In this short, uplifting episode of Whole Again, Michael O’Brien guides you through a laughter meditation, a microdose of mindfulness inspired by ancient Stoic, Buddhist, and yogic practices.

Laughter can do more than lighten your mood. It improves cardiovascular health, boosts emotional resilience, and helps you reconnect with your body after physical injury or trauma. This guided practice takes just a couple of minutes and can be done anywhere—sitting at your desk, on a walk, or during a midday reset.

Whether you’re navigating recovery, feeling stressed, or simply need a moment of joy, this microdose meditation is designed to help you:

  • Release tension and shift your energy
  • Strengthen your mind-body connection
  • Spark endorphins and reduce stress hormones
  • Feel more grounded, present, and whole again

Take a deep breath, settle in, and laugh from your belly. You may just get one of the best ab workouts of your life—while nourishing your mental and emotional wellbeing.

What You’ll Experience:

  • A short, guided laughter meditation rooted in ancient traditions
  • How intentional laughter can support your cardiovascular and emotional health
  • A joyful reset you can return to whenever you need it

Transcripts

Hey there, it's Michael. Welcome to Whole again. A show about helping survivors a physical injury and trauma, reclaim their strength and resilience through the wisdom of ksu.

Today I have a microdose meditation for you that's built on an ancient practice. It's all about laughter. We'll take a couple minutes and simply laugh deep down and from the belly. So when you're ready, you can settle into a comfortable posture. And if you like, you can close your eyes or you can leave them open and watch the world go by as you laugh.

And we'll begin with a deep breath breathing up fully through your nose.

And now release the breath and perhaps feeling a sense of groundedness as you do.

And with your next breath in, we'll begin to laugh.

I don't know about you, but I'm crying and I think I just had one of the best AB workouts ever. A laughter meditation is grounded in ancient traditions, going all the way back to stoicism and practices within Buddhism and. Yoga from a laughter and a joy perspective, and it can have tremendous benefits on our overall health and in particular our cardiovascular and our mental and emotional wellbeing.

There are some days where we just need to laugh and I hope you come back to this practice when that moment occurs for you. If you like, you can take a few deep inhales and relaxing exhales. As you think about transitioning into the next part of your day, you can even give the body a little stretch. And as always, thank you for practicing with me and today.

Thanks for sharing a. And putting a beautiful ripple into the world.

And if you would like to discover additional micro doses. Of mindfulness and wisdom. You can download my pause, breathe, reflect app, and join us here every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It's seven 11 Eastern. Again, thanks for being here. I appreciate you.
