love the Buckeye State, but we ain't winning nothing on no weather.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah, yeah. Love the Buckeyes, but I don't know what we're gonna do with our weather. It's just. It's really bipolar. It can never make its mind up. Exactly.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So you like mountainous places? Beachfront.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I'm not really the mountain view, hike type of girl. I think I definitely catch me on a beach tanning in the water. That's my ideal vacation.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Now, as we wind up, we've been talking about some real topics. I know you spiritual. I know you want to make a difference in the community.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes.

Kenneth Wilson [:

You understand the value of taking care of oneself.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Mm.

Kenneth Wilson [:

But you understand the separation between that and greed and selfishness.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes.

Kenneth Wilson [:

But I'm gonna take you to a place where to find out what your answer is. Does Kenny Hamilton like fashion at all?

Kennedy Hampton [:

I do like fashion.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Do you like glam?

Kennedy Hampton [:

I do like glam. I love fashion. I love glam. And I think that it's all a part of your character building, finding out who you are, finding out what you like, what you're comfortable in, what you're not comfortable in. And I think, you know, clothing itself is, like, a really big thing now, and it's all about how you wear it, how you tell your own story. Oh. Something I learned, actually, about fashion. We went to a CMT event with Commissioner Crawley.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Well, I went to an event with cmc, with Commissioner Crawley.

Kenneth Wilson [:

The Columbus Metropolitan Club lunch series.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes. And it had Yogi on the panel with Columbus Fashion Alliance. And I learned so much just how fashion is really part of the economy, whether we want to believe it or not. You know, you can tell your own story with fashion, you're rewriting your story. It's like you're a canvas, and you can kind of put that on, however you can do that. And so. But it's deeper than clothing, and that's what I learned. Like, fashion is deeper than clothing, is deeper than, you know, pieces in a store.

Kennedy Hampton [:

You can really. You can do it up.

Kenneth Wilson [:

It's personality.

Kennedy Hampton [:

It is personality.

Kenneth Wilson [:

It's individual flavor. None of us are the same flavor.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Right.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So you are able to express yourself through clothes.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes.

Kenneth Wilson [:

And a lot of times, people that are really fashion forward don't even necessarily where the major Brands. They have an appreciation for a few pieces from a few folks, but they go out and they pick their own stuff and they create the trends, Right?

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah. They make it their own. That's what it's about.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Like that T shirt you got on.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes, like the T shirt.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Fresh. Like it has Franklin county abbreviated. It's from the gallery. That is.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I don't think they picked up on the drip.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Powered by.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Right. Powered by the gallery.

Kenneth Wilson [:

It's powered. You know, Franklin County Board of Commissioners are sponsors of promotion of the fashion industry.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes.

Kenneth Wilson [:

And we are, to your point, pro drip.

Kennedy Hampton [:

We are definitely pro drip. I mean, we're pro drip. Yes. They say, you know, lead by example and things. And so I think that the county and the Board of Commissioners and Administrator Wilson here leads by prime example when it comes to pro drip. What do you think? You think.

Kenneth Wilson [:

You think I try for my age, give them a category? Yeah, I try to represent for my age.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I think you put it on.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I try to, you know, stay in tune with the way I should look.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Right.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Because representation matters.

Kennedy Hampton [:

It does.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Every kind of way.

Kennedy Hampton [:

It does. Yeah. That's good. That's why we gotta put them on. They wasn't hip. They're not hip.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Across the board. Yeah, across the board. So we are wrapping up. I've enjoyed talking to you.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Kennedy. This has been a great conversation. And I hope that our listeners enjoy this conversation.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I do, too.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I think we asked and you provided answers to all the right questions.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Thank you.

Kenneth Wilson [:

You know. Cause these things do have to cut off in time. Otherwise we could have gone other places, covered other territories.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Right.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I didn't even get into talking about sport. We didn't talk about sports. We didn't talk about art.

Kennedy Hampton [:

I feel like when it comes to sports, you gotta bring kj, My brother. He's, like, really invested in the whole sports era. Trading cards. KJ is. He could be a sports analyst right now.

Kenneth Wilson [:

He know it.

Kennedy Hampton [:

He knows everything. Yeah. I'm the wrong person, so you would have to.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Yeah, you can just bring him. Bring him on set if we do another, right.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah, we should for sure.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Bring kj. KJ Knows.

Kennedy Hampton [:

KJ Shout out to kj.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I bet he got a shoe collection, too.

Kennedy Hampton [:

He does.

Kenneth Wilson [:

You had to have a shoe collection when you follow sports like that.

Kennedy Hampton [:

He does. I help him out in that area, though. I'm a sneaker head. A really big sneaker head.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I mean, I see them. What you got on them throwback socks? I remember.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yeah. Yeah.

Kenneth Wilson [:

I'm old enough that I remember when them socks came out. But them fresh right there.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Thank you.

Kenneth Wilson [:

Yeah, they icy.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Thank you.

Kenneth Wilson [:

They dripping ice. They just like frozen your feet frozen. Those are so cold.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Rock solid. Yeah.

Kenneth Wilson [:

All right. We have wrapped up. Thank you so much for your.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Thank you for having me.

Kenneth Wilson [:

And then on your last day kicking it on this podcast.

Kennedy Hampton [:

Yes. Thank you for having me.

Kenneth Wilson [:

So as we conclude, I leave with these same parting words. Do you? Because nobody else has time to.
