In this final episode on Profile, Kelsey steps back to contextualize what Profile actually is and how it’s meant to be used within the Living Your Design experiment. Rather than treating Profile as an identity label or personality type, this episode re-frames Profile as a role you play within the larger mechanical story of your design. It's a thematic costume your consciousness wears as it moves through life rather than something you “try to be." Profile naturally reveals itself over time as you decondition and align with your mechanics.
What's Discussed in this Episode:
If you would like full access to the course, including the videos and slides, make sure to join the Patreon, where you will find the full LYD course and exclusive Human Design and Astrology content.
In other words, we don't make our profile or cross happen, they happen via your Auric alignment. So it's really easy to get this information and more and more advanced information about human design.
But in this case specifically Profile and go oh well, I better be networking. I better be looking for opportunities. I'm a fourth line. Or oh, I better be coming in with my hot takes. I'm a fifth line.
It's very easy for the mind to grasp this stuff and through the strategies of the not self and your undefined centers try to convince you that there's something you should be doing or something that you can do. But the way that we operate with Profile is not strategic in any way.
It's just the thing that as we align to our strategy and authority, we start to see that like in my case, I am helpless to playing the role of the heretic hermit. I am the heretic hermit whether I try or not. And in fact when I don't try.
Speaker A:Welcome to the Living Your Design Podcast. I'm your experimentor, Kelsey Rose Tortorice.
This podcast is an audio only release of the full length in depth Human Design Foundations course I've been teaching over the last several years.
It is a no bullshit, comprehensive, embodied introduction to the human design system that will challenge your ego mind and support you in your process of reuniting with the unique wisdom of your body.
In episode one, I speak a bit about the process that led me to releasing this course for free in podcast form, and I offer a few notes that might be useful to contextualize and clarify what you'll hear in this episode and beyond. I recommend giving that short intro episode a listen if you haven't yet.
The LYD Podcast is part of a larger living body of work, a growing archive of my teachings about consciousness through the languages of astrology and human design, hosted in an online community space where I stay in orbit with my students, mentees, alumni, peers and collaborators.

Thank you for tuning in to my transmission of Living Your Design. It's a deeply personal and somewhat vulnerable share that. I feel honored, humbled and excited to release into the world. I hope that it helps you remember and come home to yourself.
Speaker A:Contextualizing Profile. So in this last lecture of the Profile series, we're just going to look at Profile in context.
So, two kind of distinct ways of doing this. One, we're going to dip our toes into some previews of some even more advanced profile information.
So keeping in mind that profile already is outside of the scope of the standard LYD curriculum.
And now I'm going even more outside the scope by bringing in very brief surface level introductions to some concepts that you will see intertwined with profile. I am going to be very disciplined about not digging in and trying to really explain and tease out these concepts.
I just want to present them again to kind of show you connections between perhaps some things you've already encountered or things you will encounter, so that you have at least the starting point to see how some of the other layers of human design are connected to what we've studied in this unit.
And then we'll kind of pare it down and come back to the basics, come back to what really matters in lyd, which is attuning to our form on a centers and aura type level.
And we'll talk about how can we take this information that we know about our profile and absorb it through the process of experimenting with our strategy and authority. Because how we orient to profile and human design is very different from how we orient to strategy and authority and form and centers mechanics.
And so we'll just kind of look at that a bit and play with how to think about one juxtaposed against the other, how we can play with both and the distinctions between these two sects of information. But we'll start first with just very loose previews of more advanced profile content.
We've talked about the evolution of the singular profile lines through this evolutionary sequence of one through six. But there's also, we can stretch it out to look at the 12 profiles and the way that they show up linearly as combinations. So it starts with the 1, 3.
This is the most foundational profile. And then for a little bit of time between when a 1, 3 process person is born and a 2, 4 person is born, there's a 1, 4 profile.
And this is where the personality stays the same, but the Design changes to a 4 for a very brief amount of time before then the 4, the 4 stays and the 2 shifts into the second line. The design shifts into the second line. Talk a little bit more about that in a couple slides.
But what I want to show you here is that there's like this, not only the evolution of these parts of the six part process, but but when we combine them in profile, there's this evolution of the embodied quantum orientation. That holds the binary consciousness of the personality and the design and the foundational of this quantum binary consciousness being, is the 1, 3.
And then the ultimate pinnacle evolution, is the 6, 3.
And within this, these 12 profiles laid out this way, we can see what we call these three different geometries or these three angles, which are the right angle profiles, the juxtaposition profile, the singular juxtaposition profile, and the left angle profiles.
Like I said, I'm going to try to be pretty disciplined about not getting too into the why for these things, because these are much more advanced and just not necessary to play with at this point. But I'm just going to present the basic meaning behind these three geometries.
So if you have a one, two or three in your personality profile or are a four, six, then you have what's called a right angle profile. And perhaps you've seen this already because you've looked up your incarnation cross, and you've seen that you have a right angle incarnation cross.
So the main connection I want to help you see here is simply that the reason you have a right angle carnation cross incarnation cross is because you are one of the 64% of the population that has one of these profiles. 1, 3, 1, 4, 2 4, 2, 5, 3 5, 3, 6 and 4, 6. Right angle profiles are said to have personal karma. This means your purpose is fulfilled.
Right angle cross is what RAX stands for. And this is about the way you move through life. And we're orienting here to the top number.
Everyone but the 46 in the right angle has a personal trigram, a lower trigram profile on the top number.
I think about this as like this is what, when we incarnate to have an experience, a particular vantage point and experience as this fragmentation of consciousness, this unique version out of an infinite version of combinations of how consciousness can show up in orientation. Your design is showing us this, the orientation that your soul picked to overly simplify.
And so the witness is the one who's having this experience, the passenger. And so where you we look at the top number primarily to understand which of these ways of moving through life applies to us.
For the right angle cross, in most cases we have a upper trigram number, but then we also have the 46 who has a right angle cross. This is purpose fulfilled through your own personal process. What you experience in relationship is about your own personal karma.
You're here to make karma. Everything you experience is about your experience. This is about you, if you have a juxtaposition cross. So this is very Rare.
This is less than 3% of the population. And it's only applied to Those with the 4:1 profile. You are a bridge.
Your karma is about being a bridge from the personal, the right angle profiles and crosses to the transpersonal, the left angle profiles and crosses. For people with juxtaposition profile, four ones where you experience in relationship is not really meant to affect you karmically.
You have your own fixed trajectory. People use the metaphor of like a train for a 4:1, they're on a set path and they're going in a set direction.
And unlike the right angle, everything that the right angle encounters in their life is for the purposes of transmuting their own karma, personal karma. For the 4:1, that's not really the case. For the juxtaposition cross.
You are here to be a bridge from personal to the potential of transpersonal karma. What you experience in relationship is not necessarily meant to come in and transmute your karma.
You already have a fixed trajectory karmically that you are on. Your movement through space and time.
Your geometry is not designed to be altered the way that for a right angle cross, that movement can be altered through the transmutation of your personal karma through what you take in and experience in the Maya, in the mundane world, in relationship to the other and your life.
And I don't want to get too into the why behind this, but we can look at like for the four and the one this is about found the foundation of both the personal and the transpersonal.
It's the only profile that is foundational, like very fixed in the orientation towards stability in both the personal realm and the transpersonal realm. And so it's this like juxtaposition.
It's the juxtaposition of being fixed and stable in the personal on top of the fixed and stable in the transpersonal realm. So you bridge together personal destiny and transpersonal karma by following your very specific path in life.
I imagine that to four ones, it doesn't even make sense to think about this because this is just who you are and how you operate. And you have this kind of fixed trajectory.
But if we talk about kind of the binary of personal karma for right angle crosses and transpersonal karma for left angle crosses for four ones for juxtaposition crosses, I think it's more just about understanding that you don't fit into that binary. You operate as a person, a person who's like personally destined to be on your own path, which is already fixed.
It's not something that gets transmuted through your Personal karma process like a right angle, but it will impact the people in your life. Okay, left angle crosses. Left angle profiles, five ones, five twos and six twos.
We are here to transmute karma of the collective and relational karma.
And so as left angle crosses move through the world, not only do we have the potential to shift the karma of others transpersonal left angle, but we're also oriented towards doing such.
Those with the left angle profile we have a sense of because it's our conscious personality number that's way up here in the 5, 6 that's kind of removed from the floor, the foundation of the four and everything that makes up the four which the one, two and three. And so left angles, not only are we transmuting transpersonal karma, but we're orienting to that.
We're identifying with this process of transmuting transpersonal karma. Whereas the four, one is absolutely influencing the other. But the other, it can't get in there and alter.
It's not designed to alter the four ones fixed path, but I think initially a takeaway is just that you have this fixed trajectory that the other that 97, more than 90% of the population doesn't have. And if you're a right angle cross, you're much more.
You're designed to be much more oriented to your own personal process moving through the karmic field. And if you're a left angle cross, you are designed to be much more oriented towards.
How does my life influence the karmic field in the transpersonal realm? It doesn't. It can feel with a left angle cross, it can feel like my life's not actually for me.
I'm here playing the role of the role model, or I'm playing the role of the karmic mirror through being the heretic. And it's not really about me.
It's my responsibility to tend to the karmic field for the collective as a whole or the karmic field that karmic history between me and this person and this person and this person versus right angle profiles.
You're, you're really here on a personality passenger consciousness level to tend to your version as you witness as you move through the karmic field and the juxtaposition cross your something else entirely or a secret third thing. We're orienting to this part of a six part process from introspection to transition or investigation to role modelship.
What we're doing is orienting to whatever our character role is of one through six, either as a representative of your gate, your Channel or your circuit. So this comes from this right angle, left angle thing. So I just wanted to present this.
It might be useful for a small percentage of you who have already felt with some of these themes or maybe down the line deeper into your experiment. For those of you who are fresher to design, it'll be fruitful for you to. When you re listen to this, some stuff will land.
But that idea of like as a fourth line, you are an opportunist, you're a networker within the context of your gate. So our right angle crosses are one fours and one threes are right angle cross. Two fives and two fours are right angle cross, personal destiny.
Three sixes and three fives are right angle cross, personal destiny, destiny and four sixes are right angle cross, personal destiny.
So everyone who has a right angle cross, you are here doing your introspection and adaptation, your investigator martyring or your adaptation and transition, your martyr role modeling within the context of the theme of your gate, your personality sun gates. Because this is based more on the personality number.
For those of you with juxtaposition cross, so four ones as well as our fifth line, left angle crosses. So five ones and five twos, you are doing your role playing your profile role within the theme of the whole channel.
So right angle cross is more focused, right, more singular, singularly focused on the specific gate theme.
But for juxtaposition crosses as well as five ones and five twos, half of our left angle crosses, you are externalizing or universalizing based on the theme of the whole channel.
So whether or not you have that whole channel defined, it's like a bit of a wider scope that you're doing your externalization and your universalization in regard to.
So you can look at the meaning and the theme and the frequency of your entire channel of your personality sun, in order to get a feel for in my case, what am I a heretic hermit about? It's going to be about the channel of my personality, sun, and then the sun Earth.
I guess it would be sun Earth in in all the cases here for gate, channel and circuit. And then for our left angle crosses who have transpersonal karma for six line personalities specifically.
g to. So for example, channel:So if you're a 62 or a 6 3, you're not only here to role model if your sun is in 41 or 30, you're not only here to role model the themes of those gates or the theme of that full channel, but you're here to role model the theme of the entire sensing circuit.
So again, way beyond the scope of Lyd, but it's very connected to this idea of the right angle and left angle crosses, which are aspects of when you get deeper and deeper into it more, some more of the nuance behind these 12 different profile setups. Now coming back to this idea of the evolution of our 12 profiles, we start at the 1:3 and then it evolves over time into the 6:3 profile.
And so I just want to talk about the math of this a little bit here. And we know that our top number comes from our actual birth moment, which is the same as our natal chart, right?
So your sun position in your astrological natal chart is the sun position of a line in a gate. That is your personality profile, the top number.
So the one of the one three, the other number in your profile comes from your design, which is a calculation from exactly 88 degrees of the sun before you were born.
So it's the astrological configuration of all the planets and the nodes, a moment when you were in utero, when the sun was exactly 88 degrees before you were born.
And so there's like a set arc, a set distance, and that distance is 88 degrees exactly of the zodiac, that the personality line will always be in front of the design line.
And as it's doing this in real time, it's kind of, I mean, this isn't really what's happening, but from a calculation perspective, it's kind of dragging the design calculation exactly 88 degrees behind it.
And because it's an 88 degree and not 90 degree difference between the personality and design sun, and then all placements between the personality and design chart, there's these short transitional periods in which the profile line of the design sun is different when the personality sun line stays the same. So, for example, we're moving through this six day process of the profile line moving from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 5 to 6.
And before the 1 gets to the 2, the design sun, 88 degrees behind, gets ahead to 4 for a brief amount of time. And then the 2 catches up. And now we're in the next foundational profile where there's a dissonance, there's not a harmonic, right?
But for brief little windows right before the top line is about right.
Before the real time sun is about to move from line one to line two, there's these little transitional moments where the design sun, the calculation for 88 days before, gets into the next line, and then really shortly after that happens, the actual real time sun will move ahead as well. This is so complicated. It's not complicated. It's just difficult to articulate clearly.
So let me lean on my bullet points here and again remind you that there are some pieces in here that may be useful to just sort of let marinate, and they might answer some questions you already have noticed yourself having. But none of this is crucial to the basic, the basics of living your design.
So practice trusting your body right now and discerning what of this actually matters to you. If you have an open head in Ajna, like most of this probably doesn't actually matter to you right now. So just discern for yourself.
Take all of this lightly. So let's try to break this down a little bit more here. The sun moves approximately 1 degree of the zodiac wheel a day, right?
The arc of each line of the profile, each line of a gate is about 56 arcminutes. So 56, 56 out of 60 of a degree. So just under one degree, an arcminute is a 60th of a degree.
So when we say the arc of each line of the profile, each line of the gate, we're talking about the distance on the zodiac between the beginning of line one of a gate to the beginning of line two of a gate. Line one of a gate, which is a 1/6 of 1/64 of the zodiac is just under a degree.
The sun takes about six days and a few hours to move through the entire gate. So getting through each of these 56 arcminutes six times, each line, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, is 56 arc minutes just underneath the degree.
So when you add it all up, the sun moves through the whole gate, all six lines of a gate, in about six days, which is about five and a half degrees of the Zodiac. Very close to five and a half degrees of the zodiac. Five degrees, 27 arc minutes and 30.
I don't even know what these are called, but they're a 60th of an arc minute. Arc seconds. Actually, yeah. Arc seconds are what they're called the harmonic or transitional profile.
So these bottom profiles, which are much more rare, where you can see the harmonic, the one to the four foundational, the two to the five, the middle of the trigram, the three to the six, the completion of each trigram and then the reverse versions of those, those transitional profiles only occur in the last seven minutes.
So 0 degrees and 7 minutes and 30 arc seconds of the arc, the personality stays the same, but for a teeny bit of time, about three hours in between the shift, there will be a harmonic or transitional profile. So if today is a first line day in real time, most of the people born today will be one threes.
But at the very end, right before the the first line day turns into a second line day in real time, there will be about a three hour period where the people born will have 1:4 profiles, which is the transition from the 1:3 to the 2:4 transitional profile 1:4. If you were born on a third line day, then most likely you are a 3:5.
But at the very end of the period of time where the sun was in line 3 in real time, right before it moved into line 4, creating the 46 profile, the 6 of the design calculation shifted.
So there's a small sect of people born on a third line day who are 3 6, which is the transitional profile moving into the fourth line day, the fourth line.
So most of the time we have these foundational profiles which carry this inherent kind of dissonance between the personality and the design line roles.
But then for these brief windows, about three hours, in just under 20, just under 24 hours, we'll have a transitional profile or what are also referred to as a harmonic profile. The 1-425-364, 1-52-63.
And we can see these profile statistics here as well as the right angle and left angle and juxtaposition, it's just listed reverse of how we saw it before. So our most common profiles are going to be pretty much all the foundational ones.
And you can see the percentage of population of people who have the foundational profiles are always between 14 and 50%. 14 and 15%. The 1 3, the 2 4, the the 3 5, the 4 6, the 51 and the 6 2. Most of the people you meet will be of these profiles.
They're fairly common, 14 to 15% of the population. But for our harmonic profiles those were also referred to as transitional profiles. Those brief transitional periods.
It's usually between 2, it's always between 2 and 2 and a half percent. So the 14 2.3%, the 2.5 2.44%, the 3.6 2.22 2.43, the 52 2.14, that's the rarest and the 63 2.45.
So I don't Know, just extra information in case you're wondering why you know so many one threes which like 13 and 46 are the most common. But not so many five twos or not so many four ones, right? Really rare that juxtaposition cross very rare.
And now we're going to come back to contextualizing profiles specifically within the scope of this course, Lyd. So kind of coming back to earth, coming back to the focus of the fundamentals of human design in the living your design course.
Essentially, even with all this extra information about profile, it's still all about strategy and authority.
Aligning to your frequency is what allows for the healthy, clear and true expression of your profile role in your incarnation cross purpose to be fulfilled. This alignment occurs through our observation of and surrender to strategy and authority. In other words, we don't make our profile or cross happen.
They happen via your auric alignment. So it's really easy to get this information and more and more advanced information about human design.
But in this case specifically profile and go, oh well, I better be networking, I better be looking for opportunities. I'm a fourth line. Or oh, I better be coming in with my hot takes. I'm a fifth line, you know. Or oh, I better make sure I know what I know.
I'm a first line. I have to make sure I learn more, right?
It's very easy for the mind to grasp this stuff and through the strategies of the not self and your undefined centers try to convince you that there's something you should be doing or something that you can do or a decision that you have to make or control that you have. But the way that we operate with profile is not strategic in any way.
It's just the thing that as we align to our strategy and authority, we start to see that like in my case, I am helpless to playing the role of the heretic hermit. I am the heretic hermit. Whether I try or not.
And in fact when I don't try to be, when I just stay in my closed aura and surrender to my closed manifestor aura and I inform and I follow my emotional authority and honor and respect my emotional truth, I get to witness myself playing this character of the 52 in the cleanest, clearest way, with the most integrity, the least distorted way. If we as passengers accept what is absolute in our form, type, strategy, authority, our consciousness will express what it's here to express.
And we get to watch it and explore it rather than fight it. We're helpless to our profile, right? And our strategy and authority helps us see that and embrace it and surrender to it.
Strategy and authority is how we navigate angle, cross and profile. As a right angle, strategy and authority helps you to know what is personally relevant for you.
As a left angle strategy and an authority helps you to know which history and which transpersonal karma is correct for you to engage with in this lifetime. If you're left angle, you're not responsible for all of the karma you know. You're not here for all of the transpersonal karma.
Your strategy and authority will help keep you on your geometry, on your path to being in the right place, in the right time, with the right orientation according to your authority to deal with the transpersonal karma that you are here to deal with and engage with. As a juxtaposition, cross, strategy and authority helps to keep you on your fixed track.
Everything besides strategy and authority is there for us to accept and surrender to. Being aware of it helps us to flow with ease rather than experience the same things through suffering. So all this extra stuff, very interesting.
But strategy and authority is the only practical approach to living your design. It's really the only tool.
It's the only kind of facade of choice that gives our ego mind, gives our passenger something to appease it and orient to so that we can more adequately surrender, which is really the only choice that we have. And I have this little quote from one of my teachers, John Cole.
24 ego projector we kind of have to play the game as if we have choice, as if we have agency. Our mind and our fragile egos need that.
So just be mindful, you know, of the mind and the ego's tendency to take this profile information and think that it means that there's something that you have to do or force or choose. There's not. But you can give your mind and ego something to chew on via strategy and authority.
And as you do so, as you accept what is absolute in your form and allow the body to lead through its absolute limitation and absolute mechanics, then you get to see yourself perform this role that is your profile. You get to watch yourself embody and reach the purpose of your destination, of your incarnation, Cross. But there's no doing.
There's no making those things happen. There's simply surrendering.
