Shownotes

If your mind never fully switches off, this conversation meets you exactly there. Host Nazish sits down with energy coach and healer Jihane Laraichi to explore why stillness feels so hard to reach in a world built for constant motion.

Together they unpack how the body eventually forces us into rest, why productivity culture confuses busyness with worth, and how simple stillness practices, breathwork, and inner energy work can restore the calm we've been chasing all along.

About the Guest:

Jihane Laraichi is an energy coach and healer whose work centers on stillness, breathwork, and helping people reconnect with inner calm, emotional balance, and a sense of peace within their own lives.

Key Takeaways:

  • Stillness isn't laziness, it's often where clarity and real solutions are born, many of history's biggest ideas came from quiet moments, not constant doing.
  • Physical illness or exhaustion is sometimes the body's last resort for forcing overdue rest, learning to notice earlier signals can help you avoid burnout.
  • Childhood beliefs about productivity often turn into adult guilt about resting, naming that pattern is the first step to unlearning it.
  • Simple breathwork or a quiet walk can help clear absorbed stress and restore inner balance, no special training required.
  • Writing down insight right after a stillness practice captures it before the noise of the day crowds it back out.

Transcripts

00:00:07 Nazish: We have built a world that never stops moving. And then we wonder why we cannot rest. The notifications, the to do list that sends this. We are always slightly behind. And it does not tire the mind. It keeps the body in a low hum of stress that never fully switches off. And so stillness has started to feel like something we have to earn or schedule or escape to. But what if the stillness is not a luxury or a destination? What if it is a place inside us that is always there, underneath the noise waiting? The deepest peace may not come from slowing this world down. It may come with learning how to find the quiet within.

00:00:53 Nazish: Welcome to inner peace, better health. I am Nazish and this is the show where we explore how our inner state shapes our physical health and how cultivating it is not just having nice to have. It is essential for our well-being. Today we are talking about finding stillness in a world that never slows down via constant busyness, cost us more than we realize, and how to access a sense of inner peace that does not depend on our circumstances. Finally calming down. My guest carries a ground wisdom about this, and I am glad to have her here with me. My guest today is Jihan, whose work is rooted in well-being, inner peace, and helping people reconnect with calm in their lives. Jihan, it is so, uh, glad to have you here, and I'm so happy to have you. Welcome.

00:01:48 Jihane Laraichi: I'm really happy to be with you and really happy not to be sharing about this topic that is, you know, just like involved in all of us in this crazy world.

00:01:59 Nazish: Wonderful. Uh, before we go ahead, listeners,

00:02:40 Nazish: So I want to ask you about your own story. So tell me. uh, when you when did you realize you had lost your connection to peace? And when busyness and the noise had pulled you so far from yourself that you knew something had to change?

00:03:02 Jihane Laraichi: Well, um, what happens in life is that there are moments where things become so crazy that you begin understanding that maybe you need to change from the inside so that you can keep up with the craziness of life. And I was so stuck with too much action, action, action, doing, doing, doing that. People around me were telling me, you know, you need to be taking things down and slowing things down. And of course, what's better than, you know, being sick and being put into stillness than, um, that it brings you, you know, all of those inner thoughts of, yeah, I need to shift this. So when life pushes you to be sick and to be in bed, then it connects you mandatory with the stillness that you need to be in. When you have so many things to do that you fall and then you are mandatory, like staying in bed because your leg is broken. Then you can't move on. You can't continue with all this crazy movement that you were having. So life pushed me towards entering into stillness and being in stillness in order to be moving. And then I understood that I was into my masculine side of life, my masculine energy of moving, moving, moving. And sometimes what we don't realize is that stillness is the one that allows us to find solutions to our problems. Stillness is the one that allows us to connect to our creativity. It's because there was this person that was staying under the tree and had seen the apple falling from the sky that he understood, you know, the meaning of life and gave us many laws of the universe, like the growth of gravity, and did lots of creations just through stillness. It's because stillness is there that we have many of the inventions of this work, of this world, and many of the inventions of this world were created just out of the silence of the inner introspection. So most of the time we think that just by doing, we are going to be moving forward. But sometimes the solution comes really from the meditation and the stillness of mind.

00:05:55 Nazish: Absolutely. Thank you so much for sharing that beautiful journey with us. And, you know, to be honest, in a way, you describe losing your connection to peace before finding it, because that is so often how this wisdom is earned through our own deception rather than the theory.

00:06:16 Jihane Laraichi: Unfortunately, we need to lose something in order to feel that it is important to our life. And what happens most of the time is that when we are too much into the outer world and going out, etc., we are too much into doing that. We end up having too many thoughts and too many emotions. We identify with them. We can't recharge our energy because our energy is too much directed towards the outside. We begin sometimes losing energy because there is an inter and inter exchange of energy between us and other people, that sometimes there are some energy vampires that do steal the energy from us, and we kind of sometimes feel empty. And sometimes we identify so much with conflicts, with emotions that we are allowing our body to be sick. And then this pushes us into being in stillness because it just the disease that sometimes reminds us of the stillness that is inside of the other solutions. Sometimes we want so much to fit in into the outer world that we forget who we are, who we are. And sometimes it's just going from losing everything that we had going into a fall, sometimes going into our inner darkness that is connecting us to our stillness and reconnecting us to the abundance of life. And we tend to forget it because it's just through our mistakes that we learn.

00:08:03 Nazish: That is, that is beautiful. And, you know, it's, it's actually something that is expressing a lot about what, what letting go can actually bring up to.

00:08:20 Jihane Laraichi: There is, um, a lady that is called Melody Beattie and that was an amazing book, uh, that is called the three three hundred and sixty five days of, uh, Letting Go. And in this book, you know, she just shares, you know, three three hundred and sixty five, you know, just like daily, um, sentences and experiences of life, including stillness. And when, for instance, I feel that I am stuck in an issue or I can't allow myself to go into stillness, sometimes I just open that book just at whatever page, and it gives me exactly the exact underlayer situation that is happening beneath whatever I am experiencing. Maybe because I don't allow myself to say no, or because maybe I am trying to fit so much into the outside that I don't identify anymore with my own values, and it allows me to come back to the root cause of it and to be in stillness, to analyze whatever is happening, and to allow the inner guidance to be given me the resources that I need to recharge my own energy and to give us the solutions and And I think that comes from stillness is the right solution. And sometimes you don't want to see things. But when we go into stillness, we identify with ourselves and not anymore with others. And we allow ourselves to go the right pathway instead of just being the followers or just the crazy people. Just going into the crazy life of doing, doing, doing and being always in a hurry.

00:10:12 Nazish: I, yeah, yes, I, I agree with you. And, you know, perhaps one of the greatest challenges of modern life is learning how to stay engaged with the world without losing the touch with ourselves in the process.

00:10:27 Speaker 3: I think that the people that are most successful.

00:10:30 Jihane Laraichi: Are showing us that when you see, for instance, you know, the best anchors in American TV, um, what they do is that they do have a meditation, um, routine in the morning. They do have their own morning routine where they do stillness, where they go into walking and when they do journaling because they allow themselves to go and use their stillness as an advantage, as an asset for their own business, for their own well-being, which the majority of people of us regular people don't do. They show us the way and they show us that it is working. But most of the time we have so many limiting beliefs regarding if I don't do, then I am not going to be successful. If I am not in action, then nothing is going to come to me because our parents taught us that way, because we have ingrained limiting beliefs regarding that And we don't our challenge that challenge those inherent limiting beliefs that come from our parents and we don't ever allow ourselves to do things differently. And sometimes by just analyzing what we are, analyzing what we do good and we don't do good is allowing us to go back to the most important thing that is stillness. It's in the void that the life has been created, even if anything here seems to be made of matter. But we know now in physics, law of physics, that all matter is made of void. It's made of emptiness. The whole universe is made on lots of emptiness, because it's all of this emptiness that allows things to be added up. So very important to know that It's not that each person can't allow herself to be in emptiness, it's that it's her limiting beliefs of because I am going to be doing, I am going to be successful, and I'm going to be having the things that I want in life, but reminding ourselves that maybe we could challenge this belief and go into another belief that is, it's in stillness that comes the result of success and being happy in life.

00:13:13 Nazish: Absolutely. You know, this says a lot about so many things that we are, you know, not really aware about. And it sounds like you are challenging the assumptions that productivity and constant activity are the same thing. Like many people think of stillness as absence of progress. But what you are describing, it is something that is that actually supports progress.

00:13:41 Jihane Laraichi: What's happened is that when we were little in class or in our home, um, stillness was considered. Laziness was considered just not being focused, not being interested by whatever was said. So for instance, if a kid was just saying without doing anything and not doing his homework or not playing or not like being involved in any activity, whatever it was, he was called lazy by his parents. He was called like, you won't do anything in your life if you stay just like this. Oh, go and read a book. Go and do this activity. Go and study this. Maybe it's going to be useful in your life And as it wasn't valued, then the person kind of repeats it all along her life because she was criticized whenever she was in stillness. The second thing is that in class, whenever there was a kid that was just like in his, like in his dreams, the teacher would call the parents on him and tell him, you know, he is not like focused with us. He is, you know, in his own word. But it's in reality, this stillness that allowed him sometimes to collect his own thoughts and to be maybe memorising better the lessons. So that little kid that ingested all of these negative thoughts and negative beliefs regarding stillness is reproducing only that when he grows up and giving it to his own kids. So when we shift the way that we perceive life and we perceive stillness, and we allow ourselves to be experiencing that, then we get to be doing things differently and showing them differently to our kids. But it takes a lot of work on challenging our own assumptions and our own, um, thinking about negative, thinking about stillness.

00:16:05 Nazish: I agree with you there because, you know, it sounds like you questioned whether we have sometimes we have confused stillness with laziness. And many of us grew up receiving the message that if we are not visibly productive, we are wasting our time.

00:16:27 Jihane Laraichi: Unfortunately, um, we are all parts in the middle class and, you know, lower class, uh, have been used. Have been, you know, taught those things. And there is this amazing book, uh, that is called. Um, rich dad, rich father and, uh, poor that, um, and that explains that there are different ways of perceiving, uh, life. There is the rich way and there is the person that is poor or middle class that has this perception and allowing ourselves to do things that rich people do their own routines, their own way of doing, just opening our eyes to another different other model and just doing that just for, I don't know, for a day, for two days. And we programming ourselves into using those methodologies because most of the time we have. What we have is that we have a masculine energy and we have a feminine energy. Whatever we are male or we are female, we have those both energies that are interaction between them. And what rich people understood is that the feminine side is very important. So they tend, even if they are men, not to reject it. They tend to include it. And that includes the stillness. That includes meditation. That includes taking the time just to go into a meditation and stillness. And after you are done allowing yourself to write your ideas, to write the different thoughts that come to you. And many of the business creations have been done that way by using the feminine side of us that we all reject. Because for us to be like masculine and to be like worthy, you need to be producing and doing. It comes with relationship with my worth. I can't be doing nothing. But sometimes just by being stillness, it allows you to analyze your thoughts, to analyze your thinking, your goal, your own vision, your identity, your mistakes. Just by allowing this to come into stillness and to be into acceptance. But as we have been here in this planet, honoring all our ancestors that were all the time doing and doing and doing, we don't allow ourselves out of loyalty to go into accepting the feminine side of us, of being observing. Like you just look, you just stay in stillness and instead of reacting in a conflict, I allow myself to be in inner stillness. I allow myself just to feel my own emotions. It's in stillness that I can allow myself to feel who I am, why I am reacting that way, and the stillness of emotions. And most of us, we are in fight, flight and freeze and we kind of reject our own emotions. But in a world that is going crazy, we are all overreacting to each other's pain, each other's emotions, each other's behaviors, thoughts, and words. But by allowing ourselves to be in stillness, we allow ourselves to be taken responsibility of our inner thoughts, our inner responsibility, and doing things maybe differently, thinking things differently. And it all comes from beginning with being in stillness, because this is what is showing us the path in our life.

00:20:29 Nazish: Absolutely. You know, I couldn't agree more with you. It sounds so true. And, you know, I think, uh, one of the one of the challenges of, uh, everything is that we are not aware of how to differentiate between stillness and the progress that we can make while being still as well.

00:20:51 Jihane Laraichi: Yeah. I think that, um, there are many, you know, just like, uh, TV shows that, um, explain this, uh, better than I do. And there are so many, sometimes there are some TV shows that they show us, you know, the different inventions that were created and they kind of tell you, you know, like about all the, how the stillness allowed this invention to be, um, observed to be thought of because it was a natural movement of, you know, life, and it's because someone took the time to see, you know, how the how the birds do fly, that we have created planes because someone took himself just to be in stillness and just because he has voided his mind. Then things happened and he got to do this connection between the causality of, oh, this is like this. Maybe I'm going to create something similar regarding that too, is that sometimes we have conflicts with others. Their own thoughts are entwined energetically into ours. We confuse ourselves into other people's emotions and thoughts, and sometimes we think that our emotions are the good ones, the positive ones that we are right in doing this thing differently. And sometimes we think that our own mistakes are right. But sometimes when we go to a stillness and we take the time just to be in a void, and we think about a situation where something happened, we allowed ourselves to be feeling that, yes, maybe I could do things differently. Because sometimes we have absorbed so much negativity from the outside. And when we allow ourselves to be in stillness, we allow our energy guides to be cleansing us from negativity. We allow the breathing. Now, there are many energy techniques of breathing that allow us to be clearing the negativity and the negative thoughts that we have, the negative emotions that we have. And sometimes as we have absorbed the negativity of others. Being in stillness allows us to be more grounded. We have chakras which are energy systems. When these chakras are not balanced, they are contributing in us being crazier and not slowing down. But by being in stillness and by breathing calmly and breathing out calmly all the negative emotions and thoughts that we have. We allow our energy system based with chakras to be recharged correctly of the negative energy to be cleansed from them. And that way we can be more collected in front of difficult situations and be able to be facing them without overreacting, without outer violence, without being rude to others and to us. And maybe to think that we can act differently in the same situation.

00:24:28 Nazish: Art is absolutely important. And, you know, this is interesting because you're suggesting that the insight doesn't come from the from working harder. It can also come from creating a space to think differently.

00:24:45 Jihane Laraichi: When we are experiencing situations, most of the time we are repeating patterns of our parents. We are repeating the same ways that the parents treated us, and we are treating others the same way by rejecting our parents their own ways, we are repeating those same behaviors that we rejected in them. If we don't allow ourselves to be going into stillness, we won't be able to observe that, to be noticing it in us. So we are reproducing and at the same time rejecting, and it is passing it along to the next generations by allowing ourselves to go into stillness when we are having a difficult situation, difficult conflict, a repetitive pattern, whatever. Just by allowing ourselves to be in stillness, we allow ourselves maybe the opportunity to have some images pop up, maybe an image of an old memory of when we were little kids. That is going to be the clue to resolving the same situation that we have tried forcibly to be, with many thoughts trying to resolve. By allowing ourselves to go and walk in stillness. Maybe you're now in the forest. Maybe, you know, in the beach we allow ourselves to go and walk on positive earth networks that are going to be recharging us in energy and negative energy networks of earth that are going to be clearing our negative energy. And by being in stillness, all of this process of having us recharge just to walk in and by being in stillness is allowing us at the end of our walking tour, maybe to have a positive idea, maybe to have a guidance from our inner spirit, of our guides, of our ancestors, of doing things differently this time. But nothing can come inside if my head is crowded, if my heart is filled with negativity, it's too much overcrowded and it can't come in. So I need to be letting out through stillness, all the negativity or whatever is a limiting belief or a mistaken belief in order for the positive to come inside. Stillness needs to be there. But most of us are resistant to that because there is the self-sabotage of I need to be just like experiencing the same things as my ancestors. And this is where clearing those unconscious loyalties towards not wanting unconsciously to be experiencing positive things and staying always in the bad habits needs to be worked on. And this comes to stillness. It works very good to be cleansed in that.

00:28:01 Nazish: Absolutely. I agree with you. And you know, I know there are going to be a lot of listeners after this conversation wanting to connect with you, learn more about you. So how can they do so? Where can my listeners find you and your work?

00:28:15 Jihane Laraichi: Yeah. So they can find me in my website and book sessions with me in my website, with my name, that three dot three w dot yelp dot com. And, uh, I do, uh, do sessions in Luminar adopt care. And, uh, they can connect with me with my life. So I do free lives in insight timer app, uh, where I do have many courses and many, uh, tracks that they can listen to.

00:28:46 Nazish: Wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing that with us. I will make sure to include those details into the show notes. And thank you for being here. This is exactly the kind of conversation in a piece. BetterHelp is built for gentle grounding and something reminding us that calm is not something we have to chase. It is something we can return to. And it is so beautiful that you have showed us that stillness is not a luxury reserved for empty your life, but a please inside us that is always there, waiting beneath all that noise. And I think to whosoever is listening right now, maybe late tonight, frazzled and longing for a quiet you cannot seem to find. I will leave you with this. The peace you are searching for is not on the other side of your to do list. It is here and now. One breath away beneath all the doing. You don't have to slow down. Slow the whole world down to find it. You only have to pause even for a moment and let yourself arrive at the stillness has been waiting for you all along. Thank you so much again for being here with us.
