Welcome to another episode of AgTech Digest, your go-to source for the latest in agricultural technology. And this one is a little special β this is episode one hundred. One hundred weeks of covering the people, the capital, and the ideas shaping the future of food and farming. Thank you for being here. Now β in today's episode, we're diving into the latest developments shaping the future of agriculture. We'll explore what's happening in global crop trait development and why breeding factories have replaced patents as the real competitive moat, look at two nine-figure deals closing in the same week, and cover Corteva officially naming its genetics spinoff. We'll also dig into Bayer and bp scaling camelina for sustainable aviation fuel, satellite-driven regenerative farming, PepsiCo's fertilizer decarbonization move, early-stage cattle tech funding, and vertical farming going global. There's a lot to cover, so let's get started.
Anna:Taking a look at contents of this week, it can be said that it was heavy on dealmaking. FMC and SKK Holdings each closed nine-figure transactions, Suterra bolstered its biologicals portfolio, and Bayer partnered with bp to scale camelina for sustainable fuels. Corteva gave its genetics spinoff a name β Vylor β as the Q4 separation draws closer. Even PepsiCo made a sneakily quiet but notable move into fertilizer decarbonization, and early-stage capital continued flowing into cattle tech and vertical farming. Ten stories worth your attention.
Anna:This week's analysis, covers global crop trait developments β and the central argument is that the crop trait industry has officially moved from the laboratory notebook to the factory floor. In this pivotal 20 25 to 20 26 landscape, physical breeding factories have replaced patents as the ultimate competitive moat, compressing decade-long development cycles into roughly three years. Between the high-stakes spinoff of genetics giant Vylor and a simultaneous surge of breakthrough resistance traits hitting global markets, the sector is disaggregating to unlock trapped value. Whether it's light-based non-GMO technology bypassing regulatory complexity or infrastructure-rich firms outpacing the competition, the analysis explores four interconnected trends defining the new high-velocity architecture of global agriculture β and why investors and growers can no longer afford to look the other way.
Anna:This news update begins with FMC Corporation agreeing to sell its India commercial business to Crystal Crop Protection for $252 million. The deal includes FMC India's commercial operations, a license to FMC's Indian brands, a preferred supply agreement for certain active ingredients and formulated products, and preferred access to FMC's pipeline in India for the crop protection field. Hot on the heels of that, SKK Holdings entered into a definitive asset purchase agreement to acquire substantially all of Rantizo's drone assets for $258.8 million, in exchange for newly issued Class A ordinary shares. In consulting, EY Brazil agreed to acquire MB Agro, a well-regarded agribusiness consulting boutique known for economic scenario analysis, strategic reviews, and sector intelligence across Brazil's agricultural value chain. Shifting to biologicals, Suterra acquired Vestaron's biological pest control product lines and research and development pipeline, including the Spear and Basin product lines β both recently receiving EPA approval in the United States β as well as assets from Vestaron's Kalamazoo, Michigan research facility. In a significant sustainability alliance, Bayer and bp formed a strategic partnership to scale camelina for biofuels, targeting growing demand for biodiesel, renewable diesel, and sustainable aviation fuel β a market projected to nearly triple to 40 billion gallons by twenty forty. Moving to vertical farming, vGreens closed a strategic funding round and launched its vGreens Lab globally, with investors including Frutania GmbH, one of Europe's leading fruit and vegetable traders, Durr Group, a global industrial automation company, alongside Christ Capital, VORNvc Management GmbH, and a group of angel investors. In satellite-driven agriculture, MyEasyFarm and Geocledian partnered on an ESA Climate Smart Agriculture project to scale satellite-driven regenerative farming, running through the end of 20 27, with MyEasyFarm serving as system integrator and embedding Geocledian's agricultural remote sensing data directly into its software platform. In a landmark genetics move, Corteva officially named its advanced seed and genetics spinoff Vylor, ahead of a Q4 20 26 separation. Vylor will hold more than 4,000 germplasm patents and over 2,000 biotechnology patents, with a pipeline spanning hybrid wheat, gene editing, multi-disease resistance corn, and next-generation biofuels. On the fertilizer decarbonization front, PepsiCo and TalusAg announced a low-carbon ammonia attribute agreement spanning PepsiCo's Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia Pacific, and global teams, with broader collaboration extending to the US and a proposed project in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Finally as we close our new update, Cattler raised $2 million led by Homegrown Capital, with participation from Grit Road Partners and additional AgTech investors, to scale its AI-powered cattle operations platform across the Americas. The company is co-founded and led by CEO Ignacio Albornoz and is building the system of record for the beef industry.
Anna:Looking ahead to upcoming industry events, mark your calendars for Future Fit Asia 20 26 from May twelfth to thirteenth, 20 26 in Singapore. Following that, Fiber Connect 20 26 and Precision Agriculture runs from May seventeenth to twentieth in Orlando. Then we have the Food Innovate Summit from June ninth to tenth in Amsterdam, running alongside Greentech Amsterdam from June ninth to eleventh in the Netherlands. Finally, don't miss Commercial UAV Expo from September first to third in Las Vegas.
Anna:That wraps up today's episode of AgTech Digest β and what an episode to land on number one hundred. We explored the latest developments in agricultural technology. From breeding factories redefining competitive advantage in crop traits, two nine-figure deals closing in the same week, Corteva naming Vylor as its genetics spinoff, Bayer and bp scaling camelina for sustainable aviation fuel, PepsiCo moving into fertilizer decarbonization, and Cattler building the system of record for beef β it's clear that the agtech sector is making strides in sustainability and innovation. One hundred episodes in, the industry keeps moving and so do we. Thanks for joining me, I'm Anna, signing off. Stay inspired and keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible!
