We're gonna talk today about what I'm calling hot potato your emotions.
Speaker:So especially if you were somebody who is in the personal development
Speaker:space, but also more of like the spiritual space you've got,
Speaker:modalities that you were using.
Speaker:When emotions come up, feelings come up, all of those things.
Speaker:We have tools in our tool belt, really personal development space in general.
Speaker:And when we are hot, our hot potato wing, our emotions, what we end up
Speaker:doing is it's another form of avoidance or, um, fear's not really the right
Speaker:word, but like we're still managing to avoid the thing under the disguise
Speaker:that we're doing what we need to do.
Speaker:So let's get into it.

Speaker:Welcome back to Money Simplified.
Speaker:and I'm pretty excited to talk about this today because it's something.
Speaker:That I think a lot of us are doing and we don't even realize that we're doing it.
Speaker:And it's fun because, well, it's not fun, but it is fun at the same time.
Speaker:All right.
Speaker:And I'm calling it hot potato wing, your emotions.
Speaker:Okay.
Speaker:So especially those of us who use different tools, modalities, if you are
Speaker:feeling emotion, we, we can also do this with tactical strategies though, so I
Speaker:don't wanna give just that example, but.
Speaker:This is where we are using all of the good tools as an escape mechanism
Speaker:still as opposed to like healing.
Speaker:Okay, so if you listen to the last episode, you heard me talk about shame
Speaker:and criticism and I'll link it for you.
Speaker:If you haven't checked that one out, I would listen to that one.
Speaker:But this episode we're gonna talk about the moment, like when that shows up.
Speaker:So for example, last week there was.
Speaker:Stuff going on.
Speaker:I was sitting at my desk working, and all of a sudden I was very much
Speaker:in this like, shame, guilt, like being hard on myself, being critical,
Speaker:going into fear, like, and then like beating myself up for going into fear.
Speaker:Like all of like those crazy emotions.
Speaker:Okay.
Speaker:And I could feel it coming on and it's like, well, I, I know what to do, right?
Speaker:Like.
Speaker:I can go tap, I can journal, I can go for a walk, I can go
Speaker:ground outside, like whatever.
Speaker:Like I've got the tools in my tool belt, breath work, all the things.
Speaker:And my instinct there was like, okay, let's go do this thing.
Speaker:Let's go handle this.
Speaker:Let's go take care of it.
Speaker:But that was hot potato wing, my emotion.
Speaker:So instead of sitting and actually like.
Speaker:Feeling the feelings, right?
Speaker:Acknowledging them, feeling them.
Speaker:It's like, oh my gosh, I don't want it, I don't like it.
Speaker:Like let me get rid of it.
Speaker:I don't like it.
Speaker:We're hot potato with the emotion.
Speaker:Like we catch it and it's like, oh my gosh, get rid of it.
Speaker:Like let me go do that so we can do this disguised as productivity.
Speaker:Let me go reorganize my offer suite.
Speaker:Let me go, um, work on this thing.
Speaker:Let me go attend this coaching hall and we can jump from thing to thing to thing.
Speaker:And we do the same thing with those healing modalities that we use, right?
Speaker:We are not allowing ourselves to actually feel and process that motion
Speaker:without letting it mean anything, without going into the shame, which
Speaker:again, I said I was starting to do that.
Speaker:So feel the shame, feel those things without creating
Speaker:additional meaning around it.
Speaker:Because if we just hot potato it, we deal with it.
Speaker:It goes.
Speaker:Underground, but it feels productive, right?
Speaker:Like you're doing something with it.
Speaker:You're doing the things we we're tapping, you're doing, um, what is that called?
Speaker:There there's like specific movement that you can do that is like
Speaker:helpful for somatic reassurance.
Speaker:I cannot remember the name right now.
Speaker:Is it just somatic movement?
Speaker:I know you're probably like shouting this at me right now, or laughing.
Speaker:Um, I think we'll go with somatic movement.
Speaker:Like, or you're walking, we're journaling, you're doing a new strategy, you're
Speaker:doing a meditation, you're doing a self-hypnosis, like all of those things.
Speaker:Is this like, oh my gosh, I can't feel this.
Speaker:Like, I've gotta get rid of it.
Speaker:I know.
Speaker:I've done that, especially with the EFT tapping, like that's probably my thing.
Speaker:It's like, I don't wanna feel this.
Speaker:Let me start tapping.
Speaker:Like, I don't like this.
Speaker:So it's like, instead of honoring it.
Speaker:Feeling, feeling it, recognizing it and releasing it.
Speaker:It's like, let me just get through this.
Speaker:I just gotta do it.
Speaker:I just have to get through this.
Speaker:And really like, it's a form of protection and especially our
Speaker:overachievers, um, hyper achievers, whatever we wanna call us.
Speaker:Like, Hey, there's a dopamine hit.
Speaker:Like, I'm doing the thing, this is what I need to do.
Speaker:And action feels safer, right?
Speaker:Action feels so much safer than just sitting with it.
Speaker:Like, oh my goodness.
Speaker:Ugh.
Speaker:Especially as entrepreneurs, right?
Speaker:We have all these things we have to do.
Speaker:You don't understand, Aimee, I just have to get this done.
Speaker:I have this deadline.
Speaker:All the things, but we're not.
Speaker:Clearing out all of the emotion.
Speaker:Like, you know, you've got this cup and it's like basically almost overflowing.
Speaker:You're sitting like just below the overflow line.
Speaker:So every little thing keeps setting you off and you feel like you're
Speaker:doing the process, like you feel like you're doing the tapping, the
Speaker:meditation, like all of those things.
Speaker:But it's not, you're not clearing the cup out.
Speaker:Like it's just, we got a little like, I don't know, tea shovel or something like.
Speaker:Moving just a little bit and it's not actually going anywhere 'cause
Speaker:we're not getting to the root of it.
Speaker:It's just, oh, that feels better.
Speaker:'cause we're not overflowing.
Speaker:Now
Speaker:we keep reaching for the tools, but nothing's shifting
Speaker:because your cup is still just about to overflow.
Speaker:Like your money relationship is still in that survival mode.
Speaker:You're still reacting.
Speaker:So what if.
Speaker:It's so much easier said than done.
Speaker:I'm gonna give you that caveat right now because I know this.
Speaker:Been there, done that.
Speaker:Still going through it, like I said, it was my reaction that sparked this
Speaker:conversation and then it came up the next day on a coaching call with a client.
Speaker:It's like, what if I could just sit with this for a minute?
Speaker:Just give your this.
Speaker:Give yourself the space to feel the emotion.
Speaker:Without beating yourself up, without shaming yourself for
Speaker:whatever the choice was without shaming yourself for the emotion.
Speaker:Just let yourself feel it.
Speaker:Let yourself cry.
Speaker:Let yourself do whatever it is that you need to do without trying to move it.
Speaker:Don't make yourself do it.
Speaker:Just sit, pause, name the feeling what?
Speaker:What is this?
Speaker:Let yourself feel it.
Speaker:Don't create meaning around it, and just keep.
Speaker:Going.
Speaker:This is all of the work that we do inside Money Mastery Academy and the
Speaker:Unstoppable Experience, specifically within the Unstoppable experience
Speaker:because this is the part, like all of the strategy in the world isn't gonna
Speaker:work if your cup is still about to overflow and you know, it could work.
Speaker:It's not gonna work as easily.
Speaker:You're not gonna feel unstoppable when you implement the strategy because you just
Speaker:feel like you are reacting to everything.
Speaker:There's just this nonstop thing because your cup's just this close to overflowing
Speaker:all the dang time, and we can clear the cup out, but we have to actually
Speaker:let ourselves feel those emotions.
Speaker:And it might take a little bit of time, like, how long have you
Speaker:not been feeling your emotions?
Speaker:And you know, people in my world, if you've been around, you probably know
Speaker:this, like I am an emotional person.
Speaker:I experience so much of the emotions, and I know how much it is tied
Speaker:into my purpose and my passion.
Speaker:Like it's the way that I'm designed, it's the way that God designed me, and I'm
Speaker:here to fulfill a need in that manner.
Speaker:But I had to go through the process of learning how to feel my emotions
Speaker:myself and to actually feel them.
Speaker:'cause I could be crying and not feeling my emotions.
Speaker:Two different things.
Speaker:You can show the emotion without letting yourself feel it, but you have to feel
Speaker:safe enough to let yourself feel it.
Speaker:And that's what takes the programming.
Speaker:And when we're going to our tools, which are amazing, and I still use and
Speaker:love my tools, but it's why I don't create the hard, fast routines anymore.
Speaker:Like my ru like the habit routine.
Speaker:Like I brush my teeth, I make my bed.
Speaker:Like those things are important.
Speaker:Yes, we do all those things, but whether I'm journaling or whether
Speaker:I'm doing a hypnosis or if I am.
Speaker:Anchoring back into my bliss experiment, doing a gratitude exercise, all of
Speaker:those modalities, the tapping, it's not a hard and fast thing, like it
Speaker:has to be done X, Y, Z, because then we're just going through the motions
Speaker:and getting the dopamine hit from the action as opposed to actually using
Speaker:it in the way that it was designed.
Speaker:If you can train yourself like you're okay, so.
Speaker:My challenge for you.
Speaker:Uh, first off, I wanna hear if this lands, because I think I'm gonna call
Speaker:this episode, at least on the podcast, like hot Hotting, your Emotions because
Speaker:it makes so much sense when you feel it.
Speaker:It's like, I can't feel this right now.
Speaker:I don't have time.
Speaker:Let me do something with it.
Speaker:Whether it's going to take action, whether you're going to the tools,
Speaker:tools in your tool belt, tool belt for the breakdowns, I see it all the
Speaker:time with like high productivity.
Speaker:Entrepreneurs like this is what we wanna do.
Speaker:So this is like, it's our coping mechanism.
Speaker:So I wanna hear if this resonated because I know when I learned this
Speaker:concept, it was like mind blowing for me because, you know, I was
Speaker:emotional for all of these years.
Speaker:I've always been an emotional person, but I still wasn't
Speaker:letting myself feel my emotions.
Speaker:And there's a total difference.
Speaker:And you know what?
Speaker:This is crazy.
Speaker:And I like hesitate to say this a little bit because I don't want
Speaker:you to get into, uh, let me do it this way so I can get through it.
Speaker:When you just let yourself feel the emotion without all the
Speaker:other stuff, we don't add all the stuff to it, no meaning to it.
Speaker:You just feel the emotion.
Speaker:It goes away so much faster.
Speaker:Like it's done.
Speaker:You, you felt it, it dissipated, it served its purpose, and then you're done.
Speaker:All right.
