It is so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that life is all about the destination and less about the journey. The words themselves have effectively become cliches. We hear phrases like, “Enjoy the journey!” and “He’s finally arrived.” In many ways our modern society has abandoned the idea of heaven after we die and seems very committed to building one right here on earth. By this I mean that as the developed world has become increasingly impacted by secularism we have begun to live as though this life is all there is. The result is that it makes sense to try and get as much of everything as we possibly can in the short time we have. In yesterday’s message I made the point that the goal of life is to be useful, to live as fully and effectively here in this world in a way that takes your talents and abilities and deploys them to make the world a fractionally better place than you found it. Related to this is my belief that we need to focus a lot less on ‘arriving’ and more upon who we become in the process of a life well-lived. So [...]
