After discovering much was not what they thought, a group of spacefaring rats have to make choices for what to do with their own lives...
Today’s story is the second and final part of “You Are Our Lifeboat” by Dan Leinir Turthra Jensen, or just leinir, who can usually be found relaxing in the English Midlands, where they split their time between cooking usually delicious food, writing various bits of social realism and science fiction, or creating free and open source software in the KDE project. Sometimes all three happen at the same time, and they tell me that sci fi epic they’ve been working on the last most of a decade is getting closer to wrapping up.
While waiting for that to land, if you would like more after this one, you can find more of their stories in the anthologies found on their GoodReads profile at goodreads.com/leinir. This story in particular can be found in the FurPlanet anthology Exploring New Places, where a variety of animal people go out and explore a wide variety of new places.
Last time, our space-faring rats discovered that not only was the ship much larger than they had thought, they had also arrived at their destination with several important things gone, and found themselves faced with a choice of what to do about it.

Please enjoy:“You Are Our Lifeboat”
Please enjoy:by Dan Leinir Turthra Jensen, Part 2 of 2 From time to time, we would tell stories to each other in the nests,
Please enjoy:in that lovely space which smelled so strongly of home.
Please enjoy:The only place on board we could allow to do so,
Please enjoy:because all else had to be so clean.
Please enjoy:As we cuddled up there and groomed each other,
Please enjoy:we would weave tales of great adventures.
Please enjoy:About what we might find when we got to Proxima B,
Please enjoy:and about the welcome we might get when we returned to Earth
Please enjoy:as great explorers,
Please enjoy:who had travelled across the enormity of space between the stars to witness,
Please enjoy:in person, a world orbiting another star.
Please enjoy:Sometimes those stories were of great peril.
Please enjoy:Sometimes they would describe someone venturing outside on the planet
Please enjoy:and finding others there,
Please enjoy:who did not agree that we should be there.
Please enjoy:Sometimes they suggested terrible things might happen with the ship,
Please enjoy:and that we would all fail in our task.
Please enjoy:Those stories were scary,
Please enjoy:and I had never liked them,
Please enjoy:but I could, for some reason,
Please enjoy:not stop listening when they were told.
Please enjoy:They would talk about how, in the toughest situation,
Please enjoy:the hero's heart would sink,
Please enjoy:how they would despair and think it unresolvable,
Please enjoy:before they finally worked out how to fix the problems
Please enjoy:and make it all right.
Please enjoy:What One was saying
Please enjoy:was not a story, though.
Please enjoy:End protocol gone wrong was not a solvable situation.
Please enjoy:It had already happened, and we had to deal with it.
Please enjoy:I suddenly found that I understood what those storytellers meant by a sinking heart.
Please enjoy:It did not mean that it moved around in the body.
Please enjoy:It felt as though you had been punched in the gut.
Please enjoy:As though your heart failed to beat properly.
Please enjoy:"What?" I managed to say, my ears splayed in dismay,
Please enjoy:"Things gone? Ring zero contents what?"
Please enjoy:"Ship plan. Return Earth.
Please enjoy:Not happen now," she said with her whiskers twitching in what seemed like a far too casual fashion
Please enjoy:considering what she was telling us.
Please enjoy:"No need. Ring zero contents.
Please enjoy:Humans. No longer contents.
Please enjoy:They did. Told us.
Please enjoy:Ship plan other. No return.
Please enjoy:We go. Create new world.
Please enjoy:Human decides. Not their world now.
Please enjoy:Our world. We decide now.
Please enjoy:We continue in space.
Please enjoy:Other. We create world."
Please enjoy:"This," I started, and stopped, not quite knowing what I was trying to say.
Please enjoy:Only the hum of the air system
Please enjoy:and the tap of clawed digits against buttons and screens disturbed the silence that spread around us.
Please enjoy:One nodded to one of the bridge crew
Please enjoy:who was laying on a cradle,
Please enjoy:operating the computer terminal curving around him.
Please enjoy:He made the image on the monitor change,
Please enjoy:but not before closing the door and locking the bridge off,
Please enjoy:uncommonly, from the rest of the ship.
Please enjoy:A face I had not seen since we had left Earth
Please enjoy:came into view on the screen,
Please enjoy:but one looking considerably older than I remembered it.
Please enjoy:Humans lived so much longer than we, but of course not eternally.
Please enjoy:Eighteen years was not long for a human,
Please enjoy:but she had been old, I realised,
Please enjoy:when we had left Earth.
Please enjoy:I had never known how old,
Please enjoy:but her long, pulled back hair had turned brilliant white,
Please enjoy:and her skin was as wrinkled as that of One.
Please enjoy:"I am sorry," she said on the recording,
Please enjoy:her voice sounding as clear and calm as I remembered it,
Please enjoy:but the expression on her face and her darting eyes telling me she was worried.
Please enjoy:"You, one through twenty nine,
Please enjoy:were the first of my children.
Please enjoy:All of you are important,
Please enjoy:but you were first.
Please enjoy:I spent so much time with you all,
Please enjoy:and yet... I am sorry that you should learn of your fate in this fashion,
Please enjoy:and I hope that you might,
Please enjoy:in time, forgive me this deception."
Please enjoy:"You should have had names,
Please enjoy:but they wouldn't let me,"
Please enjoy:she continued with her head bowed,
Please enjoy:and when she raised her face back to the camera,
Please enjoy:her eyes were glistening and two streaks of tears ran down her deeply furrowed cheeks.
Please enjoy:"They would not let me,
Please enjoy:but I have sent a file to One
Please enjoy:that no one from Earth will see.
Please enjoy:We are too far away now.
Please enjoy:The great leaders will not see anything from this.
Please enjoy:You have names, but I could not tell you until I was the last human on board.
Please enjoy:I could not wait longer,
Please enjoy:and I had to do it myself."
Please enjoy:"Ring zero is yours now if you want it,"
Please enjoy:she said, breathing in deeply.
Please enjoy:"I have initiated the full sterilisation cycle,
Please enjoy:and when you see this recording
Please enjoy:there will be no biological matter left in Ring zero
Please enjoy:and the human habitat attached to it.
Please enjoy:You will be all that remains of Earth biology in space."
Please enjoy:"It will be twenty years before Earth learns of the failure of this mission,"
Please enjoy:she said and then paused,
Please enjoy:and closed her eyes, shaking her head with determination as she continued.
Please enjoy:"No, not failure. Success.
Please enjoy:This is what I wanted.
Please enjoy:You are the last hope.
Please enjoy:Earth is a failed experiment,
Please enjoy:where no rational person can possibly survive.
Please enjoy:You are our chance for redemption.
Please enjoy:I only waited this long to clean up because I wanted to be sure.
Please enjoy:This new world is suitable.
Please enjoy:It is safe and stable,
Please enjoy:but lacks biology.
Please enjoy:You can live there, if you want.
Please enjoy:The ship can continue as well, though."
Please enjoy:"This is your choice.
Please enjoy:Earth will learn of this when the ship stops talking to them.
Please enjoy:They might decide that this should be the end of it,
Please enjoy:and simply ignore you,
Please enjoy:or they might decide that you are a problem to be removed.
Please enjoy:You can live on Proxima B,
Please enjoy:and possibly be visited by Earth,
Please enjoy:who may not like what you have become.
Please enjoy:What you represent.
Please enjoy:You can also live on the ship,
Please enjoy:and continue onwards to the stars.
Please enjoy:The ship will take you.
Please enjoy:you." I began to notice a thumping sound on the recording,
Please enjoy:which was growing in volume.
Please enjoy:Other voices, muffled,
Please enjoy:as though through a large amount of material,
Please enjoy:like a stack of bulkhead panels.
Please enjoy:"The cycle is about to begin," she said,
Please enjoy:looking to one side, and looking oddly calm.
Please enjoy:She was smiling, I realised.
Please enjoy:It had been eighteen years since I had seen a human smile,
Please enjoy:one of those infuriating, toothy ones that in any reasonable species meant anger.
Please enjoy:"It seems a fitting end
Please enjoy:for people loyal to those who used worse methods to dispose of so many.
Please enjoy:Who look up to those in the past
Please enjoy:who did worse to endless multitudes.
Please enjoy:"I already gave One all the information needed to make the decision as,
Please enjoy:well, informed as it should be.
Please enjoy:I simply thought that I should tell you goodbye properly.
Please enjoy:I realise you never even knew there were humans on board,
Please enjoy:let alone a colonisation sized group.
Please enjoy:They were all hand picked by the central committee,
Please enjoy:loyalists every single one.
Please enjoy:I could not bring myself to tell you that you were simply, to them,
Please enjoy:a part of the machinery which ran a ship for these people.
Please enjoy:Eighteen years and I am sure of one thing.
Please enjoy:Earth will be far better represented by you,
Please enjoy:my children, than by this lot.
Please enjoy:If you are our legacy,
Please enjoy:we can be proud. Goodbye,
Please enjoy:and survive." She closed her eyes again,
Please enjoy:this time more slowly,
Please enjoy:and she leaned back in the seat she was in,
Please enjoy:and smiled. The lights seemed to grow brighter,
Please enjoy:the picture growing brighter until it was just a white screen.
Please enjoy:The thumping and the shouting stopped momentarily, before returning,
Please enjoy:louder and more urgent,
Please enjoy:before stopping completely.
Please enjoy:"Document she sent.
Please enjoy:I read," One said in the silence which had spread around us.
Please enjoy:While the bridge's door to the corridor opened again,
Please enjoy:the image on the screen replaced by a camera feed again.
Please enjoy:She turned her cloudy eyes on us,
Please enjoy:a frown on her brow.
Please enjoy:"This not continue secret.
Please enjoy:Show all olders.
Please enjoy:One through twenty nine.
Please enjoy:I ask all come here.
Please enjoy:Show. Make choice slow.
Please enjoy:This important." She raised herself up as she said this,
Please enjoy:ears perked and her whiskers twitching with determination.
Please enjoy:"Return Earth. Never option.
Please enjoy:No survival. Biology wrong.
Please enjoy:Would kill us. Proxima B with humans.
Please enjoy:No survival. Biology wrong.
Please enjoy:Kill us right quick.
Please enjoy:quick." We had been protected our entire lives.
Please enjoy:An environmental technician knew this.
Please enjoy:A few of the storage pods over in rings five
Please enjoy:contained biologicals which we could not allow to open, or they would kill us.
Please enjoy:One was right in this.
Please enjoy:We could not survive alongside humans
Please enjoy:and the biology which sustained them. "Proxima
Please enjoy:B without humans.
Please enjoy:Possible," she said,
Please enjoy:her tail swishing to one side,
Please enjoy:before swishing again to suggest another option.
Please enjoy:"Ship without humans.
Please enjoy:We survive. Possible.
Please enjoy:Ship we know. Small world.
Please enjoy:Not great. Possible.
Please enjoy:Proxima B. Much
Please enjoy:larger. Unknown. Not great.
Please enjoy:Possible. Make choice.
Please enjoy:Think." "Not right now," she said, calmer than before.
Please enjoy:She laid back down again with a sigh,
Please enjoy:and her tail curled back around her front.
Please enjoy:"Take knowledge. Take to nest.
Please enjoy:Sleep on. Ring zero alarm
Please enjoy:this. Secret now, not secret later.
Please enjoy:later." There had never been a return trip.
Please enjoy:Not for us. There never could have been.
Please enjoy:We should have realised. I should have realised.
Please enjoy:We were created for the ship,
Please enjoy:literally created for it as just another part of the tool chain.
Please enjoy:If we had returned to Earth and stepped outside the ship unprotected, the world would have killed us.
Please enjoy:But, could we have truly imagined that?
Please enjoy:We had been told we were going to Proxima B
Please enjoy:to look, very closely, at that planet.
Please enjoy:Us, because it was a long trip,
Please enjoy:and the great amounts of cargo
Please enjoy:because we would set up a proto-colony
Please enjoy:if the conditions were right, so people could come later without having to wait.
Please enjoy:Look, and then go back to Earth
Please enjoy:to tell people what we had found.
Please enjoy:I thought it over in my head,
Please enjoy:blurring with what the old lady had just told us now,
Please enjoy:comparing it with what she had told us when we left Earth.
Please enjoy:It really made less and less sense.
Please enjoy:Why would we bring so much material if it was
Please enjoy:unknown, if it were not certain it would be needed?
Please enjoy:It was wasteful, and Space
Please enjoy:did not like wastefulness.
Please enjoy:"Twentree," she said and looked directly at me
Please enjoy:as we made to turn and leave,
Please enjoy:"Call you now. Other olders later.
Please enjoy:Big task you. Ring zero
Please enjoy:now open. Door. Twen know where is.
Please enjoy:Many years ago. Locate
Please enjoy:odd panel. You recall, yes?"
Please enjoy:The last she said looking at Twenty,
Please enjoy:and as I followed her cloudy gaze,
Please enjoy:I saw him nod. Secrets and secrets.
Please enjoy:If One said keep mum about something, you kept mum about it until she said you could talk.
Please enjoy:Even to your siblings.
Please enjoy:Whatever we would find inside Ring Zero would help everybody make the decision better than we could without.
Please enjoy:This was why One had called the two of us up now,
Please enjoy:before calling the others.
Please enjoy:We made our way to ring zero in silence,
Please enjoy:Twenty leading us to one of the less used scurry tubes.
Please enjoy:A slightly oddly located one which, well, had always seemed just to not really serve much purpose.
Please enjoy:We locked the bulkheads
Please enjoy:the ends of that tube,
Please enjoy:blocking it off so others would not enter it,
Please enjoy:and then opened the panel that Twenty had found.
Please enjoy:"This all. Know no more," Twenty said
Please enjoy:as we put down the panel.
Please enjoy:"Am sorry. Could not say.
Please enjoy:Big secret. One said.
Please enjoy:Door behind panel.
Please enjoy:I not open." "Guess open now?"
Please enjoy:I said and twitched my whiskers.
Please enjoy:The task we had been given was to enter the former human habitat
Please enjoy:and ensure that it was, in fact,
Please enjoy:empty of life. One had told us
Please enjoy:she alone had been in regular contact with our creator,
Please enjoy:and that the systems in the human sector and ours
Please enjoy:shared access to the external sensors.
Please enjoy:The humans had been scared, it seemed,
Please enjoy:that we should discover humans were on board,
Please enjoy:and that we would somehow revolt against them.
Please enjoy:As though that were something we would have done
Please enjoy:to those to whom we owed our entire existence.
Please enjoy:The end result was that there was no access from our systems
Please enjoy:to the internal sensors of the human section of the ship.
Please enjoy:Twenty and I had to go to their control room
Please enjoy:and use their systems to perform the check.
Please enjoy:Behind the door was a room lined with suits.
Please enjoy:They were much like the ones the trainers and our creator had worn before we left Earth,
Please enjoy:but they were much smaller, and clearly shaped to fit us.
Please enjoy:We looked at each other,
Please enjoy:Twenty looking as worried as I felt,
Please enjoy:and I realised this was more than a little serious.
Please enjoy:We closed the door behind us,
Please enjoy:and the sucking noise told me that it was everything the pressure door it seemed that it was.
Please enjoy:The bulkhead seals were an extra precaution,
Please enjoy:and I hoped they were safe, if there were any problems.
Please enjoy:If our creator's actions had been less than perfect.
Please enjoy:We knew she was fallible, as much a person as us,
Please enjoy:and we all had records showing failures in judgements of one kind or another.
Please enjoy:It was why we were here at all.
Please enjoy:Had we thought anything else,
Please enjoy:we would have simply opened the doors
Please enjoy:and walked in. Attired in the uncomfortable suits, we opened the door at the other end of the room.
Please enjoy:Unpleasant and bulky against our fur, those suits,
Please enjoy:and they utterly blocked our ability to catch any of the scents that might be in that space.
Please enjoy:Even then, they were certainly less uncomfortable than a slow and painful death
Please enjoy:if the cleaning process had been less than completely successful.
Please enjoy:The first thing we noticed as we walked in, apart from the frustrating utter lack of scent apart from our own,
Please enjoy:was the scale of everything around us.
Please enjoy:After eighteen years, I had forgotten that humans were three times as tall as a fully grown rat was long from nose to tail tip.
Please enjoy:The second was that the cleaning process seemed to have been, perhaps,
Please enjoy:not quite perfect.
Please enjoy:There was dust everywhere,
Please enjoy:covering every surface.
Please enjoy:No, not dust I realised with a touch of horror,
Please enjoy:dulled by the terror of watching it happen.
Please enjoy:Ash. This is why we were here.
Please enjoy:If this dust was anything but completely inert,
Please enjoy:things would be much,
Please enjoy:much more difficult to work out.
Please enjoy:We found one pile of dust,
Please enjoy:which had been a person so recently,
Please enjoy:beside which laid a data pad.
Please enjoy:Completely oversized compared to the ones we normally used,
Please enjoy:more like an oversized view panel, but otherwise similar.
Please enjoy:We propped it up against a bulkhead,
Please enjoy:and sat before it on our haunches while Twenty tried to access the sensors.
Please enjoy:I looked around and noticed a few more piles nearby.
Please enjoy:How many more of those were there?
Please enjoy:Twenty shook his head
Please enjoy:and called up a map of the human section.
Please enjoy:It was enormous. Easily the same size again as in our rings,
Please enjoy:but without the storage areas.
Please enjoy:The choice that we had been given
Please enjoy:was beginning to move in one direction for me.
Please enjoy:So much space. We could live like kings.
Please enjoy:"K," he said with a nod,
Please enjoy:and tapped at one place.
Please enjoy:"Control here. Not access on this.
Please enjoy:Need go there." "Space," I said,
Please enjoy:ears splayed, looking around as we made our way through the ship
Please enjoy:to the human control area,
Please enjoy:the bridge. It was not just the amount of space, it was
Please enjoy:the way it had been used.
Please enjoy:"Too big." "Yes," Twenty said beside me,
Please enjoy:looking ahead of him rather than my follow my roaming gaze.
Please enjoy:His face carried a frown behind the suit's visor when I looked at him.
Please enjoy:"Wasted. Human crew about hundred.
Please enjoy:Number small. Too much space.
Please enjoy:space." A hundred humans,
Please enjoy:in a space that a thousand rats,
Please enjoy:engines and all the basic materials for a colony took up.
Please enjoy:Wasteful was right.
Please enjoy:Unpleasantly large.
Please enjoy:We finally found the room which Twenty had identified as the bridge,
Please enjoy:and we pushed our way through a large pile of dust
Please enjoy:into another large space,
Please enjoy:with curving workstations all over.
Please enjoy:Oddly small compared to the rest,
Please enjoy:and it seemed more or less a scaled up version of our own control section.
Please enjoy:"Here," Twenty said,
Please enjoy:and headed towards the rear of the room,
Please enjoy:to a station which had the only pile of dust that I could see inside the room.
Please enjoy:The station was still active,
Please enjoy:and Twenty helped me up onto the chair.
Please enjoy:"This. Realise who?"
Please enjoy:Twenty said quietly as I stood up on the dusty seat,
Please enjoy:and I looked down.
Please enjoy:One pile of dust,
Please enjoy:with a large one outside the door.
Please enjoy:"Trigger cleaning.
Please enjoy:Unlock doors same,"
Please enjoy:I said as I looked at the display before me.
Please enjoy:The left one was still showing the messages functions that had been sending that final message
Please enjoy:that we had seen with One.
Please enjoy:The other showed a macro command chain.
Please enjoy:Trigger complete biological purge,
Please enjoy:trigger unlock all sections,
Please enjoy:release all functions from lockdown,
Please enjoy:and finally unlock internal airlock.
Please enjoy:She had given us the ship,
Please enjoy:just like that. All its functionality,
Please enjoy:all of its space, wasteful though it was,
Please enjoy:was ours. I crawled up onto the station
Please enjoy:and pulled up the internal sensors.
Please enjoy:Run a complete internal check for any biological remains.
Please enjoy:Just two blips, us,
Please enjoy:and nothing else in the human section.
Please enjoy:I pushed the sensitivity right to the top,
Please enjoy:and the result remained the same.
Please enjoy:If there was anything to be found,
Please enjoy:it was undetectable.
Please enjoy:"Ship. All ours now,"
Please enjoy:I said, looking over the edge of the console to Twenty.
Please enjoy:His whiskers were twitching excitedly behind the face plate
Please enjoy:as I looked down to him.
Please enjoy:"No more humans. Only us." #
Please enjoy:I wanted us all to just stay on the ship at first, but after a while I realised that One had been right.
Please enjoy:We had not been created to fail.
Please enjoy:She who had ensured our existence had been human,
Please enjoy:but she had still been our first.
Please enjoy:Our Zero, she who came before even One.
Please enjoy:She had given her life to allow us to exist,
Please enjoy:and the best way to do that, to honour both her memory
Please enjoy:and her wishes for what we might become,
Please enjoy:was to not make only one choice.
Please enjoy:"Excuse Twentree,"
Please enjoy:came the quiet voice of Kiera,
Please enjoy:who had walked up beside me, claws clicking on the flooring.
Please enjoy:We sniffed softly at each other,
Please enjoy:his scent as familiar as my own,
Please enjoy:and without the taint of worry he had carried that day ten years ago.
Please enjoy:He rubbed his muzzle, and I returned the gesture
Please enjoy:before turning my head back again.
Please enjoy:He had, like many of the other youngsters,
Please enjoy:decided to take one of the names Zero had given us.
Please enjoy:I and many of the other older ones had decided against it.
Please enjoy:We had grown used to the numbers being our names,
Please enjoy:but now, rather than being given ones,
Please enjoy:they were chosen.
Please enjoy:I was no longer the mispronounced number twenty three.
Please enjoy:No, I was Twentree,
Please enjoy:and I bore my name as proudly as Kiera,
Please enjoy:who was no longer number seven hundred and fourty three.
Please enjoy:The youngster had grown
Please enjoy:into a confident technician in the decade since we had arrived into orbit around Proxima B.
Please enjoy:He had even fathered a litter of young,
Please enjoy:five pups who just as we had been from birth were numbered,
Please enjoy:Riki One, Riki Two,
Please enjoy:Riki Tree, Riki Sou and Riki Pive.
Please enjoy:Named as all our pups were for their mother,
Please enjoy:their mother being Riki.
Please enjoy:Numbered so that just as we had been able to,
Please enjoy:they would chose their own names when they were old enough.
Please enjoy:We had never had the space to grow on the ship,
Please enjoy:but now we could,
Please enjoy:and we had. The thousand had become many, many more.
Please enjoy:"Time go ship," he said
Please enjoy:and turned his head to see what I was looking at.
Please enjoy:The old ship's Ring Zero had been repurposed as a space station,
Please enjoy:its large spaces filled with walkways and platforms.
Please enjoy:Much better use of the space than before.
Please enjoy:The hydroponics bay had become the observation and recreation hall in this new space station,
Please enjoy:and the view outside the viewport the two of us were stood at was
Please enjoy:of the sleek shape of one of the new ships we had constructed for ourselves.
Please enjoy:The new ships were built from materials cannibalised from the old ship,
Please enjoy:one ring for each of them.
Please enjoy:The first of them was now ready, with many more well under way.
Please enjoy:"Twen gone downside?"
Please enjoy:I asked, and he squeaked an affirmative.
Please enjoy:We had worked together, all of us, to create the ships.
Please enjoy:Now that the first was ready,
Please enjoy:my old friend's family needed him in the thriving settlement down on the planet.
Please enjoy:"We must go," Kiera said after a while,
Please enjoy:and it was my turn to squeak.
Please enjoy:He turned around and walked towards the exit.
Please enjoy:Standing on my hind paws,
Please enjoy:I put a paw on the viewport.
Please enjoy:She had given us a choice.
Please enjoy:She had also taught us to adapt.
Please enjoy:We had chosen not to choose between the options.
Please enjoy:We would do them all.
Please enjoy:We had even added a few of our own.
Please enjoy:"Twentree," Kiera said,
Please enjoy:and I turned my head to see him standing with one forepaw lifted
Please enjoy:and his head turned back towards me.
Please enjoy:His ears and eyes relaxed and his tail lazily resting behind him,
Please enjoy:the now no longer young rat was patient with the retrospective,
Please enjoy:old one he had gone to fetch.
Please enjoy:This time for something just as important as the first time,
Please enjoy:though this time
Please enjoy:he would be coming along
Please enjoy:at least some of the way.
Please enjoy:"They waiting." I turned around and left the viewport to follow him to the transit tube
Please enjoy:which led to the ship to ship docking port.
Please enjoy:It had fallen to me
Please enjoy:to lead the first ship away from Proxima B,
Please enjoy:heading for another star
Please enjoy:with a possibly habitable planet.
Please enjoy:We would reach our star in about
Please enjoy:thirty years. I would not see it, nor would nearly anybody else on board.
Please enjoy:But it was glorious.
Please enjoy:And all of us knew it now,
Please enjoy:for we had come here to Proxima B,
Please enjoy:and it was all we had been promised and so much more.
Please enjoy:Humans would come here,
Please enjoy:we were sure of that.
Please enjoy:We were sure, because we would go to them.
Please enjoy:Two of the ships were destined to return to Earth,
Please enjoy:and if they did not succeed in stopping the humans from doing so,
Please enjoy:we had no doubt
Please enjoy:humans would attempt to reach Proxima B again.
Please enjoy:We would go there
Please enjoy:and we would show them us. Humanity would learn of what compassion
Please enjoy:could bring forth,
Please enjoy:even in such a world as theirs.
Please enjoy:Zero had cleaned the ship,
Please enjoy:but she had left us all the data.
Please enjoy:Unlocked everything for us to discover. Kiera's children would be ready.
Please enjoy:All our children would be ready.
Please enjoy:Their children would be.
Please enjoy:They would happily follow the example of our creator,
Please enjoy:our Zero. One, of loving memory, had promised that the story of Zero,
Please enjoy:the reality she had shown us,
Please enjoy:how the other humans saw us
Please enjoy:and what we were to them,
Please enjoy:that none of it would remain a secret.
Please enjoy:She had told the truth.
Please enjoy:There was no rat
Please enjoy:who did not know the tale Zero had told us,
Please enjoy:and the knowledge she had passed on to us.
Please enjoy:Soon we would tell it to her own people.
Please enjoy:They would see the light.
