Welcome to Day 420 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom

Praise or Criticism – Wisdom Unplugged

Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week, wisdom and legacy building podcast. This is day 420 of our trek, and it is Tuesday and time for our 2-3 minute mini-trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom each Tuesday & Thursday. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.

Today’s quote is from an unknown author and says, “Adverse criticism from a wise man does more good than the enthusiastic praise of a fool.”

We all like to receive praise and compliments from others. It is a basic human desire to be accepted by others. While there is nothing wrong with the desire to be praised by others, you do need to get to the point of accepting yourself enough that your need for acceptance by others is minimized. Anytime you are praised by someone, consider their true concern for you and for your improvement. It is far better to receive constructive criticism from a wise person who has your best interest at heart than a fool who is only placating you or desires something from you. This quote may have been taken from Ecclesiastes 7:5 which says, “Better to be criticized by a wise person than to be praised by a fool.”  On the flip side of this, when you offer praise or compliments to others, what is your motive? You should always be kind, but have others best interest in mind. Be wise, praise when it is deserved, and disciple when it is needed. Be willing to accept the same from others.

Thank you for allowing me to be your guide, mentor, and most your friend as I serve you through the Wisdom-Trek podcast and journal each day.

As we take this trek of life together, let us always:
