Speaker:With that said, let's get started with 10 minutes of tennis.
Speaker:Today is 10 minutes of tennis with World Renowned Tennis Coach Australian and Puerto Rico.
Speaker:I think he's in Texas right now, but we won't tell anybody pointing at the picture of
Speaker:Clay Courts because yesterday we are going to talk about the quarter finals of the French
Speaker:Open and what is it, 2025.
Speaker:And we got a couple of surprises.
Speaker:One on the men's side, one on the women's side, Bubliq kind of showing up unexpectedly.
Speaker:And then on the women's side, there's somebody, I think she's 350 in the world or something
Speaker:that has decided to make the quarter finals.
Speaker:So we want to talk about that and we want to tie it into our overall theme right now of
Speaker:the future of tennis.
Speaker:What does this mean for the future of tennis?
Speaker:So Justin, let's just start talking about the quarter finals.
Speaker:You want to start men or women?
Speaker:You choose men.
Speaker:Okay, let's start women because I know less about that.
Speaker:So I can just ask questions as though I don't know what I'm talking about because you know,
Speaker:don't.
Speaker:As of recording, Savillenko's already won and Sviantec is on court.
Speaker:So those are kind of expected.
Speaker:That's 1 in 8, 5 and 13.
Speaker:Those are decent expected matches.
Speaker:Savillenko being what, late 20s, Sviantec mid 20s, Spitalin as the oldest in the draw, does that
Speaker:say anything?
Speaker:No, I mean, I think the draw, I'm sorry, in the quarters.
Speaker:The quarters look fantastic.
Speaker:I mean, it's going to be strong tennis on the clay.
Speaker:There's quite a few players here that I would say very strong, a hard court, you know, fast
Speaker:court players more than clay.
Speaker:So pretty surprised that all the way deep into the quarter finals on the clay, which is
Speaker:good to see, especially Madison Keys.
Speaker:I mean, go Madison.
Speaker:Let's go.
Speaker:I want to know.
Speaker:Madison is going to have a tough one against Goff though.
Speaker:Goff is definitely a grinder and she'll do well.
Speaker:My pick is Goff to win the tournament.
Speaker:If she stays fit, she's tough enough.
Speaker:She's got just enough experience and she's definitely got the grinding game on a clay court
Speaker:to not let go.
Speaker:And even if Savillenko gets there, Goff has had a win over her.
Speaker:So my big one is Goff if she stays well and stays healthy.
Speaker:That's my cool on that side.
Speaker:So aside from Ega being near unbeatable on clay and Savillenko being a six foot tall, a big
Speaker:hitter, you don't think Goff's scared of them?
Speaker:No.
Speaker:And on the plate, she's just got the right game.
Speaker:She can vary it.
Speaker:She can keep the ball alive.
Speaker:She can count a punch.
Speaker:She can attack.
Speaker:She's just got to put it all together.
Speaker:But she's done that before.
Speaker:I mean, she's done it at the Australian Open and that wasn't on clay.
Speaker:That was on her court.
Speaker:So I think on the clay, I think she'll do very well.
Speaker:I think she's just looking at the field.
Speaker:She'll do good.
Speaker:And even looking at the field, we want to talk first year tennis.
Speaker:You got half the field young in the 20s and then you got another half of the field,
Speaker:a couple of 30-year-old 27, 30, 30.
Speaker:I mean, what a mix of field.
Speaker:Future tennis is interesting because we used to see many years ago, early teens to late teens
Speaker:that we would see young tennis players that were making quarter finals of the French.
Speaker:We're not seeing that.
Speaker:Young now is early 20s and old is not old anymore.
Speaker:We're seeing a couple of 30-year-old here peaking in their career in quarter finals.
Speaker:I mean, it's for the Lena and keys are playing great tennis for their age.
Speaker:And usually back in the days, that was at retirement stage.
Speaker:So yeah, future tennis, you know, we're going to see, I think we're going to see players mature
Speaker:later and we shouldn't rush the player development.
Speaker:I think I've had this conversation a lot in the past where we push players too soon.
Speaker:Too quick.
Speaker:They get, they feel the pressure and they're not emotionally driven or physically they're
Speaker:not built for it yet.
Speaker:And that's when you get shoulders and hip problems or inefficiency and stroke.
Speaker:There's so many things that they could learn now and not rush.
Speaker:So anyway, that's something I see on the women's side.
Speaker:And on the men's side, we see the same thing.
Speaker:You know, on the men's side, again, mix of ages.
Speaker:So and that one's going to be an interesting one.
Speaker:But my theory on that one is Carlos.
Speaker:Carlos is going to win it clean.
Speaker:And I think clean because he's serving so well.
Speaker:Whatever I've looked at to serve, they've really got it right.
Speaker:And I'm sure there's more to come because it looks like it could probably get a little
Speaker:higher with his reach, ball toss.
Speaker:But man, if they really got something happening on his serve and he's delivering it when
Speaker:he needs it as well, even when he's down break points.
Speaker:So that was sort of one of, I thought one of his weaknesses.
Speaker:And now I'd like to see them try to get a bit more whip like Shelton does on the second.
Speaker:That would be something wild.
Speaker:But anyway, that's my pick on that side because it's best of five as well.
Speaker:I just don't see anyone out doing that guy.
Speaker:Yeah, I can understand.
Speaker:And I picked Alcaraz as well.
Speaker:Our son Giovanni picked sinner.
Speaker:As he likes to do.
Speaker:But in this case, that would be one versus two in the final assuming Zverev and Jokovic.
Speaker:I mean, that's the only one in this quarter final that I struggled to pick.
Speaker:I actually still picked Jokovic.
Speaker:I love seeing the American men in the quarter finals of the French open again.
Speaker:I don't see Tiafo or Alcaraz getting past Mooselli.
Speaker:I'm not confident in that.
Speaker:Thankfully, I'm not a betting man.
Speaker:So I don't have to worry about it.
Speaker:It's just kind of fun to make the picks and say, "Hey, here's our thoughts for this one
Speaker:and we can argue about it later."
Speaker:Yeah, well, the interesting one for both those quarters though.
Speaker:Paul's going to give Alcaraz a really good fight.
Speaker:So that's going to be great.
Speaker:I'll beat him before.
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:He's not a great, really good battle.
Speaker:Just a five, it'll be a really good battle.
Speaker:Paul won't let go.
Speaker:Hopefully, Paul's learned just from the recent tournament, the last one that he played against
Speaker:Alcaraz and lost.
Speaker:I hope that Paul says, "Okay, what I've got to do is step up into that baseline and just
Speaker:keep pounding because he was on top of him and then he'd let go and move too far back."
Speaker:Can't defend.
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:So I really hope he really just keeps swinging and plays the way he's been playing and just
Speaker:keeps getting stronger.
Speaker:But now, if I'm a parent or a player, if I'm a parent and I'm looking at a kid, like I look
Speaker:at my two and a half year old and I say, "Okay, I can't wait to get him playing and what does
Speaker:this mean for his pathway?"
Speaker:And there's so many different ways to do it.
Speaker:You can go the Alcaraz way.
Speaker:He had an agent and he found Ferreiro at 14 years old and professional tennis was the goal.
Speaker:His father was a coach, his grandfather built tennis facilities.
Speaker:So it was always there.
Speaker:At some point still in his early teenage years.
Speaker:But then you've got the Ben Shelton's of the world and you've got the, I think you mentioned
Speaker:Cam Noori in a different conversation.
Speaker:But guys coming through college and developing later and being okay with that and hitting
Speaker:tour at 21, Ben Shelton comes on tour at 20, I think he was, where Felix O'Sheraliah
Speaker:seems plays his first professional tournament at 14.
Speaker:So we've got more of a range now, do you think than we used to?
Speaker:Yeah, we've got quite a few range.
Speaker:But when we look at the numbers, like the highest percentage of numbers, college is falling
Speaker:right into the window to help players catapult to pro.
Speaker:And even if they didn't do two years of college and just all of a sudden maturity and playing
Speaker:well and winning matches, they jump out of college and straight into pro.
Speaker:That can happen.
Speaker:But we're seeing players learn mature, grow physically, emotionally, all the right things
Speaker:that we're seeing, all those things happening now.
Speaker:Whether it's a later stage, it's not an early stage.
Speaker:And we don't want to rush that.
Speaker:I mean, there are players that will excel through.
Speaker:We say they're the one percentest, right?
Speaker:I mean, Alcarez was young when he came in.
Speaker:But we're not going to see a lot of that anymore.
Speaker:What we're starting to see is the more mature players are coming in later.
Speaker:And you only have to look at this poll.
Speaker:There's multiple players is very, very, very, they're all starting to peak, but they're in
Speaker:their late 20s.
Speaker:The other ones are going to learn.
Speaker:They're going to go in and out, in and out.
Speaker:But I mean, one of the cool things here is we're looking at two Americans in the quarter
Speaker:finals of the French mate.
Speaker:I mean, seriously.
Speaker:That's massive news as far as I'm concerned.
Speaker:Because they're known as hardcore players, both of those guys, especially Tiafah.
Speaker:So they're going to put on a show, which is going to be awesome for quarter finals.
Speaker:I'm happy that the Americans are there because that's good for your little boy.
Speaker:We have to remind ourselves that idols are usually idols from each culture or each country.
Speaker:Even though, you know, a lot of people idolize Federer and Nadal and Jokovych.
Speaker:But they did that because they were the three kings, right?
Speaker:I mean, now we're the big spread of people going in and out of the top 10.
Speaker:I think we're going to see a lot more people following countrymen.
Speaker:That's going to be really cool, especially in the American side, but it's been, you know,
Speaker:sort of distant for quite some time on the American men's side.
Speaker:So, I think it's also my last point here would be for the social player.
Speaker:And usually watching, you know, 19 to 28-year-olds, you know, battling it out as superheroes,
Speaker:just gets this excited and we want to go play.
Speaker:But it's a reminder that we're all younger than we used to be.
Speaker:And I say that because when we say, you know, 40 is the new 30 and 50 is the new 40.
Speaker:We're healthier.
Speaker:We're younger as a species.
Speaker:We're able to do more as we get older.
Speaker:So I think that should encourage the social player to say, you know what, I can go out
Speaker:and still play.
Speaker:I don't have to age out.
Speaker:I don't have to switch to pickleball just because I don't think I can handle it.
Speaker:But I don't have to say, well, tennis is a young man's sport anymore.
Speaker:I can still play.
Speaker:I can do this.
Speaker:If no one can do it, so can I.
Speaker:Yeah, I think there's a lot of things I can help with that.
Speaker:If everyone wants to learn that in other talks where I can actually help you understand
Speaker:biomechanics, you know, things you need to change when you get older and you do that and you
Speaker:can enjoy the sport just as well as you did in your 20s.
Speaker:But what I will finish with our last whatever minutes we've got left is just go USA.
Speaker:I mean, you've got four American players and quarterfinals at the French Open.
Speaker:That's amazing.
Speaker:Like that just, you know, if there's one country that's standing out, this is it.
Speaker:So let's put it out.
Speaker:Let's highlight them go USA.
Speaker:It's good to see the strong, strong dominance, which is great for your little kid.
Speaker:And I'm sorry for you pickleball guys out there, but tennis still dominates, baby.
Speaker:Let's go.
Speaker:And the tennis is still king.
Speaker:Yeah, it's the more we keep getting players like this in the quarterfinals or four of them,
Speaker:the more we're going to dominate out of this bloody pickleball.
Speaker:So I can say, I agree.
Speaker:Justin, I appreciate it.
Speaker:Thank you very much.
Speaker:This has been 10 minutes of tennis with Justin.
